Chapter 1

Part 1

'What a creepy smile!'

Evans Miller concluded as he watched a girl trying to commit suicide by jumping from the roof of an apartment building.

His blue uniform was all that stood out in a crowd of high school students, who were wearing black uniforms. His brown eyes, with bags under them, and his evil smile, made everyone around him avoid approaching him for more than a meter.

It was a cloudy day, and the temperature was less than 5°C (41°F). But everyone seemed to have forgotten about that as they stood watching the scene in front of them as if it were a movie.

But that didn't matter at that moment as he was thinking a way to use this situation in his favor. After thinking it for a while, he came to the only solution to this situation.

There was a great crowd, watching with curiosity the tragedy that was about to happen. It was a problem, but he couldn't get rid of them as the police would be a pain to deal with later. So he concluded that the best course of action would be to take the girl and escape.

In a blink of an eye, he disappeared from the crowd, leaving the surrounding people shocked, and appeared in front of the girl. She looked with a confused expression at his face before the place where she was sitting changed into the edge of the roof of a school.

-What...... -The girl said, but she stopped the moment she noticed her surroundings being different.

She tried to speak again, but she couldn't muster the strength to do it.

Upon seeing this, Evans' grin grew even more, he was pretty impressed by her reaction. What made her frightened to the extent where her skin looked paler and her smile turned into a scowl.

She was still in a position where she could jump off the roof at any time she wished to do so. And, she would do it if she wouldn't have seen the expression of the man in front of her was wearing. His face showed concern for her, for her safety and her feelings.

-I can give you whatever you wish. -Evans said as he offered his hand to her and looked to the edge of the roof. -Or you can die if you don't desire to be my companion.

The sound of a helicopter engine getting near the roof only made Evans' words more dramatic.

The girl stared at his face as the man in front of her flushed after saying such a proposition.

A feeling she had never felt warmed her chest as she took the hand that the man was offering to her. The girl, called April, smiled like an angel as Evans helped her get away from the edge of the roof. Then, she hugged him, buried her face in his chest and cried. Evans continued to hug and stroke her head until she fell asleep with a smile on her face.

To be honest, Evans had little understanding of the situation before him or how it ended in such a mess. But he understood why the girl was in the middle of this mess since a situation like this wasn't something new to him after all.

Evans looked at her face relieved while his hands were shaking.

She had brown hair and a slender face, a refined nose and thick lips; her skin was as white as the milk and her irises were brown. These qualities would make her a beauty if it weren't by the bags under her eyes that gave her an unhealthy look.

When Evans first met her, he wondered why such a beauty wouldn't take proper care of it.

But after of observing her for a while, he learned that she was a loner. She had no one who cared about her, so she didn't care about herself.

She wasn't a simple loner like him, she was the greatest loner in the city. Everyone in her school tried to avoid getting near her for some reason. When she was around them, they would make a path for her or would avoid sitting next to her in class.

At the same time, she was well known in every corner of the city because of her rich father, who was a well-known murderer.

Even in her high school filled with geniuses, she stood out more than the irregular students because of her family's past. This caused her to stay away from her classmates who she hated with all her heart.

-Just like I thought, she has to be my girlfriend.

That was what Evans thought after Investigating her background. Using his connections to gather information about her had taken a lot of his money, but it was wroth for him to understand her.

The only problem was that Evans didn't know what to do after that point. For some reason, he couldn't muster enough courage to declare his love. Whenever he tried to think of such scene in his mind, his arms and legs began to shake.

He even came to question whether he would be rejected after all the trouble he had passed through. Still, he decided to go since he had nothing to lose anyway.

In the city of Halette, it was said that every woman would reject Evans regardless of the situation. As he was a madman who would do dirty things to them.

Yet, he was resolved to confess his feelings to her, even if he were to be rejected.

But fate seemed to have something else in mind as he didn't expect to come across April in such predicament.

Facing such development, Evans concealed his confusion and tried to convince her not to do so. The situation was tricky enough and it would be better to avoid more problems. Thus, he would use his power to save her if it was necessary. But he was fortunate that it didn't get that far.

Even so, there wasn't even a bit of hesitation in his face as he knew that he didn't have time to feel relieved.

'Isn't it a happy ending, boy' A voice echoed in his mind.

'Shut up, you damn maniac' Responded Evans to the voice.

Part 2 (One week ago)

In the world there are all kinds of liars.

