Emily?

Emily?

Amy and the other three only ate a small amount then came to the couch where I was sitting leaving the children to finish eating. Amy asked me how I planned to find Emily, so I told her that I found a note on where she planned on going. she seemed to enter deep thought when I remembered the reason for approaching the garage.

I ask if there were any cars nearby that worked. Amy told me that the car they had was taken by the people that used to be with them when they went out to gather supplies, but they never came back. sighing I looked ahead paying attention to note where there were less zombies, so we can pass through undetected.

We were going past an area that seemed to have an unnaturally high number of zombies. Thinking of why this was the case we heard someone's voice. Looking in the direction of the voice we saw people on a roof a few houses away.

While thinking Amy asked me if we could go to them and see if they needed anything. I asked her why should we when it could put us in danger and for what, for a group of strangers. She kept trying to persuade me when someone in the group on the roof began to yell at the top of their lungs. I felt like killing them for being so stupid. I looked at Amy and told her we had to leave now before we're surrounded.

My warning was unnecessary as groups of zombies had already started to come around the corner of the buildings including ours heading in the direction of the screams. As they were heading towards the other group some noticed us and head in our direction. Seeing the approaching horde, I tell everyone to enter the store were threw the broken windowfronts and to head to up and try to get onto the roof.

One of the men tell me that the way onto the roof is threw a ladder that the building has on the side. We head there, and I tell them to begin climbing with the children being first. The other women grab the boy and starts to climb up followed by the girl then Amy. While they began to climb the horde had already gotten to our location. I hurried them saying to climb up as fast as possible.

While they continue to climb I began to fight back the horde. While I fought I made sure to keep the ladder clear, so I could climb up in case I'm unable to handle the zombies. I began to slice their heads in half or stab them in the head. While fighting them I noticed that they would sometimes try to dodge my attacks which had never happened before. About ten minutes had passed and dozens of zombies were dead on the ground a few meters from the ladder in every direction but the one thing that worries me is that they now dodge some of my attacks as if they are learning the more I fight them.

Having been killing them for over an hour I climb up the ladder and sit on the roof to regain my stamina. I stay like that for a few minutes and most of my stamina has recovered. I go to Amy and tell her what I noticed. How at the start they were falling at every one of my strikes but then how they began to try and dodge to the point where they were able to dodge my strikes.

She paled at my mention of how the zombies were learning my way of fighting. She then told me some information that made me just wasn't to strangle god.

When it all started which according to her was half a year ago the zombies were just mindless freaks who hungered for human flesh. Then a month after their appearance some of them began to show signs of intelligence and were able to even avoid bullets from seeing where the barrels were being aimed at. This was investigated by the military who were still stable at the time. Nothing came out of the investigation until a squad who was in search for survivors encountered a zombie who was different from the rest. It was bigger, faster and stronger than the rest. It could also see unlike the ordinary ones who could only hear and smell.

The team had cameras in their helmets which recorded how the evolved zombie commanded the ordinary zombies on how and when to charge at the team. It also showed how the zombie was able to tear members of the team in half with its claws which were at least half a foot long with extreme sharpness considering the team members were fully decked in swat armor. The only bright side is that they were still a bit clumsy and not much faster than humans and that panic was what led the team to be wiped.

My face kept on darkening the more I heard about these zombies who apparently had claws that could tear threw gear meant to defend people from firearms and able to control to learn how to better fight against others. This led me to remember about how the zombies were beginning to get smarter in their approach to my fighting style. There was only one conclusion that came to mind and that is that there is one of these zombies nearby controlling the horde. That's when I remembered the large number of zombies in this area which seemed unnatural compared to other areas.

While I was pondering on how I could avoid encountering this monster I was broken out of my thoughts by a loud beastly roar followed by screams of terror. Looking over we saw the group responsible for us being stuck on the roof screaming and hurrying to the corner of the roof. Looking at this scene it was finally concrete that the monster just described was there.

I told Amy that we should leave now while the monster was distracted by the other group. We talked about how to escape when one of the men told us that the zombies at the bottom of the ladder were leaving in the direction of the other group.

I quickly went down the ladder practically jumping down while telling the others to quickly climb down. On my descent, some of the ones further back broke off the group in our direction so I went to take care of them while the rest climbed down. I took care of them when the last person was had finished climbing down.

I told them to follow me as I darted in the direction we were going only going fast enough to stay a decent distance ahead of them, so I could take care of any wanders. We had just gotten few buildings from the one we were at when we heard gunshots in the direction of the group followed by another roar. I told them not to stop running and to just keep going.

We ran for over an hour, so we stopped to rest inside of a nearby store. I went inside to take out any zombies, I came to the office in the back but found it locked. I asked if someone was inside, but no one answered. I tried a few more times but no response so I broke down the door only to find a little girl cowering in the corner hugging a stuffed animal.

Seeing her I was momentarily stunned. That's when it hit me, we were walking for over two hours then we ran with everything we had for another. This could very well be the store Emily wrote in the note she would be going to. Coming out of my stupor I said in a somewhat weak voice "Emily?".
