HUH !? The demon lord fell in love with me?
Chap 14- An anticlimactic chaos

Chap 14- An anticlimactic chaos

The heater hums as it begins to boil the water. It’s 6 a.m., and I can’t help but yawn, feeling too lazy to face the workday. But hey, I can’t afford to mess up my second chance. Slumped over the table, my eyes are barely open.

“I hate Mondays,” I mumble with a tired sigh.

“Oh yeah? I don’t really feel any different from other days.” The voice sounds carefree, and Ignorant.

The heater’s ring finally sounds, confirming the water is ready. I drag myself over to make my coffee.

“Ah… I don’t want to move” I complain as my head tilts sideways, almost ready to sleep again.

“Here’s your cup!” says the same voice, cheerful and bright. I mutter a tired "Thanks," savoring the rich aroma of the brewing coffee.

“Elene, you know Elysia will get mad if you too get a cup of coffee,” comes another voice—this one is more serious.

“AH? Why? I also want coffee!” protests the first voice. I hear the unmistakable sound of a spoon stirring in a second mug beside mine.

“YOU!!! WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING HERE? AND HEY, THAT'S MY COFFEE!!” I yell, snatching her mug from her.

“Hey, that’s mine!” Elene whines, but I don’t let go, too annoyed to care.

“Isn’t it too early to start giving me headaches?” I grumble.

“Huh? What? I just wanted to visit you. Isn’t that what human friends do?” The voice is innocent, but I know better.

“You’re not human…” I groan, turning to Azazel with an annoyed expression. “And you?”

Azazel looks with a cold stare. “Now that you know I’m a demon lord, you should know that I can do anything I want. There are no rules for me.”

“That is not what I meant, why the long face. Your expression changed.”

“No it didn't, this is my usual face.”

I trail off, realizing it’s better not to dive down that rabbit hole. “You know what? I don’t want to be late, so thanks for the coffee… bye!” I wave, heading for the door.

“Where is she going?” Elene asks, confused.

“To do human jobs,” Azazel replies with complete disinterest.

“Huh… sounds boring,” Elene comments.

“Ah, that reminds me, Elysia,” Azazel says suddenly.

“What?” I reply, still accommodating on my shoes.

“I can take you to your job right away.” Azazel states a sentence I never thought he would say, and not with that face.

“What? You have a car?” I ask, a spark of hope lighting up in my eyes.

“No, even better. Elene can take you there.”

Elene flashes a peace sign, her face beaming with excitement. “I can take you there!” she says, her enthusiasm almost infectious.

"What are you planning, Azazel?" I ask, already suspicious of his motives.

"Nothing, I just want to show you you're better off without her."

Elene flinches at his words, the pain flickering in her eyes despite her best efforts to smile.

I can’t support that behavior, that is not nice.

“Stop being rude to Elene; she doesn’t deserve that!” I snap, my tone sharper than I intended.

“Fine,” he mutters, turning his face away, clearly trying to end the conversation.

“You’re not even going to apologize?” I demand, folding my arms, my gaze fixed on him, waiting for any sign of remorse.

He meets my eyes briefly, a faint smirk curling the edge of his lips. “You’ll never hear me apologize to a dog,” he says, his voice calm but cutting.

My blood boils. “Oh, now you’ve done it! Get out!”

“Fine” He leaves, his face shows that face is not sad but empty. Without emotions, he is hiding it too well or perhaps he needs stimulation to actually show emotions?

Elene moves and stands up, and from behind her, massive bat-like wings unfurl with a dramatic flourish. “You want a piggyback ride or want to be carried like the princess of the underworld?” she asks, her wings casting impressive shadows. Her face trying to hide her sadness, those comments of Azazel would’ve hurt Elene. I almost feel pity for her, but the sudden strength of her makes me blur these emotions. Elene carries me like a princess making me feel so embarrassed.

“Wait—wait!” I feel my head spinning. The room tilts, and I’m on the verge of fainting. “I can’t go with you looking like that!”

