So the gods are real. I mean, in a way they always were, only they're... back? Ok, let me try that again.

So the gods are back... that doesn't really cover it either. They were here, and real, but they didn't get involved. On vacation, or out to lunch.

Ok, once more.

So, the gods decided to give a shit.

Again, that's not the whole story. But I'm the one telling the story and you'll just have to wait for a more detailed explanation.

For most of revised history... did I say revised? I meant recorded. 

For most of recorded history humans have had god clubs. I mean religions. Only they were usually one sided. Like that one girl that kept not showing up to all the parties. The one you met at that other school but your real friends never got to meet before you broke up, but she was totally hot. 

Anyway, sometimes there were prophets or shaman or some other mumbling mystic type and the world would get a load of "chosen one" this and "thus sayeth" that... But mostly humans were on their own.

I guess there was a bet? Or a time out? We were like a paper airplane that's been thrown off a balcony. For a while you're just floating on the breeze and then you crash into a bush and get blown down the beach until you get stuck in some weird guy's swim trunks and he thinks it's a sign and changes his whole life…

Ok. I got a little in the weeds there. But so was the whole religion thing. Humans kind of ran with it. But daddy's home and now we got some splainin’ to do!

Really, they don't care what we did. They just fought and made a mess of things. 

Let me see if I can clear it up.

The different pantheons were at war with each other, constantly. Zeus and the Greek gods vs Jupiter and the Roman pantheon. Many of the stories and mythos were close to the truth. But a lot was propaganda by the priests, or even from the gods themselves. 

You could say it's all been lost to the mists of time, or something equally mysterious and Oracle sounding.

Suffice it to say that the gods have even bigger bosses who stepped in and stopped all the fighting. Too much of earth and surrounding space was being destroyed.

Zeus and Co (tm) we put on a time out. But they're back. Although they aren't allowed to step in directly.

I'm sure all of this makes perfect sense.

And now that you're all caught up, and after a pause for dramatic effect.... our story begins!

Oh, before I forget. (I didn't really forget, I just thought I'd add to the drama, and possibly annoy you with further delay) The gods can't get directly in the mix, but they can give power to humans, and others. Thereby not getting their hands slapped by the higher ups. But they can still fight. Just by proxy by humans. Seems fair, right?
