[Chapter 4]

The sun is setting in the distance, coloring the sky with streaks of pink and orange making it a marvelous scene to behold. Morgan is ten-year old this year: a boy with short messy black hair and light brown-colored tan wearing expensive yet not extremely expensive clothes.

He kneels on the ground, blades of the grass itches him as he hunts for any little critters he could find jumping, crawling, or squirming through the turf. The birds watch him from the sky and trees as they sing their exquisite melody. Oh..right, at this moment, Morgan is in the deep forest miles away from his house. He would go to this same spot everyday until his parents arrive home from work. And when he would return they would always greet him with a smile which always make his heart flutter with family love. Especially his big sister, Mardrina.

A grasshopper hop up on Morgan's head and then bounces itself off his head. Morgan's eyes glittered and his  hands swiftly move  trying to catch the hopping insect. This goes on for a couple of seconds as he pounces his body around imitating the grass hopper.  Alas, this moment of happiness soon ended as a bird soared downwards from the sky and snatch the poor critter into the air, leaving Morgan utterly stunned. His eyes traced the bird until they caught sight of something else: thick heavy black smoke drifting along the wind.

It was from the direction of his house!

Morgan sprang up from the ground, wiping his hands across his jeans and shorts that had left over grass imprinted onto it. Heart filled with worry, he scurried through the forest with his short legs as fast as he could, with every distance he covered the clearer the smoke became causing his heart to grow drastically heavy. He stop at a huge brown gate of a village, sweat profusely poured down his face as he constantly gasp for a mouthful of air.

Morgan look up and saw no guards on the top of gate, he suddenly was struck with a bad permutation . Reaching out towards the gate his heart beated violently, seconds felt like minutes, minutes felt like hours to him.

He open the gate and a split second later, his mouth drop. Screams sounded like yelping banshees, burning building crackle. The library, the bar, and the homes of the people he knew burn down to the ground. Corpses painted the lifeless ground scarlet red. Black-Cloaked individuals constantly massacred the villagers, with vicious insane smile on their faces.

Morgan was motionless. He stood in front of the gate and gaze at the ongoing destruction, his body paralyzed, his eyes vacant. His mind and heart shattered into smithereens, even though he saw everything, he still remained unresponsive, which is understandable if any 10-year-old see this.

A cloaked-individual suddenly appears before him, and gaze his vicious scarlet red eyes towards Morgan.

"Hey there kiddo, what are you doing around here? Aren't you suppose to be in your cage?"

Morgan stood still and motionless, he couldn't hear anything the man said. Images of corpses continuously flashed through his eyes; on the other hand, the man smile grew wider and vicious, his eyes became deeper red "Kiddo have guts ignoring me! Since you showed your bravery, I'll end your life for you instead having a life of a slave." he spoke, walking slowly towards him, leaving bloodstained footprints on the ground.

A piercing sound echoed throughout the sky catching the man attention, but before he could even shift a finger, an arrow pierce through his head and he lifelessly fall to the ground with a loud thud.

"Morgan, come on! Grab my hand"

A voice shouted at Morgan, but with his state of being, all it sounded like was yelping banshees. The warmth feeling of a hand spreads throughout his hand and the warm hand pull his body. Morgan lifted up his head, his vision was blurred and all his saw was a figure taller than him with a head full of sandy blond hair.

"S-sister?" Morgan mumbled, his tone lack the warmth of a young boy.

The young woman didn't reply but strengthen her grip on his hands. The couple dashed through the village avoiding an encounter with the cloaked individuals. As the two arrived in front of a severely damaged house, they quickly entered it.

The woman dragged Morgan upstairs and hide him in a closet, but she didn't enter it. She cast her gaze at him through the holes of the closet door " Don't worry about me, just stay in here and don't come out. And remember your big sis will always love you" she stated, then walked out the room with tears in her eyes.

It was at this moment, reality hit him like a ton of weights; his senses quickly returned to him. His heart pounded as it if it could escape from his chest, and an torturous pain throb  occur in his heart. Morgan entire vision was consumed with scarlet red,  tears profusely poured down his face as he begin sobbing which turn into a gut-wenching scream.

Morgan sprang from the closet and stumble down the stairs, losing his balance he felled head first on the ground but he felt no pain. He put both his hands on the ground and was about to bounce himself back up, but a warm feeling spread throughout his right palm. He glance at his palm and his heart immediately shook, blood was plastered on his palm causing him to scream.

He desperately sat up and look around, and what he saw cause him to scream once more; on the ground next to him was the body of two lifeless figures he knew all his life. His parents! Snot and tears once more poured from his face but he remembered one thing that was still dear to him.

His sister!