“Don’t worry,” Elene reassures me with an annoyingly confident grin. “I can make us ethereal for a short time. Nobody will see us. Think of it as camouflage,” she says, her eyes sparkling with excitement. Suddenly i feel weightless, I feel weird, in a moment I can’t see my hands or my body only the surroundings

“ fine. It is still early but I want to try it, but let me finish my coffee-”

I could not even hold my cup but the thing is before letting me finish my sentence Elene starts flying without knowing we still have time.

“Don't panic is the ethereal form, so you scream if you want, either way you will not bite your tongue “ with a flash I can see our movements in a second moving in a speed compared to a jet.

“WAIT you don't even know where my work is!!!”

“Of course I know. My brother gave me that info too”

Her brother again, the dream stalker.

We arrive at the place, and I stumble off with a mix of relief and disbelief. “Thanks for the ride,” I say, forcing a nervous smile.

“Wasn’t that bad, was it?” she asks, her wings folding away with a flutter as Elene transforms us back to our physical forms.

“Yeah… you actually didn’t get lost or break anything. I think I misjudged you,” I admit, feeling a little guilty for all my previous panic.

Elene beams, her eyes lighting up. “Thanks, Elysia! You’re so nice. You’re the first real friend I’ve ever had. I tried making friends before, but as succubus, we don’t often get time to talk to other females, especially not other succubus. I did speak with human women and men out of curiosity, but it was never fun. They’re so easy to manipulate when you know which buttons to press, you know? But… it always felt like something was missing. With you, though, it’s different. The conversation feels whole.”

I can’t help but remember how she toyed with my feelings in the restaurant, prying into my secrets. So that’s why she seems so comfortable, I think.

“Well,” I say, hoping to offer some genuine advice, “you can make anyone your friend. I just think you have to be yourself. Don’t act the way you think they want you to, you don’t have to adapt to their likes. People should care for who you truly are. Once you find that, you’ll feel free.”

Elene’s eyes soften, and for a moment, she looks like she’s considering my words with genuine sincerity. “Be myself, huh. Free?” she murmurs, as if the idea is both simple and impossibly new.

“Yes, it’s simple, just think about it. But I have to work now, Elene,” I say, offering an apologetic smile. “Sorry for making you come all this way and having to head back. I’ll be sure to make it up to you.”

Elene waves goodbye, and I give a quick, awkward wave in return as I head into the office.

The moment I step inside, I notice something strange: everyone is staring at me. But this time, the looks aren’t cold or dismissive. It feels… different, almost like admiration.

“Hello, everyone?” I say hesitantly.

For the first time ever, everyone greets me back, not a single person missing. My jaw nearly drops. Did I step into an alternate universe?

I walk to the elevator, feeling like a celebrity. The energy around me is surreal, and the short glances people throw my way only add to the mystery. Are they shocked that I’m back?

“Elysia! You’re back!” calls out a guy I’ve seen working with the head of customer service. His name escapes me, but I recognize his face.

“Uh, good morning?” I reply, trying to sound casual. Before I know it, he’s pulled me into an unexpected hug, whispering conspiratorially.

“How did you do it? Tell me your secret! I want to be spoiled like that too!” he demands, eyes wide with curiosity.

I laugh nervously. “Hahaha, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I say, trying to brush it off. But his expression turns serious.

“You don’t want to mess with me, do you?” I challenge back, adopting a playful yet daring tone.

He sighs and steps back, clearly feeling defeated, while the others look at me with a mix of respect and awe. What on earth happened while I was gone? Everyone seems to believe I have some powerful connections, and honestly, who could blame them? It’s not every day someone miraculously gets their job back with zero odds in their favor.

I reach my section and spot Boss Raian, who is hard at work. Taking a deep breath, I make my approach. “Hello, Boss Raian,” I say. “The computer is loading, and I’ll be ready to sign in soon. But once my shift is over, I’d like to discuss”—I pause, trying to make it sound casual—“my raise, you know.” I give him a cheeky wink.

