Prologue

“Once upon a time, there was a desert in the West. A merchant dragging his heavy steps in the sand that looked like thousand golden dust. He had been robbed. His camels, goods and water were taken. The sun burning over his head, he weakly tried to get out of the desert. But his eyes heavy in the dark, he then fell into quicksand. He could only struggle weakly and then be dragged down.

Waking up with the darkness around him, thinking that he had died, he wept bitterly. Suddenly, a small bright golden light caught his eye. He stepped forwards and looked closely, something buried underground. Then, he scratched with his bare hands. He dug up a golden lamp. He scrutinised it. A light shone right above his head where a hole had suddenly appeared. He escaped and returned home without getting tired.

That night, at his old but cosy house, he curiously took out the lamp. He looked at it, lighting the fire. The lamp was lit up with the smell of agarwood spreading, with the smoke that came out failing to disappear. It gathered in size and turned into a giant.

The giant looked at the merchant. He bowed politely. The giant said he was a genie and promised to grant him three wishes with only one condition. After completing it he will give him some mercy by freeing him from the lamp by destroying it.

The merchant nodded. But he didn't know which wish to choose first. Thinking about it for a while, he remembered the goods he had lost. Now his wife and children could not have new clothes and enough food. What a squalid shack they were living in.

"Please genie with my first wish, I hope that my goods could be returned so that my family can live in wealth." he begged.

The genie smiled and agreed. Then his body, glowing so brightly that it dazzled the merchant's eyes. When he opened his eyes again, it was already the next day. The goods he had returned. He jumped up and happily pushed them into the palace. The king was delighted with the things he brought. Buying all his things back helped him have a big house, food and new clothes for his family.

Another richer and powerful merchant was very angry when his wares could not be sold to the king. He sent people to humiliate him. The merchant was so upset and angry that night so he took out the lamp again and lit it. He said his second wish was to become more powerful and wealthier than that merchant. The genie granted his wish.

The following day, he became the richest and most powerful man in the country. He appeared in front of the merchant's house. Through his power, he humiliated that merchant and drove him out of the city.

From then on, his power and wealth grew, day by day just as he had wanted.

One day, he was disgusted with still having to stand behind and accept the king's domination. He pulled out the lamp and stated his last wish. He wanted to be a king. The genie said nothing and just looked at him sadly.

He became the new king of the country's right after that. But he became a cruel and untrustworthy king. He did not destroy the lamp as he had promised. From that he never lit it again.

His brutality covered the land. In many parts of the country, many rebellions occurred. The army he sent to suppress them was quickly lost. The rebels arrived in front of the palace. He panicked and pulled out the lamp, trying to light it. Yet to no avail. The moment he went back on his word the miracle went away.

Armed with a sword, the rebel leader came in front of him, raised his sword, and ended his life.

Finally, the whole palace was engulfed in flames."

Folding the book again, she turned back to the cover of the book.

"A genie. Huh. Boring oldie." Little doll pouted and threw the storybook onto the pile of others.

She lazily leaned against the stone pedestal, feeling bored she began fiddling with her newly grown toes.

 Suddenly,

"Bang",

A loud noise appeared like something had exploded. A branch of lightning slashed across the sky, and the ground shook more and more violently, startling her. Feeling a little scared she held her head up. She vaguely felt some beings appeared in her head, they were different from her, moving under the water. She felt uncomfortable hearing so many screams in her head like that. She cast a spell, after that everything went quiet again.
