Chapter 22: Relics?

Chapter 22: Relics?

"In short you want to say that I am the prince of Eblistan?" I asked Cairo

"Does my proof falter in any way?" Cairo inquired

I was still struggling to come to terms with the idea. "But how? Why me?" I asked,

"Don't worry, that's the normal reaction," Cairo reassured me. "Oh right, also your esper abilities. The Lahajmudin dynasty is an esper dynasty, and most of its members possess such abilities. That explains where you get those powers from."

I couldn't deny the logic behind his proofs. It was true, but it was also challenging to believe.

"Also, Marco too decided to go to Eblistan, maybe the ship was destroyed so that we can be stranded on the island an you can finally reach Eblistan"

I found a spot to sit down and began to run through all the events that had led to this moment, corresponding them with the evidence Cairo had provided and I reached to a conclusion.

I couldn't help but feel a sense of grand destiny at Cairo's words, and I struck a dramatic pose. "That means I am destined to be great," I declared.

"Now, don't get too far ahead of yourself. There's more for us to find now."

As Cairo spoke, both of us suddenly heard a voice in our minds. "Very well, mortal! So, you've deduced my scheme."

Alarmed, I activated my perucolysis, my hands crackling with energy. "Who's there?" I demanded.

The voice continued, "Now, now, I am really far away. I am communicating with you through the ability, what do those espers call it? Ah, telepathy. So, just a short note, don't speak of this to anyone. You can conduct your observations and investigations, but if you become too clever, I'll literally throw the sun at your little planet. I'm not joking. I saved you from Bahamut, so just escape the island, I suppose." With that warning, the voice fell silent.

Cairo and I spoke excitedly as we connected the pieces of this challenging puzzle.

"It was—""Yeah, it was the third person!" Cairo chimed in."He said he'll throw the sun at us, meaning he's someone who lives beyond the sky?" I made a guess.

"Possibly bluffing, but it's the truth. It was the result of my deductions, which even compelled him to come forward." Cairo clarified.I admired Cairo and said,

"You're awesome." We were jumping around like little kids from excitement that we couldn't control. But as soon as we realized the seriousness of the situation, we became serious.

Cairo suggested, "Let's keep this between us and not discuss it with Marco or Deniz. We should observe the situation. It's almost certain that he intends to guide us to Eblistan, but we must remain vigilant nonetheless."

I concurred with Cairo's decision, and asked "Still how you know so much history about me and Eblistan!"

Cairo answered, "Because since the day you came, I knew you were special so I just came to know about lajahmuddins, and from then on my research continued."

and as we continued to walk, we stumbled upon a banana tree quite easily.

"See, that's a sign," Cairo approached the tree, examining its quality, and remarked, "It looks good. Perhaps the third person intends to fasten our journey back to Eblistan."

"Considering his tone, it seems like he has ulterior motives," I remarked.

Cairo pondered the thought and said, "You might be right. Let me think. If you reach Eblistan, we need to make it to Astareen. But if they recognize you as the prince, what does he stand to gain?"

I considered the options, "Gold, money, or some secret documents."

Cairo's eyes widened, "Hold on, the Eblistan Empire is rumored to possess Divine relics, and there are whispers about a formidable arsenal of weapons from another world. I never thought that the third person might be after these rumored weapons. That's a possibility."

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

"Have these weapons been used before?" I questioned Cairo as I tore a banana from the tree and started to eat.

Cairo nodded, "Yeah, the most noteworthy incident occurred in history when the present-day Lahajmuddin family attacked the ancient Lahaj territory as a foreign tribe. They were aided by the Eblistan Empire, which is said to have shot an enormous projectile. There are rumors that when the projectile hit the water, a massive wave that reached the clouds was caused."

I thought to myself as I finished my banana and threw away the peel, "Wow, that's incredible power Eblistan possesses, yet they face bullying from the Imperial Legion."

Cairo went on, "In actuality, this incident happened about the year 600. Even the Arabian desert experienced a tsunami, which created a huge puddle of water. According to some newspapers, the puddle is still there, but it can't be reached since Lahaj and Eblistan erected borders that keep people from crossing into the Arabian desert."

"Ah, border huh? well, that would be troublesome in reaching Italy." I showed my concern

Cairo, however, dismissed my worries, saying, "Are you daft? This powerful individual from above the sky is guiding us to Eblistan. Once we're there, we can take a breather."

As he spoke, Cairo was gathering banana stalks, but something unexpected happened. By mistake, he trod on the banana peel. I felt my heart fall when I watched him stumble.

The symbolism of his unintentional slip on the banana peel intrigued me. Is this another message, Cairo lost his balance and fell into a hollowed-out tree, which I observed with fear.

"No, Cairo!" I cried out, sprinting to the edge of the pit and shouting his name. "Cairo, are you alright? Can you hear me?"

There was a minute of unsettling silence. Was he injured? Was he not breathing? After what seemed like an eternity, however, Cairo's voice could be heard from the pit's bottom: "Come down, you should see this."

"You mean, I should slide down there?" I yelled nervously. The echo of Cairo's voice said, "Yes!" I made my way down the smooth, dark secret slide. I eventually arrived at a large hall. Cairo reached out to assist me in getting back up on my feet.

The scene in the hall was breathtaking. Lanterns mounted on soaring marble pillars that surrounded the room gave it a warm, abstract glow. Intricate carvings on the pillars depicted historical events from a bygone civilization.

I was amazed as my eyes grew wide as I looked around. A stunning display of gold coins in the shapes of intricate patterns and artwork covered the walls. Four enormous pillars that spanned to the ceiling in the middle of the grand hall each supported a raised platform made of polished marble with four chests there.

" Aries, use your powers to open that glass case," Cairo suggested.

"How did you know about my abilities?"

"Deniz mentioned it. But be careful, Aries. It might be a trap,"

I cautioned, my eyes fixated on the mysterious glass case at the center of the hall.

I concentrated my power, directed my arms toward the glass display case, and knelt down to steady the energy in my right arm. I made a surge of energy at the tips of my fingers as I carefully targeted. I quickly released the energy lance, and it shattered the glass case after piercing it. Two things came flying out.

"It's a sign as well!" Deniz's voice rang in my head.

"Yeah," I responded, my senses on high alert. While it seemed unlikely in this magical chamber, I used my perucolysis skills to scan the area for any hidden dangers.

We moved cautiously, putting a light foot on each floor tile to make sure there were no traps. When we got to the middle platform, we started gathering the things that had fallen out of the glass case. They appeared to be forearm guards with three strings attached to them and a circular part on them with a rope around them. When I put on the guard, nothing happened.

"What is it?" When Cairo put on the forearm guards, I questioned him. Like me, he appeared perplexed. "I don't know, it doesn't work for me either."

We continued to look around the mysterious room, drawn in by the peculiar setting. Although the coins on the walls were clearly real, we were puzzled by the strange carvings. Even more, coins were waiting for us inside the chests, but we had no idea what was the use of the forearm guards.

Despite the mystery, we decided to fill our pockets with the coins. While I was engrossed in collecting the treasures, Cairo called out to me, "I found a way to activate it,"
