As these messages fade in and out of sight, my mind still feels sluggish, not quite able to keep up with what is happening.

As the last message disappears, I take in my surroundings for the first time. I'm still in the same pajamas I went to bed with, but now I'm standing in the middle of a large sand ring, surrounded by large stone walls. But, something is strange.

In front of me stands another person, a man as far as I can tell. But that's all I can tell.

Only after looking at the man do I realize what the strange thing is. Everything is blurry. The walls, the floor, the sky. Even the man in front of me. Everything that could give me information as to where I am or who this man is seems to be blurred out. Obscured.

Is this, a dream? A lucid dream, since I can think and move?

Maybe. Probably.

While I can't make out details, the man in front of me seems just as confused as me.

Suddenly, I feel an urge. An urge to hurt the man.

Just as fast as it came, it went away again. But now, my focus is on the man, and I faintly recall the messages from earlier. This is a tournament, a fight.

I can see that the other man is thinking the same.

Strange how I can make out such details despite the blur. No, not a blur. Almost as if certain details just never reach my brain.

Again, the urge. Stronger this time. Longer as well.

The man is coming towards me slowly, with his guard up. I do the same.

I plant my feet at shoulder width on the ground, the left slightly to the front, my knees bent. I put my arms up in a guard position.

Before I went to university I regularly did kickboxing. Thanks to that, I know how to defend myself. And I also know that the other man is an amateur. This fight shouldn't be hard.

The urge, again.

I manage to keep calm, but the other man doesn't. He charges me. I still don't quite get what's going on, but I just go with the flow.

As the man rushes in with a widely telegraphed punch, my body reacts almost on its own. A quick step back brings me just out of range of my enemy, whose missed attack carries on, bringing him out of balance.

A quick jab to his chin further destabilizes my opponent, buying enough time for my kick to connect with his head.

The man crumples to the ground in a heap in an instant.

After a few seconds, nothing happened, and just as I relax my guard, the man suddenly jumps up again.

Maybe it's that kind of dream? The one where you run away from something but never can get away, just with an opponent I can never win against instead? I hope not.

Then I see the man's face. Still no details, but I can clearly see the fury, the pure anger as he charges me again like a man possessed. I recoil in shock for a moment. I have never seen a man make such an expression before.

While I'm out of it for a moment, my opponent's fist connects. A lot stronger than my opponent's bad form suggested.

Before my opponent can attack me again, I quickly counter him with another jab to the face followed by a kick in the side.

This time, however, the man doesn't go down. No, he doesn't even flinch.

Before I can pull my leg back, he suddenly grabs it and pulls. Caught off-guard, I can't help but try to stay balanced on a single leg, awkwardly hopping forward.

Before I can bring my guard back up, I already see a fist flying for my face.

With an audible crack, my body flies back with more force than should have reasonably been possible.

I could feel the slow trickle of blood flowing from my nose and the metallic taste on my lips.

At the intense pain of my definitely broken nose, a thought slowly crept into my mind. Maybe, just maybe, this wasn't a dream after all. They do say after all that you can't feel pain in dreams since it would wake you up.

"Hey, dude. How about we talk ab..." before I could even complete two sentences, the man was flying at me again in a gigantic leap defying anything that the human body should be capable of.

Yep, it's a dream after all. A fucking scary dream!

Just before the man lands, I manage to roll to the side, narrowly avoiding getting stomped to death.

For a moment, everything goes still as me and my opponent look each other in the eyes, and for the first time do I notice the faint red glow in his.

As I lie there, seconds pass. Maybe minutes. As slowly, his eyes start to change, becoming more animalistic, the pupils growing longer and the iris turning red.

Until now, things were weird, but I could still deal with it. But now, I was genuinely getting scared, my heart pounding in my chest. I blink as a drop of sweat flows into my eye.

As if he had noticed, a grin spreads across the man's face and he pounces.

Before I can even react, the man has me pinned to the ground, sitting on top of me.

Hastily, I bring my arms back up into a guard, but the man simply grabs them with inhuman strength, the claws now growing on his fingers painfully digging into my flesh.

As if I were a child, he pulls aside my arms and pins them on the ground beside my head.

Still struggling, I try to ram my knee into my opponent's ass, but before it can even connect, his head shoots forward and his teeth dig into my throat.

Pain. For a moment, my body goes limp, and everything my brain can perceive is a blinding, all-consuming pain.

With a scream, I wake up.
