Chapter Twenty One
Bastet, in her cat form, awaited Hel to turn the corner in the Underworld Castle before proceeding to follow. Her soft padded paws gently caressing the uneven ground as she strolled, trying to stay hidden from sight.
You should have been there like you were told, Shu’s voice rang in her ears, you would have gotten a kick at Set losing his composure in what looked like defense of the pitiful creature.
Hel did not seem to notice anything other than her toes. Despite being of royal birth, Hel insisted on walking with no shoes. Something Bastet related with and despised having anything in common with the wretched being.
Suddenly, fingers wrapped themselves underneath Bastet and quickly lifted her into the air. Fur raised, Bastet unsheathed her claws, whipping around and hissing loudly at the audacious individual who dared touch her in such a familiar way.
Kicking off Set’s body, Bastet turned away from him and began licking her paw to groom the disheveled fur atop her head.
“What problem?” Set growled. Rolling her bright golden eyes, Bastet flicked her nose into the air and formed a portal. Ignoring her fellow Protector of the Sands, Bstet strutted through-entering a vast and grainy desert. Set followed suite, arms folded across his chest as he watched the feline transform into her human form.

“I don’t get what you see in her,” Bastet refused to meet Set’s eyes but he kept them on her with piercing focus. Ever since he returned from the Gathering, Bastet had been treating him more poorly than usual. She turned around completely unphased by her own nudity. Her golden skin sparkled in Ra’s light. Her thick, long brown hair lifted with the soft breeze of the desert. They were in the center of the longest stretch of desert surrounding the Capital of Cliupatra. Not even reptiles or arachnids would choose to spend time here as it is the last place Tefnut drops rain, and that is the only if she had any left.
She felt the air tighten with the tension. Her nose wrinkled and she couldn’t help the snarl left on her upper life from the moment she got caught spying. Her heart dropped at being caut, but not nearly as much as being caught by Set. His black onyx body sparkling so much she could barely make out details on his body.
“Girl have no one,” Set dropped his arms. His confusion lost on both himself and Bastet.
“Girl IS no one you big dummy!” Bastet threw her hands in the air and glared at him from over her shoulder. Set could see the pain she was harboring behind her big golden irises. Her shoulders slumped forward and her golden skin sparkled in Ra’s light.
Taking a deep breath inward, Set fought internally. But there was clear pain across Bastet’s face. Unable to control himself, Set grabbed Bastet by the arm and pulled her close to him. Controlling the sands to form a protective barrier from prying eyes, Bastet’s body collapsed into his. Soon the two were in total darkness. His stars in a frenzy across his body. Taking in his scent through both the top of her mouth and nose, Bastet allowed her emotions to release. She wrapped her arms around his Onyx body and pulled herself to up to his face by his shoulders. Taking his massive arms, he wrapped them around Bastet’s tiny frame and held her close as his own senses took over with a need to be even closer.
Her skin felt like tropical waters, the heat coming from both beings beginning to radiate and bubble the shifting sands into glass as they sank deeper into one another.
