Chapter 8: A memory not soon forgotten

Chapter 8: A memory not soon forgotten

Nathan watched from the top of the tree branch while Brandon desperately was running through the forest in his direction without the slightest idea that Nathan was perched on one of the tree branches. Nathan was scared to his bones after seeing the massive beast giving chase to the man but he knew he had to help, he couldn’t let someone be killed like that, the Boar was catching up and although Brandon was zigzagging through the forest so the Boar would have to manoeuvre among the trees he had no doubt it would reach Brandon at some point. Mind furiously trying to think of a way to help, Nathan decided to get down a few branches whilst shouting to Brandon to come his way, an idea forming on his head.

As soon as Brandon noticed Nathan on the tree waving and shouting, he did a beeline in his direction. Nathan on his end got to the lowest and strongest branch and held the wooden part of the spear under the blade, offering the shaft of the spear to Brandon so he could hold and be pulled up. ‘Man grab the spear I’ll pull you up!’, Nathan said in a hurry realising the Boar was arriving too fast. As soon as Brandon grabbed the butt of the spear, Nathan tried to pull him up to his branch, realising he didn’t have the strength necessary for the feat and was feeling desperate as the boar was approaching quickly, he opened his Status and dumped 5 points into Strength, bringing his total Strength to 14 points, hoping it would be enough to pull the man up with all his gear. ‘Pull me up dude, pull me up!!’, Brandon shouted as terror was reaching his mind, seeing that the boar was rushing into him and was closer than he would like. Nathan felt strength going through his veins and started pulling the man up, his branch was about 3 meters off the ground and he Nathan was closer to the trunk of the tree when Brandon was about half way through in the air, almost reaching the branch with his left hand while his legs were trying to walk the trunk in a upwards manner, the Boar with his head down and the tusks facing upwards crashed into the tree and got Brandon with one of his tusks, piercing him though his protective pants, Brandon kept a firm grip on the spear as the tusk pierced all the way through his thigh, the huge boar tried to pull back and bring Brandon with it but all he managed to do was to dislodge itself from Brandon whilst Brandon held to the spear. The boar retreated a few meters for another charge.

‘AHHHHHHhhHh! You fucking cunt of a PIG, my leg, my fucking LEG’, Brandon shouted as pain cursed through his body. Nathan was still holding to the spear and trying to pull him onto the branch but unfortunately Brandon let go of the spear as the pain was too much, he fell on to the ground and tried to get back up on his feet, he managed to get back up by leaning against the tree, his leg was hurting a lot and bleeding everywhere but he had to survive, he wouldn’t be able to run and there was no way to fight something that big head on.

‘DUDE help me please, its gonna kill me, it’s gonna KILL ME!’ Brandon yelled, desperately, pain in his voice.

‘Fuck this, fuck this, FUCK! WHAT SHOULD I DO?’, Nathan, screamed back, terrified.

‘I don’t know, but please help, I won’t be able to hold much longer’, Brandon replied.

Nathan found himself in a dilemma, torn between his initial idea to grab the boar's attention and outrun it, and the realization that he wouldn’t be able to outrun it and would be in the same predicament as the man before him. Moreover, he knew that this stranger, couldn't provide any assistance in his current weakened state. Time was running out, and if Nathan didn't take action, the new person would be that and he probably would be the boar's next target. Unfortunately, the boar charged once more, this time delivering a powerful blow to Brandon's abdomen with even greater force than before, leaving the boar stuck into the tree Nathan was standing on. Brandon screamed in agony, aware that his injuries were grave and without medical help nearby, his chances of survival were slim. Witnessing the man’s impending demise, Nathan couldn't bear the sight and felt a deep sense of powerlessness. Rather than standing by as a coward, he made the decision to confront the boar head-on, even if it was already too late. With spear in hand and the blade poised downward, Nathan mustered all his strength and courage. He leaped from the tree branch, focusing his entire weight and force into an aerial attack. As the boar prepared to free itself from the tree, it suddenly looked up and noticed Nathan hurtling towards it. Nathan had found the boar's perfect vulnerability—its eye.
