Chapter 2- Goblins and Imps Oh My

Chapter 2- Goblins and Imps Oh My

With a groan and a wince he reluctantly sat up and realized what had woken him up. Screams ripped through the air and the smell of blood was thick in the air. With a jolt he shot towards where he’d left the survivors of the wreck but new he was already too late. Little green creatures that stood maybe three feet tall had swarmed the camp and were killing the men while dragging the women away. Quickly grabbing a piece of pipe about four feet long off the ground he started screaming at them. “Hey over hear you smelly little fucktards, I’m gonna kill fucking one of you ya moving pieces of shit.”

He got their attention as nearly all but one or two screeched and started running his way. With a bloodthirsty grin he starting using the pipe like a staff and smashed straight through them. Before they could even process what was happening he was ripping through them without even slowing and with ten seconds they all had caved in skulls and were scattered around him.

Throwing it like a spear he nailed another one into the dirt threw it’s back. The other one was still trying to drag an unconscious women away. It looked up with surprised right as as he reached it and broke its neck. Finally with a second to breath he searched around and only found two survivors. They were the first two he carried out of the plane.

Taking them a little away from the bodies he laid them down and set up a small campfire. With a jolt he realized why he felt so off beyond the whole ‘world just ended’ feeling. I’m thinking of everything in third person again. Dammit i do this every time i’m about to panic. Ok, first find a seat. Lighting a fire with his lighter he sat down and took deep breaths. Second, find my center, then calm my state of mind till the panic is gone. Doing just that the day faded into night and he ended the meditation.

First i have to find out what the rules and limitations of this new world are. It obviously doesn’t abide by all the same rules so let’s find out where the boundaries lie. So let's start with what new things i can do now. Status Page.

Goblins

One of the lowest forms of sentient life they have little intelligence to speak of but what they lack in intelligence they make up for in numbers.

Imps

The lowest and weakest of the demonic hierarchy. With an inborn affinity for fire magic and a penchant for craftiness and mischief these troublemakers are cowardly and although deadly in numbers it takes a massive force of will to completely control them.

Well that's helpful. Just focus on it and an explanation pops up.

Soul Density

Measures the quality of one’s soul. Some creatures will only willingly submit to a soul that underwent countless soul shaking experiences and this is a accurate representation of that factor.

Soul Mass

Measures the quantity of one’s soul. This is a numerical value of how much energy your soul has to cast larger and more complex spells without injury to your body or life force.

Well i don’t understand how it managed to measure something like that but hell, i’m not complaining, but how do i summon? Almost as soon as he thought that he felt a pull and a three foot tall doorway that looked like solid pitch formed off to his left and out walked one of those little green things from earlier. It only took one look and his gut told him he could control it without issue. Uh, why is it looking at me like a freaking zealot? The description didn’t say- Oh, this must be what Soul Density does.

This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.

With a better idea of what was going on he felt more at ease. “Go get firewood.” Even in the dark he felt like he could almost see a dust trail behind the thing as it took off. Well this could come in very handy. With another thought a second doorway appeared and what looked like a bright red humanoid lizard with devil horns and about a foot and a half tall walked through with a similar look on it’s face like it was looking at a god made flesh.

Ok, i remember something about being able to strengthen my summons cause my density was so high. At the thought another blue box popped up.

Do you wish to spend 5,000 soul points to permanently upgrade your minion, It will be forever bound to your service until such time as you dismiss it if you do so?

Variant evolution’s available

* Infernal imp

* Devil imp

* Screamer imp

* Pit fiend

* Evolution Egg

Huh i can’t get any more info by focusing on the the boxes. My guts telling me to go for the egg. So after confirming he just barely caught himself as all the strength seemed to rush out of him at once. The imp started shuddering and shaking as it curled into a ball and a shell seemed to grow out of its skin and encase it. Within seconds what looked like a shining red egg with blue veins running across it was floating in the air.

He couldn’t even react as it suddenly shot into his chest and disappeared. In his mind's eye he could now see an egg floating in what what he guessed was his soul space. Well i don’t feel any different and it doesn’t seem to be doing anything so I’ll just leave it for now. Just then the goblin came back with it’s spindly arms full of broken boxes and boards from somewhere. “Good job, stand guard and wake me if anything gets to close to us.”

With that done he reclined and promptly passed out until the sun woke him up the next morning. He dreamed of himself walking down a country lane with an impossible number of side streets that seemed to disappear off into the distance. He looked behind him and as far as the eye could see, demons, dragons, giants, orcs, minotaurs, and more fairy tale creatures than he could name were following him like an endless army. And he felt his connection to all of them, he didn’t feel alone anymore.

Suddenly it all clicked together, even in the middle of of a crowd he had felt utterly alone since the day his parents died. No matter what he did after that it didn’t seem to make a difference. He yawned as he sat up then went to check on the girls. Their breathing was deep and even, the head wounds were closing nicely and they were losing blood anymore. Satisfied he trickled some water into each of their mouths and thought deeply about everything he had learned yesterday.

Summoning another four imps he sent them on a scouting patrol and saw a blinking icon in the corner of his vision. He opened up his status screen and was bombarded with messages once again.

What are merits? Hmm something's fishy but seeing how sudden this shit was the begining will most likely have the highest casualty count, and if i don’t want to join them I will need to do everything i possibly can to get stronger. The system said it already, might makes right in this world and if fantasy continues its current trend then humans are practically on the very bottom of the evolutionary ladder. Centuries being coddled in our societies have led to a decline in overall strength which is now made even more obvious with the loss of technology.

With a deep breath he focused on yes and in his eyes the world suddenly went black and a new box appeared.

Please choose your difficulty(Difficulty scales to final rewards).

* Easy- 1-2 exchange (Guaranteed Survival)

* Normal- 1-6 exchange (75% survival rate)

* Hard- 1-18 exchange (50% survival rate)

* Sudden Death- 1-100 (10% survival rate)

* Class Colossus- 1-1000 (0.01% survival rate)(Subject to Variant Reward)

With his gut now silent he stared at the list for a good ten minutes. From what he’d seen so far the system was entirely centered around fair trade. More effort and risk equals more reward. In this turbulent time that was going to be totally key for his future survival. The only thing he didn’t understand was how the survival rate was factored. Is it from all the people who took the trial or just that difficulty? If i’m gonna live through this armageddon then i will need to be the strongest. Only the strong have a say in anything and only the strong can safeguard their own lives let alone those of others.

With a deep breath he selected and confirmed the Class Colossus difficulty rating. Almost instantly he could feel a massive shift in the air flow and almost regretted his choice before he even turned around. It was ten feet tall and slate gray but what made him mentally go Uh-oh was the fact there were four others that were nearly identical and it was shaped exactly like a big toe. In a daze he slowly looked up and got his first in person look at a mountain giant.

Gregor the Mountain Giant

Generated by the system as an over guardian he was a paragon among his race in life before he allowed the system to take him as part of their agreement. His record is flawless and he is merciless. He has never been bested in battle thanks almost entirely to his Diamond hard skin and granite hard bones.

Fuck.
