The Ques and the noobs returned to the party. Eiffel was heavily drunk and he was stumbling for it when he spotted Maria on the dance floor.
"There she is... Even in a crowd of people, she stands out.", Eiffel thought as he was approaching her.
The dance floor was the heart of the nightclub, a pulsating mass of bodies moving in synchrony with the DJ's beats. People swayed, spun, and twirled, lost in the rhythm, their deliberate and spontaneous movements. Their energy was contagious, spreading like wildfire, as strangers became friends for a fleeting moment, sharing a common bond of celebration and release.
Maria grabbed Eiffel over the neck immediately after she found him in front of her.
"Hm...what happened to her all of a sudden? This is not the Maria I've seen this far...", Eiffel thought confusingly and then asked, "Are you ok?"
"Why do you ask?", Maria asked back.
"You're holding your arms around me like this.", Eiffel implied.
"We're just dancing.", said Maria.
"Ah, just dancing, huh?", Eiffel asked nervously.
"Scratching your back... Like I promised I would.", Maria flirted while she gave a wink at him.
"Ok... She's drunk too... Well... That makes two of us.", Eiffel thought. Then they kept dancing passionately and also they kissed which came to Busquets' sight.
Then she took him by the sofa in the corner and pushed him down on it, sat on his lap, and started kissing his neck.
Jack was drinking and spending time with Velvet when Busquets approached them.
"Bro... look.", Busquets said to Jack while pointing toward Eiffel.
"That's my son...", Jack laughed.
"What?! Are you crazy? You do realize what that means?", Busquets freaked out.
"Well, look at who you're doing yourself tonight.", Jack joked.
"Come on. No one cares about Dew.", said Busquets.
"Don't worry. We'll handle it.", Jack told him not to worry about Eiffel.
Suddenly Maria stopped and asked, "Wanna go over to my place?"
"What's with her?", Eiffel thought with a surprise and asked, "...What about Rocky?"
"He's not joining us.", said Maria.
"That wasn't what I meant.", said Eiffel.
"I know what you meant! So? Are you gonna make me regret asking?", Maria asked as she turned angry.
"No... I...", Eiffel mumbled as he felt uncomfortable.
"So? Wanna go over to my place? or we could do this right here.", Maria suggested.
"In public? How drunk are you?", Eiffel was startled.
"Haha! I'm pretty *beep* hammered.", said Maria as she giggled.
"NOOB! GET OVER HERE! NOW!", Adam screamed at Eiffel.
Eiffel freaked out and said to Maria, "I'll be back.", then he went to Adam.
"Hey, what's the problem I was kinda busy over th-", said Eiffel, but Adam stopped him by saying in a serious tone, "You do realize what you're about to do?"
"Yeah, of course.", Eiffel answered confidently.
"Man... You're *beep* crazy. This is not the Ass Whipping Contest anymore, you know that? If you do what you intend to do right now, everyone at this party will talk about that tomorrow. For one, it will reach Rocky before sunrise. He will *beep* kill you with his own hands. I'm not even joking! Dude... We've got your back...but don't be an idiot. Go home. Now! I'm only saying it because I care. Go home.", Adam told him and he meant every word seriously.
"*beep*...I know he's right...", Eiffel thought while feeling guilty as well. Then Adam called for Grate who was having drinks with Suzanne. Then Grate came to him as a response.
"Take him home.", Adam strictly told Grate. Then Grate and Eiffel made their exit from Ophelia Pond.
Later. Eiffel and Grate were walking home and having a drunken conversation.
Eiffel: What time is it?
Grate: It must be 13... or close to 14 I tell ya'!
Eiffel: So, any plans for the rest of the night?
Grate: Yes. I was thinking something.
Eiffel: You know what? I don't feel... *gulp* I don't feel anything at all. I don't feel angry. I don't feel sad. I don't feel happy. I don't feel lonely. I don't feel scared.
Grate: *burp* Hey! That's a good idea! Isn't there a Blood Games task called 'Steal a Toe Tag from the Morgue'?
Eiffel: Oh yeah. I heard there's a dead house nearby. Wanna head over there?
Grate: ...precisely! *gulp*
Eiffel: Ok then... Let's go... You have your phone with you, right?
Grate: Yesh.. Yeshhh!
Eiffel: Shut up! ...what went back in there with you and Suzanne?