But if you were to ask who the best of them all is, Evans Miller would say he didn't know since he is a liar as well.

He looked like he was smiling all the time and his eyes were up in the sky as if he wasn't interested in what's going around him. Everyone who met him would hate him if it weren't for his hooked nose.

He had a rather normal face that wouldn't attract much attention. But his appearance was a different question; he had white skin, a height of 1.95 m (6ft 4), a lean and strong body, and wavy brown. All this made him look strange for the others, and they preferred to avoid him.

His childhood was hard as he struggled to survive each day of his short life. The best way to describe it would be "hell".

When he was five, he would watch the children, in the streets where he lived, dying from starvation and disease every day. It was at this time when his parents died due to an unknown disease that had spread through the city. The poor Evans didn't have any relatives left and ended up living in the same streets as the kids he had been observing all the time.

As a year passed by, he had learned all the skills necessaries for surviving on his own. He would deceive people to feed him using nasty tricks or he would steal the food if it was necessary. Although this didn't go unnoticed for too long as an officer of the Empire noticed him in the streets one day. But to Evans’ surprise, the officer was so surprised with him that he decided to take him to the academy of the Empire. There he would live together with the other young talents until the Empire decided to take them into its army as soldiers.

During his tenth year at the academy, Evans had to make a difficult decision for a 15 year boy. He had to choose between acquiring an ability through a contract with a Rask, a demon, or undergoing a painful operation to make him a proper soldier. He chose the first and riskier of the two as it had less than 10% chance of surviving. But to the surprise of everyone, he survived and made a contract with one powerful Rask.

The probability was so low that no one had decided to make a contract with a Rask in more than three years!

The teachers were so pleased with his success that they gave him an award for his courage.

But the truth was different, he was so scared of undergoing the operation that he decided to take the risk with the contract.

It was by mere luck that he survived!

And what made the things more complicated for him was that his ability was too good and everyone wanted to defeat him.

In the end, he ended being one of the top students in the academy, with only a few individuals who could defeat him!

However, something that no one knew, apart from his best friend, was that the demon inside him was a maniac. This Maniac was waiting for him to lower his guard to take over his body at any moment.

But that wasn't much of a problem for Evans as he had learned to never leave his guard down in the hard way. With his friend almost being fucked by a crazy guy and an arm stuck in the aggressor's guts.

One morning, they decided to take a shortcut because they were late for school. But they went through an alley where a drunk man attacked them and tried to rape Evans’ friend.

In the middle of this predicament, the maniac tried to control Evans’ body. When he was about to touch his Evans’ friend, the maniac used Evans’ hand to pierced the aggressor stomach.

After that, the only thing that Evans could remember was the image of his shaking friend and the pool of blood on the ground. When the police arrived, they made sure to hide this incident from the population. It would be bad seen if a rapist was found in the most secure city of the world.

Mysteriously, a video about a dead body appeared in the news the next day and the police opened an investigation about the incident. Then, Evans had to live in jail for a week and after he came out of it, absolved of all the charges, all the women in the city started to avoid him with expressions of disgust.

The police never leaked any information on the case and no one knew that it was Evans who killed the aggressor. But everyone thought that he was a criminal too after seeing him in jail.

He was put in the same boat as the rapist just because he was near the scene of the crime!

And today wasn't different as he was receiving weird stares from the people in the academy. He even forgot to look up at the sky due to them.

-It's annoying when the people pay too much attention to your presence.

He was looking for his friend Marco, who was two years younger than him and was in the third year of the third level of the academy.

He was currently in the building of the third level where some students were practicing with psychic abilities. Nothing really interesting to him as it was quite boring seeing them struggle to move a coin or create some fire.

The Academy was the only school in the world where you could acquire abilities or learn the art of the energy transmutation without the Empire killing you on the spot. It was divided in Four buildings where students from level one to four would attend according to their age. Each level was divided into four years, according to the age too.

Evans had been living in the dorms of the academy since he was six. Now he was on the first year of the level four and he was 19.

However, after the incident with the rapist happened, the only friend he had was Marco. Even after so many years in the school, no one knew how to deal with his always smiling face!

He could feel the stares in his back as he continued to look for his friend. It was annoying to him as he was quite sensitive to them, but he couldn't fight with every guy who stared at him. At least inside the school's grounds, once he was out, it was a different story.

'Shit, these damn brats are as annoying as always, I wish I were allowed to kick their asses inside the school's ground.'

