CHAPTER 3: Mission 1: Extraction on Fenrir III

As Atlas Piper and Fenix Zograd ventured toward the looming hive, their weapons at the ready, the atmosphere around them grew increasingly tense. The air, already thick with an otherworldly stillness, became tinged with an alien scent. The source of their unease soon became apparent – the yellow pillow-like plants that dotted the landscape were emitting odd gases, dispersing them into the desolate air.

Atlas squinted, his eyes narrowing at the peculiar flora. "Fenix, something's off about those plants. Look at the gases they're releasing; we need to be careful."

Fenix nodded, his weapon held in a poised grip. "Agreed, Atlas. Those gases don't seem like something we want to breathe in. Let's give them a wide berth."

As they continued their trek towards the hive, they maneuvered carefully, strategically avoiding the path of the noxious gases. The wind carried the unsettling scent, a constant reminder of the alien nature of Fenrir III. The yellow plants, their vibrant hue now a warning, seemed to pulsate with an eerie energy.

"Stay vigilant, Fenix," Atlas cautioned, his eyes darting between the hazardous plants and the approaching hive. "We can't afford any missteps in this place."

Fenix responded with a nod, his senses heightened as they moved through the alien landscape. The gases, though strange and potentially dangerous, were just another obstacle to overcome in the pursuit of their mission.

As the SES Lord of Vigilance hovered in the distant sky, Atlas and Fenix pressed on, acutely aware of the ever-present threat. The yellow pillow-like plants continued their ominous release of gases, a silent warning that Fenrir III was a realm where danger lurked in every corner. With weapons at the ready and nerves on edge, they advanced towards the hive, determined to face whatever challenges the alien world threw at them.

Approaching the hive, Atlas Piper and Fenix Zograd observed the eerie scene unfolding before them. The hive loomed large, casting a shadow that seemed to swallow the feeble light that dared to touch its surface. The air hummed with an alien energy, and as they neared, the unmistakable sounds of small terminids hopping about became more pronounced.

Atlas motioned for Fenix to stay low as they crouched behind a large, weathered boulder, peering cautiously into the hive's entrance. Small terminids, the warriors of this otherworldly realm, hopped about with an unsettling agility, their movements almost surreal. It was a strange dance, both fascinating and disconcerting.

As they observed, Atlas spoke in a hushed tone, "Fenix, these little ones, they're the warriors. But look closely; there are different types. Those smaller ones seem to be the scavengers."

Fenix squinted, studying the creatures within the hive. "Warriors and scavengers, huh? We need to be cautious. And remember, there's a third type, the hive guards. They're larger and more formidable."

Atlas nodded, recalling the data from their boot camp training. "Exactly. The hive guards are the big ones, and they're the last line of defense for the hive. Our intel mentioned their roles, but seeing them in action is a whole different story."

The hive guards, their presence more pronounced, patrolled the perimeter with a measured vigilance. Each type of terminid seemed to fulfill a specific role within the hive, an intricate balance of nature adapted to the harsh realities of Fenrir III.

"They've got different purposes, but we'll need to proceed cautiously," Fenix whispered, his eyes fixed on the hive guards.

"Agreed," Atlas replied, a sense of determination in his voice. "Let's gather as much information as we can before deciding our next move. Knowing the roles of these terminids might give us the upper hand."

As they continued to observe the hive's inhabitants, Atlas and Fenix knew that their success in this mission hinged on their ability to navigate the complex dynamics of the terminid hive.

“Actually, fuck it! FOR DEMOCRACY!” Fenix yelled while throwing two grenades at the large pool of terminids in the center.

“Fenix what the FUCK! NO!” Atlas yelled.

*BOOM* *BOOM*

*SCREEEEEEECH*

All hell broke loose as maybe about thirty terminid bodies soared across the hive in various body parts while their oddly colored blood painted the ground beneath them. This actually opened up room for them to let loose on the hive guards, since the five that had existed there managed to survive the blasts of the two grenades. At this moment, Atlas saw it, he could see two cave entrances that the terminids were crawling out of.

“Fenix, look, we just need to kill these five hive guards, and we need to blow those cave entrances up, remember, we NEED to use our grenades on those, so save them.” Atlas said while grabbing Fenix’s shoulder, grabbing his complete attention. Fenix nodded with almost a sinister smile on his face. He took the idea of democracy and freedom very seriously.

The hive guards turned their attention to the sound of them talking, Atlas took one good look at their terrifying stature and presence. They had to play this right.
