Chapter 2

The year being early 280AC and myself only being six years old meant I couldn’t really effect any events that would lead up to canon (even if I wanted to) so all I could do was work on myself and my family.

I’m thankful that my family is primarily an independent trading family and is t technically beholden to any lord as while my father is of the north, my mother is essosi, not that you would know it from looking at myself or any of my siblings.

It didn’t overly much matter in any case as I didn’t feel any obligation to the North nor any of the ‘great’ houses even if I did some what like the Starks and to an extent the northern culture more than the rest and I may involve myself more in Westerosi business for the simple reason as I know of their culture and habits better than any other region due to my experience in watching the tv series.

While watching the series may not give me any great details of knowledge, I do know the major events as well as the major players and more importantly, their personalities.

I knew certain things such as I couldn’t really save Robert’s life as I much preferred Daenerys, and Robert was simply too unpredictable in what he would do if given any information.

Lord Eddard Stark, Warden of the north is a good possibility with his connection to the Targaryen family through his nephew, Jon, but that would need to wait quite a good few years, maybe I could help Daenerys in the time in between then and there but I suppose we would have to see how I felt the closer the time came to such a thing.

When I woke up in this world a few weeks ago I did some of the cliche things, such as working out in more modern ways, even if I could only do so lightly with my weak 6 year old body, I hoped to see improvements over the next few years if I could keep up with it. I should add that I mostly did it in secret from anyones watchful eyes not that anyone had anything to suspect from a 6 year old and not that it would matter in the end anyways but still I did so.

The other things I did was add things to the cargo hold of the ship as we sailed. It wasn’t any great quantities but it did leave my parents scratching their heads in confusion when random sacks spices would appear that weren’t on their manifest, or the rolls of silk and other materials that were cheap for me to buy for coppers on the dragon.

The profits from my little venture though, tended to add up over the moons that I gained my memories and I think my parents simply gave up trying to find out where such things were coming from and decided to simply do inventory before landing in ports and count their blessings. The reason they were probably scratching their heads for the most part is the simple fact they didn’t trade for any bolts of silk or any other material so we’re confused why they had any in the first place. Not to mention the good quality exotic spices.

I shouldn’t be overly surprised that I got caught eventually as these anomalies were driving my parents mad. I didn’t realize father was actually hiding in the hold trying to catch whatever was going on in the act and saw materials simply basically come in to existence before me and a few dozen copper coins disappear.

“Fffather! What are you doing here so late?!” I asked in my still pretty squeaky 7 years old voice.

“I think you know why I am here Alexander. It has been a great mystery what is going on and I would like you to explain what I witnessed…” his tone was slightly weary but not afraid or anything so that was good I suppose.

I had kinda thought of ways to explain away how I do such things in a way that would make at least some kind of sense to them but I guess I would have to see how this went.

I just looked at my father, taking a moment to get the already planned story in line and then basically letting it spew out like an actual 7 year old. I was fairly sure I could trust my new family as they seemed like they all loved each other including myself so I wasn’t actually too overly worried.

My story revolved around a type of magic, I called it equivalent exchange. I could basically turn currency into certain product, what could be produced depended on the type and amount of coin, I also put a limit on how much I could actually produce in a single day as I didn’t want to overflow the markets or anything, or have my powers too abused.. so I set some soft limits on what and how much I could produce as well as how often.

That was pretty much that, my father and I sat down with my mother and older sister and basically had a repeat conversation about what I could generally do and how it worked. I explained that I was still exploring the ability and was t completely sure how it worked other than some kind of equivalent exchange from one thing into another and the price wasn’t always the same even for the same things.(that was of course a small lie)

After that things calmed down a good bit, nobody dared tell the crew what I could do and we hid things a thousand times better together than me simply doing it alone. We didn’t tell our youngest sister because she was 5 obviously or my older brother because he wasn’t here. I was obviously if needlessly told to keep my secret to the best of my ability but I guess that was expected as I was technically only 7 at the time.

I of course over the year decently well overcharged my family a bit as well but still made sure they made an extreme profit, I just wanted to make sure my systems ‘wallet’ began to stack some good coins for the future or a time of need. It’s not that I didn’t trust my family, I just wanted options left open.

By the time the Tourney of Harrenhal rolled around on me my family was fairly well known as a purveyor of high quality goods, especially spices, and good quality materials for clothes such as silk and were contracted by Lord Whent to provide lavishly for the tourney in his daughters honor. That was probably the most my family had ever made in one sitting. We even had to buy a second COG to fill its hold with goods, mostly provided by myself over a two week period.

I also had to explain to my family that while the amount I could produce didn’t exactly go up, but if I used silver stags/moons or gold dragons, I couldn’t procure drastically higher quantities, though we would make technically less profit.

This only really worked because of my ‘daily cap’ of goods I could produce. For instance a copper Star(The biggest copper coin in Westeros) could buy around a cup worth of spices depending on the spice, let’s use salt as the example for this cost table of sorts.

9 Copper Star - 1 poubd of salt

2 Silver Stag - 10 pounds of salt

2 Silver Moon - 85 pounds of salt

3 Gold dragon - 2700 pounds of salt

The price progression is steep but so is what you get for it, also it’s just BS he put out for a slush fund, the better the coin, the more he can produce and the more he can put away. Everyone wins in the end.

To put it into perspective, my family may have spent around 50 gold dragons me, even if it only cost me around 10 gold dragons, but they received well over a thousand dragons from the whents for the supplies when all told, mostly because I made materials such as silks and any other exotic materials that weren’t food stuffs quite a bit more expensive than they needed to be.

I honestly loved my new family but I also needed to be ‘paid’ and I took my payment in the form of slightly overcharging what they were massively overcharging so I didn’t feel overly bad… well until they increased my stipend to 5 gold a week for my future. That made me feel slightly bad but still I didn’t think either party was taking advantage of the other as I got what I wanted and the family as a whole made a massive profit. Honestly my yearly stipend from that alone is more than most people make in their lifetimes, probably around 250 plus dragons a year or more if I didn’t decide to trade a bit on the side.

Unfortunately being 7 years of age I wasn’t allowed to really participate much, and by that I meant explore alone, though I was allowed to watch the tourney with my parents and sisters… I may have also convinced my parents to make several hefty bets on Rhaegar for the joust and Thoros for the melee as they are the only ones that I could remember that I was fairly certain would win, which thankfully they did. My dad had bet 300 dragons on the prince and another hundred on Thoros of Myr.
