Thor's regret

Thor's regret

"Wait, I have questions," Erik Selvig called out, then stepped back, surprised to find he no longer stood on top of Stark Tower but in the center of a large meeting room.

"So do I, Doctor," Nicholas Joseph Fury, Director of SHIELD, commented, sounding more tired than surprised.

Besides Fury and his agents, several others sat at a table, including Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, Tony Stark, Natasha Romanova, and the god of thunder.

"Thor!" The astrophysicist shouted, ignoring the guns that were pointed at him. "Your brother has the Tesseract."

But the lack of reaction from the group to the statement came as a surprise.

"Come sit, Doctor," The large blond hair Asgardian made a space, then asked, "Does Loki possess it or my niece's betrothed?"

"Was that really your niece? I mean, she introduced herself as Hel, Queen of Niflheim."

"Indeed, she is my brother's daughter with the giantess Angrboða."

"Oh, I see," the Doctor said, not sounding convinced. It was hard to believe that his grandmother's stories were true. "The person she called Haraldur took possession of the Tesseract."

At that moment, Agent Phillip J. Coulson entered the room, followed by a confused and exhausted-looking Clinton Francis "Clint" Barton, also known as Hawkeye.

While one part of Harry Potter, Master of Death, listened to the meeting on the SHIELD Helicarrier, another traveled with Hel to Asgard for lunch, and a third part of many strolled down a New York street.

Dividing any number with infinity just gives you infinity, as one famous Death explained to a confused mortal. Harry had found it disconcerting for a millisecond as the weight of his new job settled on his shoulders. Useful though.

After appearing in the middle of London, some homeless-looking old guy explained to him about the current troubles in this universe. Harry had no problems helping a guy out. He seemed a decent enough bloke but didn't realize that the title Master of Death meant just that. Cleaning up after his wayward subordinate's mess was just part of the whole ferrying souls to the afterlife.

"What is she up to?" Harry sighed and found Lady Death in another part of the galaxy, sharing a drink and flirting with a human and his raccoon wingman. Why couldn't she be more like her brother, Oblivion? At least he tends to stay in his own little pocket dimension.

However, right now, he couldn't help but be a little annoyed when a glowing green entity joined him on his walk.

The eldritch abomination slowly took the form of Voldemort, the one from the graveyard before it said, "Such a waste, working for another old man who believes in the 'Greater Good.'"

Harry laughed, "Are you seriously trying to compare your counterpart to Albus Dumbledore."

The glowing green Voldemort gave him a sad smile. "Eventually, you will realize that true power comes from embracing your very nature. Don't worry. We'll talk again."

"Why must all Dark Lords sound the same," the Master of Death sighed as the cosmic entity vanished before knocking on the door at 177A Bleecker Street.

"Why don't you put a kettle on? Your master and I need to have a little talk," Harry explained, walking past a shocked attendant and entering the Sanctum Sanctorum.

Thor, the god of thunder, tried not to appear as if he had better things to do. As far as he was concerned, his job was done with his brother's abduction and the disappearance of the Tesseract. More importantly, his parents needed to be informed of their granddaughter's impending nuptials.

"I'm sorry, what was that again?" He might have been paying close attention, so he thought he misunderstood the absurd question.

Fury frowned. "I asked if you thought that this Haraldur worked for Loki?"

Thor just stared, then chuckled. "No, I believe my niece wanted to introduce him to her father. Whatever plans Loki might have made, Haraldur was not part of them."

"I never met this Haraldur," Hawkeye said, then asked. "Do you have a description?"

"You've met him, Clint," Natasha whispered.

"I have?"

The room went silent, then Agent Coulson replied, "According to witnesses, he seemed familiar, but only Agent Sanders and Thomas could describe him. A tall man, dressed in shadows, with a thin face, black hair, and glowing green eyes. Agent Thomas thought he remembered a faded scar over his right eye."

Thor nodded in understanding. "You will find that both Agents had a close brush with death or were perhaps even declared dead."

Coulson frowned. "I can confirm that Thomas fell through some thin ice when she was a teenager. She was dead for some twelve minutes."

"You mean this Haraldur is Death? Like the Grim Reaper himself?"

"Well, if you think about it, Tony. "Bruce Banner began. "He is the goddess of Death's boyfriend, right. It makes sense, and my other half wanted nothing to do with him."

Clint looked at the Black Widow and mouthed, 'Death.' Natasha nodded in reply.

"Aren't you concerned for your brother?" Steve Rogers asked.

Thor smiled, "No, I am sure Loki is quite safe with his daughter. Although from the conversation in the hallway, I am guessing he might not be necessarily looking forward to meeting with his wife."

"So, this person appeared in a heavily guarded area and broke your brother out of prison so they could have a family meal together?" Fury stared at the god of thunder in incredulity.

"Although the wedding will unlikely be held on Asgard, the news of Hel's betrothal will be a momentous occasion no matter who she is planning to marry. My mother will be beside herself thinking of grandchildren," Tor said with a chuckle.

"Grandchildren?"

"With Death?"

The god of thunder looked at both Captain America and Ironman and said, "Indeed."

"I don't care who he thinks he is," Fury growled, slamming his hand on the table. "He cannot be allowed to simply walk in here, grab both the staff and Loki and simply walk out."

"I think he already did that, Fury," Tony grinned.

"What about the Tesseract?" The Black Widow asked.

"It's beyond your mortal's reach now, beyond Asgard's as well," Thor said.

"It's a powerful artifact and shouldn't be in the hands of someone who thinks he's Death."

"And who's hands should it be in, Fury? Yours?" Stark asked, then said, "I think if this Haraldur can keep it safe, then good for him."

Clint frowned, "What about Loki?"

"I think Hell is out of SHIELD's jurisdiction," Banner replied.

"I doubt my brother will come away unscathed," Thor explained. "He will still need to come to judgment before our father for his crimes."

"Maybe Haraldur can put a good word in for him," Captain America said.

Everyone in the room gave him a funny look.

"What, Loki is going to be this guy's father-in-law, right?"

"So, we do nothing?"

Thor sighed, "If you are fortunate, Fury, you will not attract his eye further. The powers that you tried to possess are beyond your comprehension. Be thankful that he decided to intercede on your behalf."

Those who had met the shadowy figure all agreed.

However, the god of thunder finally had enough of Fury's paranoia and decided to spend time with his own girlfriend before heading back to Asgard.
