4 years ago, a company known as SoulCorp unveiled a new game at a videogame conference known as “Game of Soul.” basically, imagine a ton of unique game worlds all wrapped into one. The game was made for those that were considered to be a “jack of all trades,” because the global leaderboards tracked your SoulScore, a cumulative score derived from your scores in each individual game. Your avatar grew stronger and gained more and more buffs the higher your SoulScore went. However, your SoulBounty also grew, a number relative to your SoulScore that essentially tracked how valuable you were as a target, basically just a bounty that coincided with your SoulScore. Because of this bounty mechanic, many of the top players hid their ranks so as to not be tracked down and hunted by large platoons of players known as Geists. Since most games were multi combat zones, it paid to be part of a platoon, as you could essentially raise your personal power by simply having more powerful people carry you. When a player is bested with a large bounty, not only do the SoulScores of the combatants raise based on how much they contributed to taking down the player, but the player also loses a significant amount of SoulScore, and if they go below 0, they are permanently banned from the game. May I repeat, permanently banned. This aspect is exactly why people are now afraid to leave their homes in real life, because Game of Soul has now become real, and instead of a permanent ban, you die.