Grate: Oh, Suzanna? Yes! We are really good friends now. I find we have many things in common in our likings.
Eiffel: You call her Suzanna? ...but what about Arumi?
Grate: Arumi? ...Man, I'm confused.
Eiffel: Confused about what?
Grate: I don't understand if she likes me or not.
Eiffel: You only met her. It's only been 2 days. Give each other some time.
Grate: Dude, why are you spoiling my mood? You know what? You are confused too.
Eiffel: Confused? Me?
Grate: Yeah! Between Sarah and Maria.
Eiffel: *annoyed* *beep* happens, mate, when you are drunk.
Grate: I've seen it, dude. You can't hide it from me. And you know what?
Eiffel: What?
Grate: *giggles* That Maria likes you too.
Eiffel: *annoyed* Shut up and keep walking!
Grate: *startled* Hey! I gotta go back! I forgot to take Suzanna's number!", Grate was startled and he was about to move back. Eiffel held him by his collar and pulled him to his way.
Eiffel: Not now! Another day! We got a job to do!
Later. Eiffel and Grate were peeing together in the dark, they were drunk, and joking around as usual.
Grate: Hey, buddy, have you ever thought about how peeing is like a life metaphor?
Eiffel: Huh? Dude, we're just drunk and peeing. What's with the deep thoughts now?
Grate: Hear me out, man. See, when you're peeing, it's like letting go of all your worries, all your problems. It's a cathartic release!
Eiffel: Cathartic release? Are you serious? I just had one too many beers, and now I have to pee like a racehorse!
Grate: But think about it! We're standing here, side by side, letting go of our burdens and embracing the flow of life.
Eiffel: More like embracing the flow of beer. We should have paced ourselves, my friend.
Grate: No regrets, buddy. Life is too short for regrets, especially when you're peeing in the backyard of a morgue while intoxicated! We should seize the moment. Carpe diem and all that.
They were definitely in the jungle that was in the back of a morgue.
Eiffel: *zips up his pants and turned around* Okay, okay, I get it. Let's focus on the task at hand.
Grate: Yes! Aim, release, and hope for no splashbacks! Ah, the delicate art of aiming while intoxicated. A true test of skill and precision. It's like a drunken game of darts, but with a much higher risk of embarrassment. Cheers to that, my peeing pal! May our bladders always be full and our laughter never-ending! Here's to drunken wisdom and shared pee adventures!
Eiffel: I wasn't talking about that. I mean that task. We gotta find a way to get inside.
Grate: Oh. *zips up his pants as well and turned around* Yeshhh. About that. *hiccup* Dude, why did we end up here? This is creepy!
Eiffel: *raised an eyebrow* Don't tell me you are afraid?
Grate: Shut up! Grate The Great is not afraid of anything! *laughs* "I ain't afraid of no ghosts!" Well, maybe just a little bit when I'm drunk and peeing next to a morgue!
Eiffel: Grate The Great?
Grate: ...GTG for abbreviation.
Eiffel: *sighed* Ok. We gotta observe first.
Then they moved to the far left side of the jungle from where the morgue's front double door was visible to them. They were waiting for someone to show up and enter the morgue or someone to exit the morgue. This was not a hospital. It was only a morgue in the middle of a jungle. The chill outside the morgue seeped into the air, adding an extra layer of coldness to the atmosphere. The temperature was noticeably lower than the surroundings, almost as if it carried a hint of lifelessness within. A gentle breeze rustled through the trees, causing the leaves to whisper a mournful tune. It carried a haunting quality as if nature itself acknowledges the solemnity of the place. The breeze brushed against the skin, sending a shiver down the spine, reminding Eiffel and Grate of their mortality. Lights were coming out of the windows which created an assumption that someone was inside the morgue.
Eiffel: Talk about stealing a toe tag. What time is it?
Grate: 14.
Eiffel: *irritated* Check your phone and tell me!
Grate: *checked his phone* Itz.. Itz... 28:10.
Eiffel: *startled* Huh!? What!? *snatched his phone* It's 10:28. I'm pretty sure someone's inside. We should wait for them to get out first. *returned his phone* Dude... How drunk are you?
Grate: *hiccup* Hey, buddy, I think we've had a few too many drinks tonight! I think I need to take a piss again. *stands up and zips down* And don't act like you are sober yet, buddy. Join me.