He looks up with a smirk. “ You came early, in fact, too early. Not bad, Since I am in a good mood, sign in and do your shift now, we have a lot to register, so if you finish to send all that data I will let you go early, obviously the pay is still considered full day.”

I stare at him, stunned. What did Azazel do to him?

“So today is all about typing this report. Gosh.” I groan, stretching my fingers before getting to work. Everything for that raise, I remind myself.

Typing…

Typing…

An hour flies by in the blink of an eye, the repetitive rhythm of keystrokes almost hypnotic.

But then I hear a commotion, voices echoing from somewhere near the elevators. It’s distracting, and my focus splinters as I realize people are gathered around, murmuring excitedly.

“Gosh.” I mutter, peering over my desk. I see a crowd forming, eyes locked on someone stepping out of the elevator. I try to ask one of my coworkers what’s going on, but he’s too busy drooling over the scene.

“Gross. Seriously?” I grimace. “At least cover your mouth, dude.”

Before I can make sense of the situation, someone calls my name. “Elysia!” My world spins as a sudden chill races down my spine. I turn to see Elene bounding toward me, her arms open wide.

“Whoa!” I stumble backward as she throws herself into a hug, pushing me off balance and throwing me into the floor.

“What are you doing here?” I ask, flustered.

Elene beams at me. “I thought about what you said—about making friends and being myself—and I came to a conclusion!”

“That’s nice and all, but you really have to go back to your home,” I say, trying to ease out of her grasp. Please, let this be quick.

“Wait, Elysia, this is important!” She clings to me, her eyes sparkling with a mix of excitement and something slightly terrifying. “Based on what you told me, if I want to be friends with someone, I have to be true to myself. And being myself made me understand something even more crucial: being myself means embracing what I do best.”

Elene’s innocent smile sends shivers down my spine. “So it means using my skills to make chaos. Then the conclusion I came up with is to become an agent of chaos… to make friends!”

“What?” My heart skips a beat.

“First!” she declares, her voice disturbingly cheerful, “I’ll make sure this company gets destroyed economically, driven straight into bankruptcy!”

. “Wait—what?!” That does not even have a connection to making friends.

“Is there a reason behind that?” I ask, trying to keep my voice steady. “You could, I don’t know, throw some paper on the streets or... bother a police officer. Why destroy specific this company”

“Huh, what are you talking about?” Elene tilts her head, genuinely confused. “I just happened to be here, so why not?.”

I sigh, realizing once again that reasoning with her is pointless. She’s not exactly a force of logic.

I am trying to take her off of me before the rest of the workers make me a target. I can feel the stares of everyone hating on me.

Before I can respond, Boss Raian steps into the scene, and my anxiety spikes. He’s staring at us, and I’m not sure what’s worse—his irritation or Elene’s unpredictability. In response the people around us leave the scene with fear.

Elene and Boss Raian lock eyes, and I brace myself for the fallout.

“Elysia,” Boss Raian snaps, “you slacked off for a week, and now that you’re back, you’re still wasting time? Get to work before I decide to fire you. And you—Crimson,” he adds, pointing at Elene, “get to your department before I make a call to your supervisor.”

Elene’s eyes widens in surprise. “You... aren’t affected? Why?” She touches her lips with her finger, genuinely confused.

Panic grips me, and I grab Elene from behind, practically dragging her out of my work section and into the hall. “Don’t worry Boss, this rookie is just lost, I will guide her to her apartment. “

“Fine do it quickly or I will start discounting”

In a hurry I use my force to drag Elene's body to the hall.

“Now, please go back home,” A little more sentiment and It would feel like I am begging her.

“Why wasn’t he affected?” she muses, still deep in thought.

“What do you mean? Affected by what?”

“My enchantment eyes,” she explains casually. “It’s a basic skill for a succubus. I thought no man could resist it.”

“Your what? You know what, never mind! Just go!” I plead, exasperated.

