With points one, three, and five from my list already done, without taking care of the other three, I can't help but notice that my increased mental Stats also don't stop another problem I have. Once I have found something that interests me, I have a very hard time stopping. Rather, my increased concentration only made it worse.
While I now had a good assessment of my "natural" abilities, it was now time to get myself properly equipped.
The first important thing to note is that, while I was wearing the same pajama I went to sleep with during my first fight, the damage that it had taken during the fight was gone afterward.
That, of course, begs the question of what actually happened and how I could try to exploit that.
I could imagine this to go in several different possible ways, some better for me than others depending on how it influences two main factors.
These two factors are my body and my Skills.
For my body, or more specifically, my avatar, I could see this going in two ways. Either, everything I'm wearing and carrying on my body at the time I go to sleep get's carried with me into the fight. Or, before the first fight, my avatar has been set and I will now always appear to the fight in the same pajama.
As for my Skills, the possibilities are very similar. Either I appear with an empty Pocket dimension when the next fight starts, or I can bring more stuff with me. Though, If I can bring stuff with my ability, there is also the question if it gets restored afterward like my pajama or my injuries.
Of course, the most optimal situation for me would be if the only way to bring extra stuff to the fight were my Pocket dimension. In that way, my utility ability could give me the best advantage against those with purely combat-oriented ones.
Sadly, I highly doubt that things would be that convenient for me. If my guess is right, there should be some kind of way for everyone to bring extra equipment to the fights, at least to a limited degree.
This recruitment tournament seems to have the purpose of finding people with a certain minimum combat potential. In that case, if someone gets an ability that needs some kind of blade to use, it would be stupid to have them lose all their fights because they can't bring a knife.

On the other hand, there was also the possibility of someone bringing a gun. It would matter little how much fire or ice they can control, or how much faster and stronger someone gets if they get angry if they get shot in the head within the first few seconds of the fight.
Actually, that reminded me of my father's hunting rifle. It would give me a huge advantage if I could bring that. While I hadn't been at the shooting range for over a year, I do have a license. I will have to find a good excuse to borrow it when I visit my parents on Wednesday.
Not wasting any more time thinking, I make my way to the kitchen counter and opened the lowest drawer.
Since several years before I moved out, my parents had started collecting all kinds of kitchen utensils if they could get them for free or at a discount, and simply collected everything in a box for me and my sister.
When my sister then discovered her cooking hobby and got her good set of knives, we realized that, over the years, the number of knives in that box had taken on slightly ridiculous proportions. Thanks to that, even after throwing away most and only keeping the best ones, I now have a single drawer in my kitchen full of over twenty different kitchen knives.
Taking out five of the long and thin variety and one big meat-cleaver as you could only see them in trashy horror movies, I threw them all into the portal and continue looking. After a short while of carefully rifling through the collection, I finally find the one I was looking for, the one that comes with a sheath that would allow me to carry it on my belt.
While I had absolutely no idea why someone would want to carry a kitchen-knife on their belt, it would definitely come in handy. Because, if I can carry equipment on my body into the fight, it would allow me to hide my Overskill just a bit longer, potentially giving me a better chance to catch my opponent by surprise.
But while knives were a good start, they could only bring me so far. If things went as I hoped they would, my greatest strength would come from great adaptability through a great variety of different equipments. And that got me thinking. After all, it wasn't like had the convenient hobby of collecting weapons or something like that.
Only when I fell into one of my thinking habits, looking out of the window, did I decide on my next step. While I, sadly, didn't gain some sudden enlightenment, I did remember something that I hadn't thought about since I moved into this apartment building.
Putting on my jacket and shoes, and for the first time since moving in, I went into the garden.
While it wasn't a very big garden, a hundred square meters at best, it was actually quite luxurious for an apartment building in this area to have one at all, and also the reason why so many families lived in my apartment building.
But what I was after wasn't the garden itself. When I first moved in, my landlord had told me that there is a tool shed in the garden which had become a kind of public property after the original owner moved out and left all his tools behind.
Because of that, everyone from the building was allowed to use them, though we would have to make a note if we borrowed something for an extended period of time.
It wasn't like I was expecting anything great, but it was definitely a start.
