Foreword: On the Origins of the Xita

“It is believed that nearly 10,000 years ago, the great cosmic insect, Nanaxiti, fell to Gaia after being violently cast from the hellish realm of Styx, an event which would have created what is now known as Monongahela Valley. Of course, these days we know that to not be the case, as Nanaxiti's true origins were discovered to be from within the very core of the Earth itself, a forgotten subterranean otherworld known as Agartha. Forced out of Agartha by the Apex, Nanaxiti was said to have given birth to the Xita race by 'dividing her body into millions of pieces.' Scholars believe that the creature underwent a bizarre adaptive metamorphosis, potentially brought on by the meddling of the Shepherd God Hastur or the lingering, mutant radiation of the Wild God Shub, which lead to the asexual reproduction of the ancient Xita.

Ancient Xita were said to be giants of a hivemind intelligence, working together to serve and worship their now-dead queen, dwelling within the upper crusts of the Great Araguainha Vent. During their early years, the Xita would remain deep underground, bordering the edges of Agartha and Gaia, but never daring to venture back into the forgotten realm for fear that the Apex would find and finish them off. Xita developed their own language of clicks and percussive sounds to communicate across large gaps of dark tunnels and chambers. This language later became known as Low Xitan.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

For many moons the ancient Xita ruled over the lands between with an iron fist, until one day, when a great plague descended upon the people; Human invaders from the Great Araguainha Vent. They brought not only their bloodshed, but their pestilence as well. Over the course of one year, the ten-thousand year old empire of the ancient Xita was reduced to rot.

When their large, sensitive eyes finally adjusted to the light, the few remaining survivors quickly migrated to the surface of the Earth in search of opportunity; there was a flimsy promise that they would be better provided for up here than they would scrounging in the dark.

In monster reservations such as Hudsonville, Xita are widely accepted to be the most well-adjusted of the monster-folk, as thousands of years of dedication and cooperation to the hive have greatly strengthened their bonds...And their work ethic.

A straightforward, no-nonsense people—that is the modern Xita.”
