Accessing the System Market was an eye-opening experience, it contained a few tabs available, but most were locked, and I couldn’t see what they contained or their names unfortunately. The first tab that was unlocked for me was:
Tools: from all sorts of tools, such as pans, shovels, ropes, leather backpacks, tents, fire starters, rations, some pelts, etc… Anything to do with survival and a few odd things.
Materials: This tab contained manly brute materials, such as different types of ores and wood.
Weapons: This was straight forward but I took a long time looking through this part, there wasn’t anything magical or out of the ordinary, and it’s as you would expect, different types of bows, swords, maces, shields, spears, lances, daggers.
Armour: This ranged from different types of clothes, which were all human fashioned, different styles and types of armor, either made of hard leather or metal.
Classes: Here is where I spent most of my time skimming through, as there were a few different options with different prices in essence, I assumed there would be more options but realised they would have to be triggered or would be status related or unlocked through different achievements.
Skills: As the name suggests different skills available for me which I could buy.
Sell: You could also sell stuff to the System market, I assumed items that dropped by creatures or herbs you could gather through the forrest.

Looking at the list left me utterly disappointed, I had created a lot of expectations towards choosing a class the first time I saw this tab that would help me survive out here but the ones given to me all seemed to be made towards re-creating life on Earth, I had assumed that choosing the highest difficulty mode would give me extra options but looking back now it seemed like I was being naïve, yet I couldn’t complain as it seemed to have given me what I considered good amount of essence and a unique skill.
Considering my options, I thought about picking the Fighter class as it would hopefully give me some knowledge on how to fight monsters or other creatures, increasing my odds of surviving here, ultimately, I didn’t chose it as it was of common rarity and I didn’t want to be something that anyone could be.
“I can be so arrogant sometimes”. I thought to myself.
Then there was also the class Tracker which due the rarity I assumed it was given to me due my higher perception. Pondering about the class, I opted for not choosing it just yet in hopes I could unlock something better later, in case I survived long enough which was the plan.
The last tab available for me was called Skills, and it was there and then I made my first choices in the tutorial. Looking through the long list, which contained a huge variety of different skills, I took a long time planning my course of action, I knew I wasn’t particularly good at anything, I had never really fought for my life or killed an animal in order survive, even though I’m not vegetarian I had never really killed anything in order to feed myself.
Filtering through the list I decided to pick two skills on which I felt confident would greatly help me getting out to explore but more than that, they would help me survive, and if anything, surviving seemed like the optimal option.

As soon as I bought Detect Danger, I was filled with a sense of peacefulness which I attributed to the safe zone where I found myself in, it was oddly comforting as if I was in my own bed and at peace with myself. I wondered how that would feel when I was in real danger, hopefully I wouldn’t have to find out anytime soon but if I did I hoped the spell would give me a head start to scape. Hide Presence on the other hand, filled me with knowledge on how to basically well, hide my presence, giving me comprehension on how to breath properly in order to not be detected and knowledge on what to do in certain situations. I knew the skill wouldn’t be super effective at level 1 if someone had a higher perception or other detective skills, but it would certainly increase my survival chances. Spending the 650 essence required to buy both skills left me with 550, I had nothing to my name but them shit clothes I was wearing and 550 essence to spare, knowing I would have to stay in this forest for a quite some time, I got myself some essential items, such as: a backpack, some dry rations, fire-starter, pan, a waterskin, a tent and some other silly things amounting to a total of 100 essence which I thought was quite cheap. Next, I got myself some sturdy boots and gloves, I held on buying any sort of armour, I wasn’t expecting to fight just yet and if I had to run it would be more of a nuisance than actual help.
Also I bought a pair of boots and gloves that came down to 75 Essence, I judged the boots to be of utmost importance as there was no way I was gonna walk around wearing fucking sandals. That left me with 375 Essence, and I started getting a bit nervous as I still had to buy more items. Next thinking logically, I decided to buy a spear for its longer reach and simplicity to be handled, I could either stab, keeping it a distance and if anything just throw it, also got myself a hunting knife with a sheath I could wrap around my waist, the knife was bought in case anything got close to me and I had to drop the spear. All items were fairly sturdy but nothing to write home about, the gloves and boots were made of some type of letter, the spear was about 190cm long with a typical steel head, the shaft was made of a lighter wood as it didn’t seem to be too heavy.
Just like that, two out of my five slots had been used and I was close to not having essence, I also came to the realisation that most people probably wouldn’t be able to buy skills at the beginning, which got me wondering if classes came with skills, or any other way to facilitate the intended purpose of the class? The lack of information was frustrating but besides that I was feeling a bit more hopeful in the amount of time it took me to go through these screens.
