After acquiring [Corrupt Resistance] I noticed some profound changes in my body.
Firstly, and most importantly I can not eat smaller creatures like Raptillians and Picklows without any discomfort.
I am assuming by the name that the poison I have been consuming is some kind of corruption and that all these creatures possess this corruption to some capacity.
The next thing I noticed happened after I acquired the skill, the next time that I ate Raptillian meat.
Somehow, I acquired a trait from the Raptillian and my skin became harder, like I had scales for skin. Heck, my skin even looked scalier than it did before.
It was at this point that I decided to take a closer look at my new ability.
[Corrupt Resistance]^
[Level 1]
[Exp: 31/10000]
[Corrupt Resistance: you have developed an immunity to the corruption in the universe by consuming it. Consuming stronger corruption strengthens your immunity. Devouring a creature of corruption temporarily gives you minor attributes of that creature]
It didn’t take long for me to understand the reason for my scaly skin.
I had acquired the minor trait of the Raptillian I ate which seems to be a minor defence boost.
I am grateful it is only temporary otherwise what would I look like after a few more months of eat these things…
The last thing that I noticed is that creatures that do not cause me discomfort to consume, do not contribute to this abilities experience. Therefore, I can only improve this ability by poisoning myself more…
Honestly not too keen on doing that again just yet.
Moving on, a new day has begun, and the sun has just peaked over the horizon.
Today is the day that I have decided to investigate something that I noticed a while back.
During one of my hunts, I had climbed an old hotel to get a view over the city. I wanted to take note of the destroyed parts of the city and if there was anywhere to dangerous for me to venture.
As I was surveying the land and drawing a dodgy map in an old notebook I found, I noticed something shining a few kilometres away inside a destroyed building.
At the time I decided not to risk exploring it because my body still felt weak due to the corruption I was consuming, however, that’s a different story now.

I am currently stronger than I have ever been and also in peak condition as I haven’t consumed any stronger corruption the last few days.
As such, I made my way to the place I marked on my makeshift map.
Over the last month, weaker creatures learnt that this area was my territory, so I rarely find any around the library. However, the area I am heading to belongs to something else, so I am expecting a fight today.
I’ve learnt that creatures like Wailers enjoy open areas and travel around a lot. From observing how they travel through the city in specific ways over the last months, I have determined that there are areas in the city they avoid at all costs.
My library is one of these areas.
An old swimming complex is another of these areas. After I realised this, I tried observing the area from far away but I didn’t notice anything strange.
An old school is another of these places. This time when I observed the place, I could see these humanoid creatures that are about 4 feet tall and have massive eyes. There were hundreds of them at the school so assumed that was their territory.
The last area I noticed was also the largest. It centralises on an old foot ball field the territory expands by a massive amount. I didn’t have to look hard to find the source either. The massive creature that I saw on the first day I was here was sleeping on the football field. It was taking up the entire place easily with its enormous body.
My guess is that it only wakes up when it’s hungry or if anything gets to close to its territory.
There are other noteworthy territories as well, however, these 3 are the only ones that I will have to avoid on my way to that light.
It didn’t take long for me to leave the area I marked as the end of my territory.
As I moved in the direction of the unknown light kept to cover as much as possible and climbed buildings rather than go through them if necessary.
I didn’t want to attract attention to myself before I even got there.
BANG! RUMBLE!
On the way there, as I was passing the swimming complex, which was the first territory on the way, I suddenly saw the wall of the complex get destroyed as a black object flew out of the complex.
The object rolled when it landed before getting back up again. As it returned to it’s full height it open its wide maw and screamed. I couldn’t hear it scream but I could see the air respond to it’s cry and could feel tingles on my skin.
It was a Wailer.
But…
Why did a Wailer come flying out of the swimming complex. I know they avoid the place like it’s the plague.
Shortly after the Wailer cried, I saw another being leave the complex. However, this time the being just walked out of the destroyed wall in a casual manner.
It was…
Human…?
The figure that was casually walking at the Wailer looked like a human… but… it also didn’t.
It had all the features of a human except for two important distinguishing features. Its skin was light purple, and it had two short horns protruding from its forehead.
It was…
A corrupt human?
Or something that resembles a human closely?
I couldn’t wrap my head around what I was seeing but before I could even think it through properly I heard
“You are a dumb bug aren’t you”
…
…
…
I heard it speak…
But I can’t hear…
It was like it resounded directly in my head.
Hell, I didn’t even see its mouth move.
And its voice… it was cold.
So cold. Like its voice alone could freeze the world.
As I watched the corrupt humanoid with a dazed expression on my face, the Wailer suddenly screamed again before charging at the humanoid.
“Ridiculous”, it said.
The humanoid raised its right hand slowly before it quickly flicked its wrist.
Before the Wailer could even get close enough to attack it was sent flying hundreds of meters away into the nearby buildings.
The scene shook me from my daze.
Thankfully I was far enough away that even if it was sent in my direction it still wouldn’t hit me but before I could sigh in relief…
“So… how long are you going to watch from a far”
The voice resounded in my head again and this time I froze in fear.
Slowly my head turned from where the Wailer went flying, back to the humanoid.
And when I did, our eyes met.
The humanoid was staring straight at me.
