Chapter seven: The second trial (I)

Slowly everyone noticed Olivia’s appearance. Five pairs of eyes turned towards her, filled with disbelief, joy, praise and so on.

Suddenly a happy shout left the goblin girl’s mouth as she bounced towards Olivia. She cutely grabbed the grandma’s hand in her tiny hands as her wide eyes looked upwards.

“I knew you could do it! You were so cool, granny!”

“Haha. Good child, good child.”

Olivia was happy as she felt the surprisingly smooth hands of the cute little girl. Still holding the plate of cookies with one hand, she lowered it slightly.

“Here, take a cookie as long as they are still warm.”

“Yay!”

Tarun’gra’s hand shot forward. Almost as if fearing that the cookies would vanish any second, she snatched one and stuffed it into her mouth.

Looking at the cute girl’s protruding cheeks, all three grandmas laughed endearingly.

Martina and Dongmei stood next to Olivia. While praising her for her performance they shamelessly took two cookies each. While savoring one, they held the other towards Tarun’gra. Looking at the offered cookies the goblin girl hesitated slightly. After a moment she had seemingly made up her mind.

Tarun’gra took the cookies. While stuffing one into her mouth the young girl turned around and walked towards the high priest. The elderly goblin watched with a benevolent smile as Tarun’gra came closer and offered her a single cookie.

“Thif if fou you!”

Trying to hide her obvious joy the high priest smiled gently as she patted Tarun’gra’s head.

Next to them his majesty emperor of goblins, conqueror of the blue sun, technological genius, pioneer of magic, the great Zotrahn’gra watched their interaction in envy.

Everyone looked happy but he was the only one suffering from a headache. This trial was a total chaos. How could the rock giant brake out in tears? Why would this count as a victory? And most importantly:

Why wasn’t his daughter offering him a cookie?

With an annoyed expression Zotrahn’gra coughed quietly. He tried to get his daughter’s attention, but everyone was conversing happily, not caring about the emperor.

Zotrahn’gra’s eyebrow spasmed slightly as he coughed a bit louder.

Finally, everyone but Martina turned towards him.

Trying to hide his embarrassment Zotrahn’gra put on an ugly smile.

“Tarun’gra, my sweet daughter. Haven’t you forgotten something?”

Large, cute eyes blinked at him.

“What should I have forgotten? I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Didn’t you want to bring your dad a cookie, too?”

“No?”

Zotrahn’gra gnashed his teeth.

“Why would you bring the high priest a cookie, but not your dad?”

While the emperor received an angry glare from the high priest, the young girl pouted.

“You will only get I cookie if I get my Slowmoinator!”

Hearing this, Zotrahn’gra didn’t know how to argue. This was indeed his mistake. He let his daughter’s invention fall, leaving it behind in the trial hall. Just as he tried to speak some comforting words, a golden light rapidly shot towards their bubble.

Zotrahn’gra eyes lit up. His subordinate was right on que.

A second later another goblin kneeled before the emperor. In presence of his subject Zotrahn’gra didn’t show any of his earlier struggles. His eyes were sharp and his chest proud. He looked intimidating.

The newly arrived goblin had his head lowered. Only after Zotrahn’gra loudly ordered “Move!”, did his subject present the device in his hand.

Before her father could talk, Tarun’gra clapped happily.

“My Slowmoinator!”

Snatching the mechanic, gun-like device from the goblin’s hand, Tarun’gra hugged it closely.

Observing his daughter’s actions Zotrahn’gra could only let out a defeated sigh. Everyone knew how much he adored his daughter anyways, so even if this scene spread it didn’t matter anymore.

While Tarun’gra skipped over towards Olivia, the emperor signaled his subject. Warily eyeing the high priest he lowered his head, letting the goblin whisper into his ear.

After listening to his subject’s massage, the emperor was slightly confused. Looking at the goblin again for confirmation, Zotrahn’gra received a nod. It seemed the strange information was true.

After contemplating for a second Zotrahn’gra noticed the cookie his daughter was taking from Olivia. His eyes lit up as he sent away his subject.

“Good work this time. Go to the palace administration and get yourself a promotion!”

With those words the emperor waved his scepter lightly. The dumbstruck subject vanished immediately.

As soon as the goblin disappeared, Tarun’gra ran over to her father. She held out her hand. The delicious smell of a cookie entered the emperor’s nose.

He was elated as he took it from his daughter and patted her head.

Just as he took the first bite Zotrahn’gra noticed the high priest eyeing him in suspicion. He looked around in embarrassment, not wanting to endure the old goblin’s gaze.

Noticing the emperor’s evasive behavior, the high priest’s guess only solidified. A wooden stick once again landed on Zotrahn’gra’s head.

“Ah! What was that for?!”

“Be honest! Did you gather information about earth only now?”

“I… I was busy.”, answered the emperor meekly.

The high priest looked between father and daughter, her temper mildening slightly.

“Just make sure the second trial will be more suitable!”

“I’m on it.”

Not wanting to give the high priest any more time to nag, Zotrahn’gra waved his scepter again. Suddenly the whole bubble vanished. Silence returned to the frozen plains.

The exact opposite could be said for the huge jungle somewhere on another world. Exited roars and shouts of all kinds of animals filled the air here.

Families of monkeys jumped among treetops. Dangerous predators were chasing their prey on the ground. Various fishes were swimming through overgrown lakes and rivers.

From afar this place closely resemble a jungle from earth. Only upon taking a closer look might one spot a few differences.

Suddenly a golden light flashed. The three heroes from earth arrived.