But she only smirks. “No, I want friends! I’ll work here, too. It’ll be so much fun.”

“You JUST SAID YOU WANT TO DESTROY THIS PLACE!” I shout.

“That would be collateral damage for being myself,” she says with a clumsy wink. Before I can stop her, she takes off, disappearing from sight. I can’t afford to waste more time on her, so I hurry back to my desk before Boss Raian decides to fire me—again.

Typing.

Typing.

Hours crawl by as I work. The office buzzes with gossip, and even though they aren’t saying it outright, I know Elene is the topic of conversation. What really gets me is how quickly everyone, especially the men, seems to know about her. Not that it’s a surprise but it is disgusting their expressions on their faces.

“Boss, I’m done,” I finally reported, handing over the copies. “I also submitted the online version.”

He barely looks up. “Fine. Take your break. 45 minutes, no more.”

“Thanks.” I’m about to head out when a group of unfamiliar coworkers approaches me.

“Elysia, want to join us for lunch in the cafeteria?” one of them asks, flashing a friendly smile.

Wait—is this my season of popularity finally starting? They probably just want to know how I managed to get my job back, but still, I smile widely. “Sure, thanks.”

One of them leans in, eyes bright with curiosity. “So... could you tell Elene to join our table? You two are friends, right? She is busy with her colleagues but if you can tell her, I'm pretty sure she will join our tables”

Huh. My heart drops. She’s more popular than me already?! She’s only been here a couple of hours, and people are already asking for her. Trying to mask my annoyance, I force a smile. “Elene? How did—? You know what, sure. I’ll ask her.”

As we head into the cafeteria, I hear a low rumble. Each step makes the noise grow louder until it transforms into full-blown shouting and yelling.

By the time we walk through the doors, the chaos is undeniable.

“ELENE IS MINE, YOU BASTARD!” someone bellows from across the room.

“OVER MY DEAD BODY!” another voice shouts back.

“I’m one of Elene’s best friends!” a woman insists, clutching at her purse like it’s a weapon.

People are actually fighting—chairs flying, punches being thrown, and utter mayhem reigning in the cafeteria. It’s like a scene out of a brawl-filled action movie. To be more specific, the stupid men are fighting.

And there, sitting near the window, is Elene. She’s beaming, not with an evil grin but with a pure, innocent joy that only makes the situation feel more absurd. I rush over to her, practically stumbling in my hurry.

“What did you do? Look at this!” I gesture wildly at the chaos unfolding around us.

Elene’s eyes sparkle with happiness. “I just let myself go and was being my true self. Now, all of them are my friends, and I’m being me—all thanks to you, Elysia!” She smiles at me, wide and genuine, completely free of malice.

“Elene, stop this! You understood me wrong, this is not how you make friends, look at them, they are in pain”

The people fighting and some on the floor lying tired with pain.

Elene's voice has a casual, almost bored tone, as if she really couldn’t care less about the chaos unfolding. “Ah... fine,” she says, showing neither anger nor concern about my desperate plea for cafeteria peace.

She turns to the mess of overly enthusiastic men. “Boys, enough with the drama. You’re ruining the cafeteria,” she commands with an eye roll.

Immediately, every single man freezes in place. “YES, Ms. ELENE!” they chorus, suddenly sounding like obedient puppies.

One of them speaks up with newfound sincerity. “We should never fight again; we’re family in this company.”

Another one chimes in, beaming. “Yes, Ms. Elene, you always show us the right way!”

A third adds dreamily, “She’s an absolute angel!”

Just like that, the chaos is over. The fighting is done, and all that’s left are tables flipped upside down and chairs scattered everywhere. I stare at the aftermath, now realizing my lunch options are either standing or... the floor. Ugh, perfect.

“That was quick,” I mutter, still baffled.

“ I know so anticlimactic, right?” She mocks me with those words.

Elene stands and flashes me a wink. “ See you when the shift’s over,” she says, sauntering off like she just casually restored world peace.