Eiffel: *joins him* ...Yeah, you're right! And look at us, taking a leak near a morgue. We must be breaking some sort of record!
Grate: *looking around nervously* Shh, keep it down! We don't want the dead to wake up thinking it's a water park or something!
Eiffel: *laughs* Water park? Oh man, that would be a sight! Imagine zombies on the water slides, screaming with joy!
Grate: *chuckling* Yeah, and instead of lifeguards, they'd have undertakers diving in to rescue them.
Eiffel: *wipes away tears of laughter* Oh, and their snack bar could be serving "Brain Burgers" and "Maggot Milkshakes"! It would be the most horrifyingly hilarious place ever!
Suddenly Eiffel's instincts caught up with something. The lights were turned off inside so no lights were coming out of the windows any longer which caught Eiffel's sight.
"Someone's coming out!", Eiffel alerted him. "Hide! Now!" They zipped up their pants immediately and hid behind trees. The double doors opened up and two doctors wearing masks came out of it.
Doctor A: Whew, that was a challenging case. I'm glad we finally finished the autopsy.
Doctor B: Absolutely, it was quite intense. The level of trauma and injuries on the body was astounding. I've never seen anything like it.
The doctors walked away. Eiffel observed for some time.
"I think we should make our move now!", Eiffel whispered. "Run for it!" They ran and approached the front gate. Both Eiffel and Grate gulped, and looked at each other, an unknown emotion was going through their minds, and they didn't know if it was fear or guilt. Eiffel grabbed the door and pulled it. But it wasn't opening. He pulled it as hard as he could, also he pushed it as well. But the door wasn't opening.
"I don't understand. It looked like doctors just pushed the doors open while they were getting out.", Grate said in surprise.
"They definitely wouldn't keep the morgue unlocked for body stealing, of course.", Eiffel mocked and then barked, "Damn! We are so stupid! ...Now how do we get it!? Any ideas?"
"I think the door can be unlocked from the inside without any trouble, but from the outside, some sort of permit is needed. Maybe a pass, a card, or a key.", said Grate after having a thought. "So, my advice is that one of us gets inside and opens the door. That's how the remaining of us gets inside."
"What if that doesn't work either? What if something is needed from the inside as well to get out?", Eiffel implied.
"Well then. How about we sneak in just as they get inside?", Grate asked.
"That's a *beep* move!", Eiffel yelled. "You know what? I say we steal whatever permit they have and then we get inside our way. How about that?" Eiffel came up with a conclusion.
"Just for a toe tag...", Grate sighed. "Your call. I have a plan in mind."
"I'm listening.", said Eiffel.
"First we look at what sort of permit they use to get inside. Then when they return...", said Grate.
Later. The Doctors returned and they used their ID card as the permit to enter the morgue. The ID cards were on their collars.
"Damnit, man! It's their ID card! And they are wearing it! How do we steal it now?", Eiffel asked as he got frustrated.
"Hmm...", Grate thought for a while before suggesting, "Listen. The plan stays the same. But we switch places. How about that?"
Eiffel thought for a while and then laughed, "Praise to the lord who created you who can come up with savage ideas while being drunk."
Then. The doctors came out of the morgue while Eiffel approached them, veering left and right, stumbling along. "Hic! Hey, doctor! I have a very important question for you.", Eiffel asked them.
"Yes? What seems to be the problem?", Doctor A replied.
"Hic! Which way is to the morgue?", Eiffel asked.
"Well, you're actually standing right in front of it.", Doctor B answered.
"Huh? Really? Are you sure about that?", Eiffel asked in confusion.
"Absolutely.", said Doctor B. The Doctors were feeling uncomfortable and awkward from talking to him. They seemed to understand that Eiffel was drunk.
"Wow! I never knew the morgue was so... blurry.", Eiffel commented.
"Blurry?", said Doctor A from being puzzled.
"Yeah, it's all spinning around. Can't see straight, you know?", Eiffel laughed.
"Have you been drinking tonight?", Doctor A asked.
"Drinking? Me? No! Absolutely not!", Eiffel denied.
"Well, I'm afraid I'll have to ask you to walk in a straight line for me.", Doctor A urged.
