The cafeteria was alive with its usual chaos, but there was something different about today. Something unsettling. Whispers cut through the air like knives, and heads swiveled to one particular table—no, to one particular pair.

Reine Albertine, the school’s golden boy, the beloved King of Confidence, strode through the room as if the world revolved around him. And honestly, it probably did. But today, the spotlight wasn’t just on him.

It was on her.

Deon Fonias.

The malnourished, pale, black-sheep-of-the-campus weirdo with her corpse-like complexion, messy snow-white hair, and those haunting blood-red eyes that looked like they belonged on a horror poster. The girl who had been universally labeled as the Creepy Freak.

Reine, oblivious—or maybe indifferent—to the gawking stares, set down his tray with the ease of someone utterly in control of the situation. Deon, on the other hand, sat hunched in her chair, staring at her hands, as if she could will herself invisible. If she melted into the floor, she wouldn’t have been mad about it.

“Eat,” Reine ordered casually, sliding a plate closer to her.

Deon’s fingers hovered uncertainly over the food, her eyes flicking to his with the meekness of a cornered rabbit. “I’m not—”

“I wasn’t asking,” he cut her off with a sly smirk. “Do I look like I spent twenty minutes picking this out so you could keep looking like a malnourished Victorian ghost? Eat.”

The room went silent. Did Reine Albertine just… scold someone? For not eating?

Deon picked up a fork hesitantly, moving in slow, deliberate bites, her discomfort written in every movement. Reine watched her, as casual as a cat stretched in a sunbeam, before shifting his attention back to the gawking crowd.

“Something funny?” he called out to the nearest table, his smirk sharper now. The staring students flinched and scrambled to look anywhere but at him.