Morgan wiped the tears and snot off his face with his hands, he sprinted towards the door and swung it open. He peered towards the distance ignoring the countless corpses around him. Immediately he saw a huge brown ordinary carriage in the distance surrounded by dozens of figures. In the carriage were many children: female and male. His eyes constantly search and finally locked onto his sister.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

"S-sister, is still alive!" he exclaimed.

He was about to run towards the carriage but was stop by the deadly glare of his sister, she already knew he was going to do something stupid and immediately stop him with the glare of her azure blue eyes.

His heart shook and his body froze as he watch the carriage with the children and his sister ride off into the distance.

Morgan's eyes shot open, and he gasped for air. He propped himself up on the cold hard ground, clutching his aching head with his hands as his breathing slowly normalized. He look around curiously and sees that he is in a vast forest, the sun is still rising indicating it was morning. He look down on himself and finds that he was wearing an unusual blue uniform.

"Was that...a nightmare? Where am I?"

Indeed it was a nightmare, this nightmare was created by Cat when she inputted artificial memories into his brain. He no longer look the same from the other world; his messy ink black hair had grown into long back length hair. He had smooth snow white skin, an oval face similar to a woman's face, with dark abyss black eyes. He was slender, and had very long legs.

Morgan sprang himself off the ground onto his feet, the sun radiated causing his body to heat up. He brought his hands towards his face to block out the luminous sun. He gazed around once more before walking off towards the distance. He didn't know where he was going but he knew if he stay in the forest any longer a bear or tiger or anything might snack on him for lunch. Wind gracefully tossed his hair across his shoulders and the sunshine shined upon him as his lonely figure walks making it a scene worth to paint.

Morgan continued walking for a half of hour until  a carriage appeared in his view. It was medium size ordinary velvet red cloak carriage but the color of red wasn't painted on it, but was cloak in blood. The ground around it was painted red: limbs, clothes, and books covered the ground as well. His heart shook and his breathing became quiver, his eyes slowly turn scarlet red. But immediately right after, he clench his fists and teeth and slowly stop the emotions that was swelling within him. He sighed and look at the scene once more. He knew the smell of blood would attract many predators so he decided it was best to quickly leave.

However, a bunch of shiny golden coins reflect the sunlight into his eyes causing them to sparkle.

Golden coins! It was golden coins!

From his prior knowledge, gold is worth a lot of money, and If he had this he could live a better life and maybe be able to find his sister. Looking around to see if there were anyone else presence, Morgan then dashed towards the carriage and grab a small brown chest filled to the brim with gold, closing it, he tuck it into his uniform and ran away from the scene.

As he appeared, he swiftly disappeared; there weren't a single golden coin left, the greed of a human is truly unimaginable.

Morgan continued to walk along the forest but with much more vigilance than before. Minutes flew by before a huge silver gate approach his view. The gate was rather ordinary but could work just fine from letting calamity to approach the city. Morgan mouth curled up into a smirk as he peered at the gate from a distance.

Morgan clutch his hands together, and then loosen them; in both hands was a gold coin. He didn't know if to get in the gate had a fee or anything, but it was much better to prepared. If he weren't prepared and had to take out a gold coin from the chest, it will attract virtually everyone attention. And thus he might be robbed or killed for it.

Morgan arrived at the gates were two heavy equip armored guards who's vigilantly scanning through the area until they abruptly stop when they saw Morgan.

"Who are you!?" one of the guards scowled at him

Morgan wince; he hadn't thought the guard would be so rude and immediately raise a spear at him, a feeling of indignation

swell in him.Putting on a facade, he pushed down his anger and smiled.

"I'm just a traveler who's looking for a place temporary stay" he answered, slowly he raises his hands in the air " I truly don't mean any harm, my good sir."

The other guard tapped the man on his shoulders and whispered into his ear, immediately right after the man lowered his spear and smiled. "I'm sorry, I'm kinda knew at this job. To enter the city will be 2 silvers, or 200 copper coins."

'Silver coins? Copper coins? Does he mean quarters and pennies?' Morgan thought to himself.

"Sorry, I don't have q- silver coins or copper coins but a gold coin should be sufficient right?"

Both of the guards gawked at him, and then face each other before they both nod excitingly. "Yes, yes that's more than sufficient but we can't give you change" they both stated.

Anger flared in Morgan but quickly he calm himself down still upholding the fake smile he had. "OK, thank you" he flipped the coin towards one of the guards and entered the city.

On the other hand both of the guards stared amazingly at the gold coin, one of the guard grab the other one's shoulder and said "I don't want this gold coin,  you can have it. After all you wife need it for medicine to get better!"

"B-but...thank you, George!" the other guard begin to sob and constantly wipe his tears.

"You got this job for that reason after all Roger, and besides you know owe me one,"

"Yes, I'll remember,"

Morgan never knew by just giving one of the guards a golden coin will surely greatly benefit him in the future.