----------------------------------------

Hours pass, filled with typing, paperwork, and more typing. When I finally escape the office building, Elene is already outside, waiting.

“Ready to fly home again?” she asks, giving me that innocent smile that masks her chaotic nature.

I rub my temples. “I’d rather walk this time.”

“Sure,” she agrees, surprisingly compliant, though she sighs in a way that makes me curious—and, of course, slightly wary.

As we walk I can only but ask in response to my curiosity.

“Something bothering you?”

She looks at me surprised as it is the first time someone has read her as a book. While she isn't using her powers or her stealing info of a person, her real self is so easy to read.

“Based on today I could feel like you are a real ally, your expressions are so honest, so I want to ask” she says with a serious tone.

"Why did you save me from the punishment? I Still don’t understand."

"I don't know... Empathy, perhaps. I just couldn't watch someone being sent to their doom."

"Ah? Are you stupid?" she bursts out laughing.

"Oh, you're serious." Her smile falters as she looks at me.

"If you want to go back to Hell, that's your decision."

"Elysia... you..." Her eyes are like shell breaking, It's like she wants to cry or something.

"Ah, fine, I can't keep this secret from you anymore," she waves her arms in frustration.

My eyes widens as response to her sudden mood shift.

She takes a deep breath, exhaling slowly, repeating the motion as if gathering courage. What's going on? Why is she so nervous?

She stops, looks me straight in the eyes, and says, "Elysia, I never told you, but I was actually sent here... to kill you." My heart skips a beat, my breath catching in my throat.

She continues, “I tried to finish the mission quickly. But I didn’t know much about Earth—or any realm, for that matter. I didn’t realize there were people here who could actually see my ethereal form... and worse, fight me.”

My head spins from all this new information.

“Fight you?” I manage to whisper.

Elene nods, her gaze distant, as if lost in memories. "Yeah, I fought a few exorcists. Almost killed them. I was ready to land the final blow."

"The reason I couldn't kill you that day," she pauses dramatically, “is because one of those exorcists told me something shocking: if a demon kills a mortal, a legion of angels will hunt the culprit down. And they’d have every right to obliterate me on the spot.”

“What? You actually believed that?”

Elene nods solemnly. “Yeah. They drilled it into us as kids that we needed permission from any HIGH-Demons like the council or higher rank permission to do forbidden actions. But I’d forgotten about that... until that exorcist reminded me.” She smiles with a silly expression.

"Wow, that’s... a lot. But what made you change your mind and tell me all this?"

“Well,” she starts, her voice quieter, “my brother told me about you and Lord Azazel. He used my jealousy to send me here to Earth. I think he wanted to get rid of both you and me at the same time.”

“You figured all that out by yourself?”

"Yeah, why?"

“Well, yesterday you called me about the cereal and milk order—"

“What does that have to do with anything?”

"No, no, my bad, continue please," I cut in, my face heating up.

“Well,” she says, her eyes flicking away, "after that, a few days have passed and I found you. To be honest, I still want you deleted from Azazel’s life, but... not as much as before.”

she adds, turning to me with a mischievous grin, “so, Elysia, how’s your relationship with Lord Azazel? Are you two a thing yet?”

I almost choke. “What? No! I’m not even into him! You saw us this morning, nothing happens”

Her eyes light up with playful mischief. “Your loss! In that case, don’t blame me if I steal him from you. Just remember, we can be friends and rivals in love at the same time.”

“I told you! I don’t feel anything for that guy!” I snap, and in a fit of annoyance, I tug her hair.

“Ow, ow, sorry! I get it, I get it!” She yelps, laughing despite the mild pain, and I can’t help but roll my eyes, a reluctant smile tugging at my lips.

“ Look over there is Joseph!”

I turn around in disbelief, making my grip soften. Elene uses my distraction to escape while I speak.

“How do you know- huh? “

She releases from my grasp with a high speed.

“ Remember, I have been told your deepest secrets!” She teases while she runs away

“Come back here, I will make you bald, Stupid succubus!” As I run to follow her.
