Epilogue – Telleya – Departure

“All hands are accounted for and on call, Commander!” Sarley shouted.

“Engage engines. Get us into motion, Jamthi,” Noth ordered.

“Onto course! Full ahead!” Jamthi shouted, and a few moments later the entire bridge went into motion, all shouting similar orders.

The Front-Line didn't seem to move... even though I was fully expecting it to. Instead, the only proof that we had begun to move was that the world outside had changed.

Far off clouds, which had been stationary this whole time, started to move along the window as the Front-Line moved.

“Initiating engines. All hands brace!” a woman shouted, and Yevin grabbed onto my shoulder.

Taking his action to heart, I grabbed the nearby railing and firmed my footing. Sure enough, a few moments later, the entire Front-Line jolted.

Somewhat similar to the feeling as to when Noth shook it, but far more intense. Even though I had grabbed the railing, if not for Yevin's grip I would have fallen over.

“Thanks Yevin,” I said to him, once the shaking ended.

“All green! Pace increasing evenly, and the engines are purring,” Sarley shouted.

“Well done crew,” Noth happily complimented his people.

“There's still time to get off, little miss,” Yevin said softly.

Marli glanced at me with his comment, her wide eyes full of concern.

I shook my head, and found myself liking this giant man more and more. He was the gentlest person I've ever met.

“I can't. Too many others have wanted this. It's my duty to leave... especially after what I did,” I said.

“Can just throw her off, Yevin, if you really want her gone,” Noth said.

“You with her,” Yevin said back.

People around us laughed.

“Please don’t throw me off either,” Marli’s tiny voice said, unlike Yevin and I she was directly up against the giant glass. She was entranced with the world beyond.

“If anyone’s getting thrown off it’s Noth,” Yevin grumbled, putting an end to the teasing.

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.

I smiled to the relieved Marli as she returned to looking out the massive window, excited to see the world beyond.

I left Yevin's side and walked over to Noth. He was sitting in the large chair all alone, which was rather plain... and looked somewhat uncomfortable.

“My place is with you, husband,” I said to him.

Noth shifted at my words, and his crew around us giggled. I couldn't help but smirk, since I knew it really did bother him when I teased him like this.

“Yeah... sure... you and I are going to have to talk about this by the way,” he said.

“I'm sure we'll have plenty of long talks... there's no need to rush, husband,” I said.

He groaned a little as others laughed. Even though they seemed to recognize that I was doing it on purpose, they still found it hilarious.

While Noth rubbed his eyes, as if tired, Jamthi walked up to us. “Where to, Commander?” he asked.

The bridge went quiet... almost eerily quiet, and I realized there was a sense of apprehension in the air.

Looking around, I noticed a lot of the eyes weren't necessarily on Noth... but instead on me.

Feeling a little nervous, I hoped they didn't expect me to pick. Since after all, I couldn't even read a map properly. At least not yet.

But... there was one place I didn't need to know where it was, or how to get there. And it was somewhere I really did want to go.

“I would like to see your home, husband,” I said.

“This is my home...” Noth grumbled, then turned to Jamthi, and nodded.

“Destination: Home!” Jamthi yelled.

Although many people cheered, and someone even threw their hat into the air... one of the older men nearby groaned. “I hate going home to the wife...”

Unsure if he was being serious or not, I decided to refocus on my husband. Or at least, I was going to... but then I realized something important.

“Is there not a seat for me, husband?” I asked.

For a long moment, Noth and the rest stared at me... but no one laughed.

No one giggled, and no one jeered.

Worried I had made a mistake, I was about to say something else... but Noth stood from his seat, and sighed.

With a small gesture, Noth offered me his seat.

Giving him a smile, I happily sat down in the large seat... and almost regretted it. Just like the one in his office... this chair was crude, and rough. It was both hard, and cold.

It wasn't comfortable at all.

But... Now sitting... I was able to see straight into the bridge. And the giant windows that circled around, revealing the whole world and beyond, looked as if they had been made just for me.

Glancing over to Yevin, the large man gave me a smirk as he nodded. As if proud of me.

Marli was still transfixed with the world beyond, but I could tell by her happy smile reflecting from the window that all was well with her.

Sarley and Jamthi teased me a little with some clapping, but were all smiles as well.

Noth grumbled something, but in the end smiled as he crossed his arms... standing next to me.

Everyone here, like myself, were just grains of sand… yet…

Patting the arm-rests... it was my turn to smile and nod.

“This will do.”