"Straight line? Are you sure? Can't I zigzag a bit? Adds some flair, you know?", Eiffel joked.
"No. A straight line will do just fine.", said Doctor A as he didn't buy it.
"Alright, alright. I'll give it a shot. Here we go!", Eiffel accepted, but instead, he dropped Doctor A with a German Suplex. Eiffel was running away and the Doctors were chasing him. Grate was laughing out loud while rolling on the floor. Then he approached the morgue and found Doctor A's ID card. It must've fallen from taking that Suplex. He picked it up and used it to open the door.
Later. Eiffel returned and he was searching for Grate. Seemed to be that he outsmarted the doctors. All of a sudden Grate opened the door and said, "Told you the door would open from the inside without a permit." Eiffel laughed and they had a fist bump before entering the morgue.
As they cautiously pushed open the heavy double doors, a distinct change in the atmosphere engulfed them, shrouding the room in an eerie stillness. The morgue lay before them, its subdued lighting casting long shadows across the sterile surfaces. The faint hum of refrigeration units resonated through the room, their constant presence a reminder of the purpose this place served. The temperature inside was noticeably cooler as if the very air itself held a somber chill. Goosebumps formed on their skin, a natural response to the sub-zero environment carefully maintained to preserve the deceased. A faint scent, a mix of antiseptic and the lingering echoes of chemicals used for preservation danced in the air, a silent testimony to the delicate balance between life and death. Each body, resting peacefully in refrigerated compartments or upon stainless steel trays, waited silently for their stories to be unraveled. They could feel the presence of the deceased in the room, their souls lingering in the ethereal realm between this world and the next. It was as if their essence still clung to the air, their presence a quiet whisper that echoed through the sterile space. Eiffel and Grate couldn't help but wonder about their stories, the lives they had lived, and the loved ones they had left behind.
Eiffel and Grate were looking around and checking things out like the equipment, compartments, corpses, etc, also they were joking around.
"It's too cold in here, buddy.", said Grate. "I wonder if the ghosts in this morgue ever complain about the cold."
"Well, they do have some serious body temperature issues!", Eiffel replied. "I bet the morgue is the quietest place in the world."
"Yeah, it's like a silent disco, except no one's dancing and the music is dead!", Grate joked. "You know, being in a morgue right now it's reminding me of my ex-girlfriend."
"Why's that?", Eiffel asked.
"Well, just like her, everything in here is cold and lifeless!", said Grate. Eiffel sighed. "You know, being in a morgue makes me appreciate life more.", Grate continued.
"Yeah, especially when you see all these bodies, it really makes you want to live it up!", Eiffel agreed as he was checking out the bodies in the refrigerated compartments. "I wonder if these dead bodies ever wake up and think, 'Oh no, not another autopsy!'"
"Haha! I guess they really need to get their rest in peace!", Grate laughed. "Do you think the morgue staff ever play pranks on each other with these bodies?"
"Oh, I can just imagine them setting up a game of 'Corpse Hide and Seek'!", Eiffel joked.
Grate took out his phone, turned the camera on, and said, "Hey, buddy. Let's take some photos for memories." Then they clicked photos of themselves posing with the corpses on the steel trays and refrigerated compartments. Then they continued checking out the bodies.
"Hey, sneaking in here, it reminds me of that time we tried to steal a coffin.", said Grate.
"Yeah! We were dead serious about it!", Eiffel cheered up. "You know, I heard some people donate their bodies to science."
"Yeah, it's like they're saying, 'Take me out for a spin in the name of research!'", Grate joked.
"Alright. Enough fun. Now grab one of these toe tags and let's get the hell out of here.", Eiffel suggested.
"Whoa Whoa! Not so fast, buddy.", Grate declined. "We sneaked in here after all the trouble and now you wanna get outta here this sooner?", Grate laughed and sat down. "I'm not outta here until I'm sober." Then he brought out two beer cans from his pockets and gave one to Eiffel.
"Dude, seriously?", Eiffel was dumbfounded. "You wanted to get sober and now you are about to drink even more?"
"Relax, buddy. There's an empty tray in the corner. I won't leave until I see who lies down on that.", Grate urged. Eiffel sighed, sat down on the floor, opened up the can, and drank.
"You know what would be hilarious? If one of those corpses sat up and asked us for a "splash" of our finest beverage!", said Grate as he was grinning mischievously.