Under his carefree expression, a demon was waiting for his opportunity!

He continued on his way while thinking different ways to scare kids without being caught by the Imperials guards.

But he had to stop in one corridor as he saw a figure obstructing his path.

There stood a girl looking up at the sky, wearing a mesmerized expression while leaning on the pillar.

Her brown hair contrasted with the blue sky behind it as it seemed as if all the sunlight was falling over her.

'She is beautiful.'

Evans wanted to continue watching her, but he wasn't as stupid as to stand there watching her, so he tried to continue his way. He normally would observe her from afar, but today he had something else in mind. Moreover, he didn't want the people to consider him as a pervert more than he already was.

So he continued on his way towards Marco’s tree as he liked to call the tree under which Marcos always was eating in the lunch break.

After walking through crowds of students in the hallways, he reached the place where a worried Marcos and other men were. It was easy to understand that they were talking about something important thanks to Marco’s expression.

Marco was a carefree guy, so it was easy to read his expressions when he was scared or nervous. So Evans knew how scared he was upon seeing him in front of the men. The Men on the other hand, wore with indifferent faces as they looked at Marco.

Yet, their faces turned pale upon seeing Evans arrival while Marco face brightened. It was obvious who was the one with more influence with this single action.

-Piss off!

Evans didn’t want to see these guys faces as they only brought bad news every time they came to see them. Messing with the Imperial guards was a bad thing, but dealing with them was even worse.

The men immediately ran away from that place with terrified faces while cursing under their breath.

‘Well done, boy. At least you showed some guts.’

Evans ignored the maniac remark and advanced towards his friend.

-It was about joining the mercenary army again, Marco?

-Yes.... This time, I’ve decided to join them. But it was awkward to look at their eyes so....

-I understand, Marco. You can do whatever you want, but I won’t be there to save your ass as I’ve got better things to do than risking my life in the battlefield.

Joining the mercenary army was a dream that Marco had had since he had been saved from his Master “Jack.” But it wasn’t allowed to join it until the age of 17 when a member of the society was considered an adult in the eyes of the Empire’s laws.

-Of course I know that… I just wanted to ask you to look after Sarah while I’m away.

Even so, Marco has already made his resolution and he wouldn’t be regretting it any time soon. That was the kind of man he was, his dreams were his top priorities.

Even if he had to leave his pregnant girlfriend alone for one month or two every six months.

-You don’t need to ask that, you’re like my brother.

-Thanks man.

Part 3

In the end, Evans couldn’t refuse his friend’s request and had bid farewell to him after a long talk about fidelity. Like an old fashioned grampa!

‘You damn virgin and your damn moral! If he wants to have some fun, you should allow him have it without remorse!’

Even the maniac thought it was a stupid talk when his friend could die at any moment on a battlefield!

Evans couldn’t help but remembered this as he continued walking to his home.

It was past midnight and the rain was only making it harder for Evans to carry the unconscious April on his back. With each step he did, he would feel a burning sensation in his legs. But he continued walking, his apartment wasn’t far from where he was.

His body was getting weak and his legs were shaking, but he continued despite this. This pain wasn’t something that would stop him and less when he was two houses from his apartment. So he dragged his legs until he reached the main door.

He opened the door with his shaking hands and pushed it with his shoulder. From there to his apartment, he would have to climb the stairs to the second floor.

‘Fucking hell! Who designed this place without an elevator?’

Indeed, it was weird that a building apartment without elevator existed in Halette city. But it wasn’t strange if you considered that the building was three stories tall!

After ten minutes of painful climbing, he reached his apartment and opened his door. He pushed his door and went into his home. His apartment consisted of a living room, a kitchen, two bedrooms, and a bathroom.

Then, Evans turned on the lights and took off April’s clothes. He left April in underwear on his bed and went to take a shower. He had to restrain his dirty mind while taking a look at April’s slender body. If everything went according to his plan, he should be able to do such things with a willing April. So he went to take a shower to calm his excitement.

When Evans went out of the bathroom, he was more calm. After bathing, his body felt light and his mind was more relaxed. From his window a group of children playing in the middle of the rain could be seen. After seeing Evans standing next to the window, the children waved his hands at him.

With a smile in his face, Evans went to the kitchen to prepare the dinner. But just when he was about to take the meat out of the fridge, his phone rang. The name “Jack” was displayed on the screen of his phone. It was a man who had seen his talent and had brought him to the empire academy!

