Chapter 5

[Now Translating Language: Progress At 81.9%]

[Function Acquired: Language Comprehension]

[Function Unlocked: Fiore Language]

It has been 3 days since Gear woke up. Sent to the orphanage, Gear has concentrated on learning the language of the locals. He also got help from the woman he saw when he woke up, who was named Carla.

Asking what each item was every day, and listening to the various conversations around him has enabled him to understand most of the language. He didn’t know the more complicated words, but he can pass off as a local.

“Wow, your progress is amazing Gear! To think that you would learn the language in a couple of days.”

For some reason, Carla was strangely attached to Gear. It may be because they were both the same, unknown to Gear.

“Okay, now let’s review a bit about the country. What is the name of the country?”

“Fiore."

“Good, our country is ruled by the Beast-kin. Beast-kin are humans who evolved by taking the coming-of-age ceremony. Usually most people take it at around 5 years old.”

“? What is the coming-of-age ceremony?

“Oh… oh yeah! I forgot to tell you. The COA Ceremony is when a human unlocks his hidden potential. What that means is they get the ability to evolve into a higher being. Usually most people turn into the common animals, like cat/dog/bird. Some stronger bloodlines include Wolf/Crow/Flower. And there are so many bloodlines that I can’t remember them all. Most people don’t take it though because it’s expensive to take the ceremony.”

“? But you are human. Can you not pay?”

“…” Carla looked down, and Gear knew he spoke the wrong words. Ever since he turned into a human, he became more sensitive to the emotions around him.

“…I’m a Jirokara. A weak bloodline, so weak that the COA Ceremony can’t stimulate me to evolve. Jirokara’s are extremely rare. To the masses, they are no different from the poor, and to the elites, they are trash."

“…” From those words, Gear gleamed quite a bit of information. He was a smart robot, even if he isn’t so cunning. He figured out that they also considered him a Jirokara, and why Carla had a strange attachment to him.

“…Carla.”

“Yes?”

“I’m hungry.”

“…pfht. Hahaha, okay just wait a minute. I’ll cook something quick.”

Gear could no nothing else except steer the conversation away.