"Yeah, we'd be like, 'Sorry, buddy, all we got is beer, and I don't think it's your preferred embalming fluid!'", Eiffel chuckled. Then they were laughing out loud like two drunk men.
"You know, being in a morgue reminds me of a buffet.", Grate implied.
"Really? How so?", Eiffel asked.
"Well, the food might be cold, but at least the customers are quiet!", Grate joked. Then they were laughing again like two madmen. All of a sudden Eiffel's instincts caught up something again and beckoned Grate to keep silent. There was some chitchatting outside and it was getting closer. Eiffel told Grate to hide as soon as possible. Then they hid somewhere and after a while 5 men entered the morgue. 3 HP officers and 2 doctors. The doctors were carrying a coffin. They took out a body from it and lay it down on that empty tray. Then they were chitchatting.
"Another victim of this case, huh? I wonder when it's gonna stop."
"Another fall from the Belleford bridge."
"What's going on in there?"
"*familiar voice* Get her in the autopsy and give me the report as soon as possible. Any identity of this subject?" Eiffel recognized the voice so he peeked. Turned out it was Marquis Roosevelt.
"Only her name. Found it in her bag, sir."
"Write it down on her toe tag.", Marquis ordered.
"Yes, sir!"
"Hmm... Is this some sort of coincidence? It has been going on for months now on the Belleford Bridge. And all the bodies found are female subjects. And their age... They are more like college students... There's no stopping it. And all of them have these bruises all over their bodies.", Marquis worried so much that he ended up lighting up a cigarette and started smoking in the morgue.
"Belleford Bridge is a famous haunted place. It happens every once in a while for a long time now. People take their own lives from sadness and depression for family issues, job issues, relationship issues. Most bodies are found on the bottom of the bridge. But these female issues are happening all so suddenly."
"Come on, Boss. It has been a long day. Let's go get some rest. We can investigate this case tomorrow.", said one officer to Marquis.
"*sigh* Yeah... I agree with that. Let's go."
Then they were leaving. As they were making their exit, Marquis stopped and looked back.
"Is there any problem, Boss?", one officer asked.
"...It's unusual to smell beer in a morgue... or maybe it's just my imagination. Let's go.", said Marquis before they made their exit. After a while, Eiffel and Grate came out.
"That was Marquis, right? What the hell was he doing here?", Grate startled.
"It sounded like he has been doing an investigation for some time now. And it looks like another victim was just added to it... Grate, you got your wish fulfilled. Now do what you want to do and then let's get the hell out of here quick.", said Eiffel.
"Yes. Now I want to check out who just lied on that empty tray.", said Grate as he approached it. Then slowly he removed the white sheet off the body's face. And they weren't totally ready for what they saw at all. As if they've turned completely sober upon seeing what's in front of them.
"It's... It's Maki!", Grate uttered in fear. It was truly Maki. Her face was bruised, but still recognizable.
"Maki!? She is dead!?", Eiffel was in disbelief. Then he checked her toe tag and it had Maki's name on it - 'Maki Campbell'.
"But I heard she quit this morning. Now she is dead. It doesn't make any sense!", Grate was flabbergasted. Eiffel was so shocked that he turned completely silent.
"Hey, buddy, you alright?", Grate asked while he was worried.
"I'm trying to process in my head about this whole situation. But, I just can't seem to link up or connect all these series of events. How did it happen from that to this?", Eiffel was very confused.
"You know what? I'm gonna click her photos, take this evidence, and submit it to the higher-ups. I wanna know who is behind all this.", Grate hesitated. Then she took photos of Maki's face from every angle very carefully. Grate also took her toe tag.
"Now let's get the hell out of here.", said Grate.
"Yes.", Eiffel agreed. But, as Eiffel was about to move, he felt one cold hand suddenly grab his wrist, sending a shiver down his spine. He slowly looked back. It was Maki's hand that grabbed him. Her eyes were closed. Then suddenly, she opened her eyes with a glare, her eyes were red, and she looked furious as if Eiffel committed a crime. She sat up and pushed him hard to a wall. Then she floated in the air and choked Grate.
"How dare you disturb my sleep!?", Maki said furiously. But her voice was different, not like Maki's at all, but a voice of an old woman, a shrieking voice, and she sounded very angry. "How dare you interrupt during my ritual!?"