This man who was always smiling and scheming behind everyone’s backs. Evans couldn’t help but frown after seeing this number. Jack calling him could only mean one thing, bad news.

-Jack…. What it’s this time? -Evans was annoyed due to this call in his perfect day.

-Brat, at least you should say hello to your Master. -Jack answered with an unconcerned voice.

-Yeah.

-Anyway, I was watching the news when I noticed that you had kidnapped that girl you had been stalking the last days. So this time you decided to do it, right? A sex slave is good sometimes!

Tsk! Evans can’t endure Jack’s jokes! -I saved her life and asked her to come with me. You damn old perverted!

-Oh! Really? Did she choose to die after seeing your ugly face like the last four? Or Did she decide to survive?

The last four girls had been girls who Evans had saved in the past, but they had left him after one or two days. Evans didn’t have a special attachment to them, so he didn’t care about it at that time. But as a man, his pride was hurt every time someone reminded him about this!

Since then, Jack had taken every opportunity to mock him. What caused Evans to become even more sensitive about this situation.

-This and that are different! And she accepted my proposition! -Evans face turned red as he shouted at his phone.

-Hoy, hoy! Don't shout like that. I was just joking, everyone knew that this time she would be the correct. It was the first time that you had been smiling so much after all.

Indeed, Ever since Evans fell in love with April, his smile seemed more honest. Everyone mocked him because of this. His friend Marco even said that he had a stupid face lately. But what no one knew is that Evans used this authentic aura around him to deceive even more people than the normal!

Cough! -Anyway -Jack’s voice seemed to tense more, what made Evans tense too. -I decided to call today because of another matter.

-It’s another casualty, right?

-Yes, I have to report you some unfortunate news. Luis is dead, he was found dead in his house this morning by some of our men. It seems to be a suicide, but there's not enough evidence to prove it. And, our detectives said it was too perfect to be a suicide, so we are going to investigate this incident for some time.

-I see. -Evans voice was full of grief. He could count his friend with only a hand and Luis was one of them. Of the ten children that were brought to the academy by Jack, there were only 6 were alive now. Four had died after joining to the ranks of the mercenary army managed by Jack. From this group of ten, only five were like brothers to Evans, and excluding Marco and John, who were in the mercenary army, three were dead.

Now Luis had died, from the group of six brothers, half had died!

-Another of them died in your stupid mercenary army! -Evans was filled with anger, shouting at his phone while the tears flowed in his cheeks.

-Tell me, you do know what being a mercenary means in the empire? It means that you would survive no matter what in the battlefield with several methods at your disposal, someone who would do whatever you ask them to do for a pay in exchange. That’s why a lot of people trying to eliminate the….

Evans couldn’t endure to hear Jack’s excuses anymore, so he threw it as far as he could as the tears flowed through his face. -Fuck you world! This is the last time that I will allow you to take someone away from me.

Wrath, it was the only thing that was flowing through his body.

All his wrath would destroy the world, that's what he decided the day he made the contract with the Raskad. He had forgotten because of his peaceful life, but in the last four months he had lost three brothers. How could he stand there without doing anything?

'It seems that we will need to use your powers this time too.' -Evans wasn’t gifted with a strong body, he wasn’t a genius that could do everything by himself either. But the Rakad who he made the contract was different. It had the power, but it came with a cost.

'I don't mind borrowing it, the more you use my power, the more our souls will merge...'

'Yeah, yeah. I know. My soul is smaller than yours, so you will take the control of my body and my ability will be yours when it happens. I don't care as it would take more than sixty years for you to take over my body, and even if I were to use your abilities daily'

That's right, the being within Evans had suddenly appeared one day, claiming that he wanted his ability, and in exchange he would lend him his abilities, mind control y precognition.

Normally, when a person made a contract with a Raskad, the energy from the rask plain would enter the contractor's body and grant him an ability. But this ability came with many restrictions and wasn’t as useful as Evans’.

Evans couldn’t help but remember the day he made his contract with the raskad and his question.

'But why would you want my ability when you have those two awesome abilities.'

'Are you kidding? teleportation is one of the three abilities I've always dreamed to have, once I have it, my dreams would be possible. No one would be able to stand in my way. HAHAHAH'.

Evans couldn’t understand it even now, but it didn’t matter. His lifespan will be shortened? Who cares if he can live a good life thanks to it!
