Being born was one of those experiences Jack would rather never have to talk about ever again. What followed after was also something best left forgotten, as humiliation has no other name than shitting oneself without control.
Regardless, Jack spent his free time, which was arguably all his time, mulling over his life and not-life. To be honest, his memories and feelings were somewhat messed up, as there were a ton of details from his previous life that he simply could not for the life of his remember.
This made him honestly wonder if Manager hadn't fucked with his memories, which, while terrible, didn't actually upset Jack as much as he thought it would. Again, his feelings and thoughts were still a bit fucked over.
Anyways, Jack's parents, or rather, parent, didn't seem to be in such a bad position as the Manager had described. He'd onl seen his mom so far, and only her. She often left him alone for long periods of time, coming back visibly exhausted, with barely the energy to breast-feed him and then fall asleep instantly.
Despite his baby-mind urging him to scream and make as much noise as his little body could, Jack's more rational mind just told him to shut the fuck up and to not make more trouble for the woman. He lived in a small room and had never seen the outside, but his mom didn't seem malnourished at least, even if she did seem overworked.
This continued for several months, until Jack's mom abruptly took him one day and brought him outside the walls that had confined him for this entire life. During the night. While wearing a black cape.
Understandably, Jack had thought he was about to die when he saw someone dressed like that sneaking into his room, but luckily, it was easy enough to recognize his own mother based on height and whatever little skin she showed. Within the hour, they'd left.
Although Jack hadn't had the chance to properly see, he could still tell that he'd only been in a small room of a gigantic castle. It was only when they were quite far from the castle, which turned out to have been smacked in the middle of a pretty large and fancy city, did his mom finally relax. She was breathing heavily, and Jack, who was held with one arm against her chest, could tell she was sweating quite a bit.
She took the time to cuddle Jack a little, which did calm him down a bit. Eventually, she arrived in a far-away house after quite the long journey.
She was also quick to drop him off in an already there crib, which told Jack that this 'escape' wasn't exactly a spurr-of-the-moment thing. They waited for a bit before a stranger came in, also dressed in black and looking like a stereotypical assassin.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
Jack's mom and the stranger spoke for a bit, all low-voice and dramatic whispers, before he finally handed over a sack of something to Jack's mom, who took it with a nod. The assassin-stranger then left not so stealthily through the door.
And just like that, Jack's life resumed. The differences were that his mom was now almost always home and that he lived in a slightly bigger room. Good stuff.
It was a little after his first birthday, or at least he thought it was, when Jack finally spoke his first word, which was the typical 'mama'. He still struggled to understand the language sometimes, but having his mom constantly baby-talk made it a bit easier.
Funnily enough, that was when something weird happened. A pop-up, well, popped up.

Jack had actually squealed when that happened, which was right after he said mama. His mom had laughed so much and made him keep on repeating it.
After the fifth 'mama', he got another pop up.

And indeed, he could understand his mom a bit better now. It was weird, it probably fucked with his brain somehow, but damn did he feel proud. Proud of what, Jack wasn't sure. Probably not something anyone should be proud of, but god damn it he was only a 1 year old.
"Good job, Juliet!" Jack's mom squealed as she assaulted him with a hug. Even as he tried to wiggle his way out of her grasp, his mind was whirling.
He hadn't had the knowledge to understand whatever name had been given to him this life, but... Juliet was a girl's name. He hadn't exactly checked, but he'd thought he would have still been male. Apparently, either the Manager was fucking with him, or he'd hit the 50% roll on the F side.
Either was just as plausible. He wasn't happy, but there was little he could do about it, and there were more interesting things to worry about. Like checking out whatever system the Manager had told him... her? Told her about.
Jack, now apparently named Juliet, which she thought was a lame and copycat-ish name, tried to mentally shout system, and just like that, a little window appeared in her mind.
It wasn't exactly like he saw it, more like he just knew the information on the screen and his mind automatically put it together. It was... weird.

A status worth of a useless little baby barely able to crawl around. Toying around with the thing more yielded little result, which convinced Juliet to eventually ask her mother when she got around to speaking. Hopefully she wouldn't be seen as a demon and/or devil and crucified.
Finger crossed that wouldn't happen, but if it did, at least the immortal perk should help out. Hopefully.
She really didn't fancy forever burning without being able to die. It sounded... bad.
First, she had to extricate herself from the immensely strong hug her mother was giving her, which promised a death even worse than burning alive for the rest of eternity if she didn't quickly run... err, crawl away.