Eiffel came to help Grate get loose, but she kicked him, sending him to a wall again. She was choking Grate with all her might like she was about to kill him. Eiffel understood that it wasn't Maki doing it, but something else controlling her.
"Give it back!!!", Maki was screaming to Grate to return her toe tag, but he was stubborn enough to not let go of it.
Eiffel was thinking about what could be done to stop her from going frenzy, then all of a sudden he got an idea. He took out his sacred water bottle and then splashed her a couple of times. Maki was shrieking in agony like it was burning her, she let go of Grate, hit the bed, and returned to being dead. With a mixture of exhilaration and guilt tugging at their conscience, they knew their time in the morgue was limited. Every second spent in this forbidden space heightened the risk of discovery. So, with a final glance at the somber tableau before them, they made their silent retreat, carrying with them the weight of an experience that would forever be etched in their memory. They ran as far as possible from the morgue. As they were running, one woman in a hood was watching them from the morgue's rooftop. She looked like some sort of witch.
Eiffel and Grate ran far away from the morgue, they were exhausted, and they lay down on the ground while catching their breath.
"What just happened back there!?", Grate panted. Then he got up and said, "I need to take a piss." Eiffel joined him as well.
And as they were taking a bathroom break in the woods, they were having a drunken silly conversation.
Eiffel: Okay, I think we've tortured the dead enough for one night. Let's stumble our way back to civilization before we end up joining the dead prematurely. Dude, we should get the hell out of here before we become an urban legend for future generations!
Grate: Agreed! I don't want to become another addition to the morgue's collection.
Eiffel: Ghostbusters, man! We need some Ghostbusters!
Grate: *raises his imaginary beer can* Here's to us for making poor life choices and our unconventional adventures and the memories that will haunt us forever! Cheers!
Eiffel: *raises his imaginary beer can as well and clinks it against Grate's hand* Cheers, buddy! Let's stumble away from here and find a less eerie place to continue our drunken escapades!
Then both friends zipped up, turned around, and screamed their lungs out upon seeing someone. It was Marquis Roosevelt standing right in front of them.
"What the hell were you two doing back there!?", Marquis asked strongly.
"Back where?", Grate asked as he was trying to play dumb.
Marquis grabbed his collar tightly and told, "Don't play fool with me. You exactly know what I'm talking about."
"Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Easy there, buddy.", said Eiffel as he separated the two of them. "Don't fight your own friend."
"Then you tell me what were you doing back there. I believe you are the mastermind behind all this.", Marquis confronted Eiffel.
"Me? A Mastermind?", Eiffel chuckled. "Let's get honest around here, shall we? We, I mean me and Grate, are here to play a college game. One week-long time and 12 tasks were given. One of those tasks is to steal a toe tag from the morgue."
"You what!?", Marquis barked.
"Hang on. Cool down. Let me finish. What I'm about to say is what I think you need to know. We were here only for a toe tag, but what mystery that was unfolded right before our very eyes was very unexpecting and astonishing for both of us.", said Eiffel. Then he unveiled the Maki situation from the start, which began in college, to finish, which was recently revealed in the morgue, to Marquis.
Marquis seemed to understand the situation, and thus commented, "Hmm... This is a very sensitive and important information. It will help me and my team to further investigate this case."
Then he grabbed Eiffel's collar and strongly told him, "Listen, you punk! I've been telling you to stay out of trouble for a long time now. Where there is trouble, there is always you. Wherever I go, you always get involved in the situation. So, I'm telling you this for the very last time. Stay out of trouble. Don't get deeply into any investigation on any case on your own. If you find a clue or something, at least inform me. You must not forget the last time you got yourself into a deep investigation. It cost valuable lives. Don't forget Helveltica and all. Stop yourself by any means necessary. Got it?"
Eiffel was silent. Marquis let go of his collar and said, "Now, you two. Go back home. I don't want to see you two around here ever again, got it? ...Now, go."
Eiffel smiled and said, "You can tell people whatever you want and do whatever you want. I do whatever I want whenever I want. No friends tell no other friends what to do... So don't play cop around me, Scorch...", then said to Grate, "Let's go.", then continued to Marquis, "Arrest me next time if you still want to play cop." Then he and Grate left.
Blood Games.
Day 2.
The End.
