*Near the border between the soldiers and zombies*
————————————
Bullets were raining down from every direction which was destroying the area around the base. The base where soldiers and the civilians were taking cover was big enough for a few refugees to stay in.
No matter how many times the zombies were shot, they still weren't going down. Even though the situation was getting worse, the soldiers still didn't hesitate to escape and leave all of the people on the fate's mercy.
Some of the zombies were getting absurdly close to a certain part of the base and it was a matter of time before they broke inside.
[ We need back up here!! ]
One of the soldiers called out to the other soldiers while trying not to lose focus on what was coming in front of him.
[ TAKE COVER!! MISSILE INCOMING!! ]
There was no time to think about the situation in this place. The only thing a soldier should do, is to act really fast before something goes wrong.
All of the soldiers that were near the targeted area layed on the ground and covered their own heads as they were waiting for the missle to land over the zombies.
*Booom!!*
The missile wasn’t powerful enough to destroy the whole territory but it was enough to burn up most of the zombies who were about to break inside the base.
But things didn't end there…
Thanks to the missle, most of the traps and the razor wires that surround the base were mostly gone.
[ Everyone, get ready!! More are coming! ]
The soldiers continued pulling the triggers on their guns as they were trying to reduce the number of infected people who were coming up once again.
No matter how many times they were shot down, they would get up again and even more in number than before.
The situation was getting more dangerous, and everyone knew that the moment the zombies would pass through that border, it would be all over.
The innocent children and their mothers covering their bodies was the thing that gave enough strength to the soldiers to keep fighting.
[ Reloading!! Cover me! ]
A soldier started shooting continuously while his comrade was trying to reload his weapon as fast as he could.
One of the soldiers rushed inside a tent really fast and without even catching his breath, he shouted.
[ We won't be able to keep this up anymore! Is there any response from the Sakuru force?! ]
The noises of the weapons were really loud that caused everyone to talk louder.
Inside this room were three people with the same kind of uniform who were typing something on their laptops. The way they were typing was really fast and it was easy to tell that they were all stressed.
At the centre of the tent was someone with a different clothing who was holding a radio for communication. Even though everyone was trying not to freak out, the calmest one was this man holding the radio in his hand. But he didn't seem to be responding to the soldier calling out to him.
[ Sir! All of the refugees are going to die if we don't do something!!!!! ]
The soldier tried getting his attention once again but the man still did not respond. He gripped his radio on his hand while looking at the soldier.
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
[ Sir! The situation is really ba-- ]
But as the man breathed in with all its might, then he finally responded.
[ SHUT UP!! ]
The radio on his hand broke into pieces as he yelled at the soldier. All of the other guys who were typing on their laptops also stopped typing from his loud voice.
[ B-but sir! ]
The soldier tried telling the man once again about the situation.
[ I told you to be quiet! ]
But the man didn't seem to want to know what he had to say.
[ Sir, everyone will die if backup doesn't come! ]
Cold sweat was running down his face while his heart was beating continuously as he tried talking to the man once again.
[ THERE WON'T BE ANY HELP COMING FOR US!! ]
The man shouted as veins popped on his arms.
[ W-what do you mean?! ]
The soldier asked as his eyes became smaller from the words that the man said. Even everyone else in the room was shocked by that. One of them gulped his saliva while his breathing was getting faster.
[ Sakuru main force isn't responding to us… ]
The man’s voice became quieter as if he had given up on everything. But this kind of response wasn't going to fix everything for everyone else.
[ Then s-sir, what do we do?! ]
The soldier desperately asked the commander. His hands were shaking a little, but the soldier didn't want to give up yet. He didn't want to die yet without experiencing the rest of his life.
Having a lover, kids, a family, then dying happy surrounded by his loved ones. That's what made the young soldier keep fighting for his life and all of his friends that were trying to stay alive.
[ I… I don't know… ]
The soldier grabbed a gun in the room and rushed outside when he heard those words coming from the general. The general had given up but the soldier hadn’t. The soldier got into position and started shooting with his gun at the zombies.
[ Joy! We are running out of ammo! How long until help comes!? ]
The nearest soldier asked the young soldier who had come back from the tent.
[ No help is coming for us ] ( Joy )
The young soldier calmly responded to him. But his face showed anger as he kept pulling the trigger.
[ I see… ]
And his comrade, who was waiting for a positive response, responded with the same kind of reaction. Then he grabbed his radio that connected to every soldier in that territory and shouted.
[ EVERYONE! KEEP FIGHTING! HELP IS COMING FOR US IN A BIT! JUST FIGHT FOR A BIT LONGER! WE WILL WIN! ]
Joy was surprised by the words of his comrade, and he wasn't sure what to say.
[ Even though everyone is going to die. I don't want everyone to lose hope just yet! That's why…
Keep shooting Joy! Keep fighting! For everyone! For our lives! ]
Joy didn't say any word back at him. He only gripped his teeth as he kept shooting at the zombies who were more in numbers than before.
If death flags were a physical thing in this world, then everyone in here would have one on their faces.
Some were prepared to die and some didn't want to think about dying, but little did they know that “life” would give them a second chance.
*Booom* *BOOM*
Hundreds meters away from the base could be heard a lot of explosions that blew all of the zombies away. The ground shook a little as the infected were being blown apart.
[ What is happening?! Didn't we run out of explosive devices?! ]
One of the soldiers asked for information on his radio.
[ That wasn't us! We already used the last missile! ]
The soldiers on the radio responded.
[ Then what was it?! ]
Everyone was confused on what were the explosions who were blowing the zombies into pieces. But most of the soldiers were happy because they thought that the explosions were coming from the Sakuru force.
In a few minutes, the number of zombies went down as the explosions stopped. Then suddenly a green light flew around at an insane speed. Even the most trained soldiers couldn't see what was happening to all of the zombies. All of the infected were being cut apart so fast that they couldn't even manage to get up again.
[ What is that thing?! ]
One of the soldiers from the back asked on the radio.
[ I have no clear view, that thing is too fast! ]
To everyone’s eyes, that looked like a green blurry thing that was moving too fast.
In no time, all of the zombies were dropping down as the green blurry thing was rising in numbers. It looked like it was multiplying in number and slicing all of the zombies near them.
[ it's killing the zombies! ]
[ W-we are saved! ]
[ Everyone support the green thing! ]
The soldiers celebrated as they continued shooting the zombies.
It was killing the zombies really quick and surprisingly easy.
But what was that thing? Was it actually saving everyone from the zombies, or was it actually a greater threat to them?
