Chapter 4: Magic!
Year 501, 7 days after I got out of my room
“Fire energy, I call upon you, to unleash… Fire Bolt!”
I convinced Akafmowa to teach me magic.
Akafmowa started by teaching me how to chant spells. The order generally looks like this;
*Magic Type*, I call upon you, to unleash, *Spell Name*.
Every chant follows this simple order. Akafmowa told me that this order is the most common, and was created 2 generations ago to maximize accessibility, power, and speed.
“Is this good?” I asked Akafmowa,
“Yup! It’s perfect!”
I took this as just a compliment at the time.
I continued to do my fire bolt. Apparently, fire magic is the hardest of the main 4 magic types of this world.
I did a fire bolt again, but this time I used my left hand, instead of my right.
“Fire energy, I call upon you, to unleash… Fire Bolt!”
The small ball of flames was much smaller. I thought about it, and I thought it had to be my form. With my left hand, my form was sloppier.
So I tried fire bolt again.
Again, and again, and again.
While the fire bolt grew larger and larger, my mana supply grew weaker and weaker.
I learned two days ago, when my training started, that you can replenish your mana by eating certain foods. For example, manar berries got their name from their large amount of mana restoration, and how it is the most common food for restoring mana among mages.
I grabbed some manar berries from a nearby field, and shoved my face full of them. I waited a little while for the mana restoration to take effect, and went back to practicing.
14 days into training
Today I learned the true scope of magic, there are 20 elements in total. I hope I can learn them all.
15 days into training
I can report, I learned them all.
Stolen novel; please report.
17 days into training
Today I learned how to shorten spell chantings. I shortened
“*Magic type* I call upon you, to unleash… *Spell Name*
To,
“*Magic Type* I call upon you, *Spell Name*
20 days into training
Today, I shortened my chant to just,
*Spell name*
No one has ever shortened beyond this point.
30 days into training
Today, I learned a spell from the most difficult magic type, dark.
The spell I learned is called “Seal”
It is a magic type used to Seal small monsters.
32 days into training
Today, I killed my first monster. It was a small bird, I could have taken on more, but my sealing magic kept me back, as all sealing magic is dark magic type.
33 days into training
I upgraded my sealing magic. I have now upgraded my seal magic to a spell simply called, “Enhanced Seal” Although, this only allows me to seal small bear-like monsters and such.
90 days into training
The village leader came to suggest a possible job for me. A Dungeon Master. He said that a Dungeon Master is someone who represents their village when looting dungeons.
The village leader said that it would be a possible career path for me to go down, and that I already had a vast amount of knowledge required for a job.
I thought that that was a perfect way for me to learn more about this strange world.
I asked the village leader what I had to do to get the position. He said,
“First you have to be a little older! Hahaha! But the first step you should take is attending the magic academy in the city. Of course, there's still 4 years of waiting, but that’s 4 more years of practice!”
I thought that was a good idea, I should practice more.
360 days into training. My 12th Birthday.
1 year ago, I was being attacked by a monster, and I was too scared to do anything.
Here I am today, killing 400 of the same monster, all at the same time.
I decided that even if I’m 2 years younger than I should be, I’m going to try to get into the magic academy. I’ll probably fail the test, but that’s fine. I don’t care.
The test is in 7 days. I’ll have to train my hardest.
The day of the test.
Yesterday, I took a wagon to the city. It was the same city from my original dream. The dream from the day I was pulled into this mess. This time though, there were many people.
Today though, I walked into the testing building with little confidence, however I was ready.
The testing building was the same building that I found the person in, in my dream.
When I walked in, I first noticed that the decoration in the room was beautiful. I’m not sure what they used, but it was amazing.
They had a line for testing on the right of the room, which I stood in.
The person behind me was a friendly girl who talked to me. The line went by fast because of our conversation.
Before I knew it, I was at the front of the line. The line led outside, to 3 targets. The instructor sighed, and told me that I was too young for the school. I asked,
“What if I do better than you expect?”
“Oh, well that would be extremely rare and-”
I sent out a fire bolt, with a small exhale. It destroyed the target completely, and everything within a 15 meter radius of it. Good thing the target was so far away from where I was.
“Sir! How in the- Sure. Sure. You get your way. Just get in the group of people who passed.” It seemed the man was so stunned that he just gave up. The girl behind me asked me,
“How did you not have a chant?”
“Oh, well, you know how you can shorten chants? I just shortened it to an exhale.”
The girl was equally as shocked as the instructor. The girl asked,
“What’s your name?”
“Iro.” I responded, as I headed off to the group of people who had passed, “Yours?”
“Emi.” She responded.
That name. It was earthly.
