Chapter 7, Now We're Getting Somewhere

"Got any recommendations for guilds we could join?" James asked Tabatha. "Me and my sister want to join a guild to learn more about this world."

"What do you mean 'learn more about this world'? Didn't you grow up in it?"

"Uh, we grew up in an isolated area, so we don't know much about outside things."

"Ah, makes sense. A good guild for people your age and experience would be the Sky Guild. Here's a paper with some information about it before you decide to teleport there."

James and Janica read about the Sky Guild. The Sky Guild taught non-experienced people how to thrive in this world, and also gave information about other guilds in case members wanted to join something else once they're ready. The Sky Guild, like the name suggested, was in the sky, but not the typical sky most would think. The siblings learned that the land they have been walking on is actually just one giant sky island in the, you guessed it, sky. There were an unknown amount of islands and the Sky Guild was on an island that was small when compared to other ones, but quite big nonetheless. The Sky Guild seemed good enough for the siblings.

"How much does it cost to go there?" Janica asked with a newly formed smile on her face.

"So I guess every teleport is ten copper?" James asked Janica as they stepped into the teleporting ritual. The ritual itself was a circle on a wooden floor, surrounded by tiny pink rocks.

"I wonder how teleporting feels." Janica thought aloud. "Maybe it'll feel like a roller coaster, or maybe it'll feel like nothing!"

"You'll throw up." Tabatha said, moving her hands in weird motions to get ready to teleport them. "You'll most likely throw up from the feeling of teleporting."

After she said that, she slammed her hands down onto the floor and the pair vanished. The pair felt like they were tossed around a crashing car, flung off a cliff, landed in a roller coaster seat that was currently falling, and then back to normal. Janica and James threw up the moment they arrived, with a convenient bucket in front of them.

"You'll get used to it." Said a man standing nearby. "Someday, you kids will no longer throw up when teleporting, but today is not someday. I assume you guys are here to join the Sky Guild?"

The siblings looked around after emptying their stomachs, and found that they were on a pier overlooking an empty sky, with circles in the ground nearby, buckets in front of each. The pier also had a few ships that looked straight out of a pirate movie. The pair quickly got up and the man handed them a bottle with a blue liquid inside.

"Drink that, it'll get rid of the throw up and the taste of throw up in your mouth. Follow me when you're ready to join."

----------------------------------------

The pair followed the man who led them past the wooden piers area of the island and onto a long flight of steps leading to a building with a steampunk vibe, with gears and pipes running along the sides of the building, and a waterwheel connected to a wall of it scooping water out of a river. The inside of the building didn't reveal much since they only saw one room, with multiple doors labeled in a language they couldn't quite read.

"Go through the door on the right, a woman will let you sign a few things before you're an official member, and then a kid will brief you on what we do, where you'll stay, and other important things."

And with that, the man headed back to the piers.

The pair stepped through the door like instructed, and a white woman that looked to be in her 50's sat behind a desk.

"Hello there, would you kids like to join the Sky Guild?"

----------------------------------------

After a bit of signing, the siblings were introduced to a little boy that looked to be about twelve.

"Hi there, I'll give you newcomers a tour of the guild, and what we do."

The boy led them through multiple doors, each door had something important behind it. Some doors had sleeping quarters for guild members, others had workshops. It seemed like there was a door for everything the guild needed, and the boy took his time to go slowly so the pair could get a proper look around. They then stopped in front of another sleeping quarters.

"This is where you two will be staying, and tomorrow you'll be trained for guild work, for now, just introduce yourselves to fellow guild members, they'll catch you up."

The siblings walked through the door, walked to one of the many bunk beds, and sat down.

"I'm still confused on how we went from our living room to becoming members of some sky club." James joked.
