Chapter 5: The Sieged Warehouse

Chapter 5: The Sieged Warehouse

While we were walking through the forest, towards costco, I remembered I was 52 exp points away from leveling up. Noticing this, I decided to level up before heading to costco, so I told my sis, “Hey sis, I’m going to go look for food and level up to 4 while I’m at it. Go ahead and set up camp”

“Okay bro, but be safe out there. Don’t take any chances. You’re all I have now”

With a grim half grin, I nodded and headed out. I decided to head towards the direction costco is at, so that I can do some scouting ahead at the same time. Sneaking around the brush and trees, I noticed a few boars around. When I got about 20 feet away from one, I used identify.

Wild Boar- Level 5

Health: 400/400

It’s a fucking boar. A normal fucking wild boar

"I see. So it’s a fucking boar. Makes sense." A little confused from the description, I just shook my head. “Whoever wrote these descriptions must think they’re hilarious” I said to myself. As I was about to approach and attack it, I noticed a guy about the same age as me in a tree above the boar. Deciding to watch, I crouched down. A few seconds later, after the guy, which seems to be preparing himself, he jumps off the tree and stabs the boar straight down its head, knocking it to the ground. He takes the knife back out and squirts blue blood upon himself. After the boars last cry, the guy takes up the boar and walks away, towards what I assume might be his camp. I follow him to see what he’s up to. Not too long later, he arrives at a campsite, where a girl stands up to see him. The girl says the the guy,

“Bro! You hunting a boar!? Don’t you know how dangerous that is?”

“Eh?! I thought you’d be happy?”

“Happy that you’re risking your life out there? Next time on coming with you”

After a sigh, he responded “Can’t go against you sis. You win”

Right after the short exchange, I heard a female scream to the right. The siblings looked in the same direction, nodded to each other and started running towards the scream, leaving everything behind. I followed them in a parallel line, making sure to not lose sight of them. They stopped once they entered a clearing. 50 feet behind them, I noticed a manticore the size of an average 2 story house. Seeing that, I didn’t stay for it to see me. I ran as fast as I could towards my campsite.

Arriving at my campsite in 15 minutes, frantic as fuck, I said to my sis “we have to leave now!”

“What? Why? What happened bro? Are you okay?”

“There’s a manticore”

“A what?”

“No time. We have to pack up and leave right now.”

With no further questions, we packed up our stuff in time just to hear the screaming of people of what I assume to be the siblings. With a slight remorse, I took a last look in the direction, and headed towards costco.

“We should be there soon. Just a few more miles sis” I said to my sis 2 hours after the manticore incident. While we were traveling, Sis and I hunted a few boars. I got to my level 4 quite easily by killing a few boars. I decided to save the unused points as well. I noticed that there were different colored exp for monsters. The first goblin i killed had it yellow, the werewolf had yellow green, and these boars give yellow with a little green. My theory is that different colors mean different amounts of exp gained. Green must mean a lot because I instantly leveled from the werewolf, even though I didn’t give the finishing blow. This also means that exp is split according to damage too. Sis also leveled up to 3, after I weakened and distracted the boars. She is still a noob, but she’ll come around when I teach her properly.

When we almost arrived at costco, half a mile back, I noticed something strange. I decided to tell sis to stay put, while I go scout. When I got in view of costco, my face paled, and I started sweating. What was in front of my was the worse case scenario. Around the costco, and especially at the gates, there were monsters everywhere. There were goblins, orcs, imps, minotaurs, and an undead horse rider, which I assume was also in the neighborhood we slept in before. When I turned around to head back, a werewolf was already swinging its right claw at me. I tried blocking with my unsheathed sword, but the weight of the blow knocked me away, causing me damage. I checked my hp and I was at 150/180. Even though I managed to block, I took 30 damage. I better take this monster seriously. I used identify on the werewolf.

Permanent Werewolf- Level 9

Health 700/700

Was once a man, but gave into his wolf heritage and became a permanent werewolf, never again able to shift into a man

What! This werewolf was level 9. How in the hell did my brother take this thing on at level 1. I prepared myself as the werewolf charged at me. Deciding now was a good time as ever to test out my skill, I yelled out “decapitating blow!” and my body went to the correct stance instantly, flicked out the top of the blade and proceeded the swing. The werewolf, noticing my swing a little late, tried blocking with its right wrist, but it just cut through its arm, severing it off, barely. While the wolf was howling in pain, another annoying popup came.

You have severed a hand

You have applied “Heavy Laceration” to the Permanent Werewolf

While it was distracted by a missing hand, I jumped, turned my blade upwards, and stabbed down onto the werewolfs head, instantly killing it. Checking my exp to see the difference, I was at 155/2000 at level 4, but now I’m at 855/2000. The exp on these werewolves are great, but they’re really strong and it probably has to do with the level difference. After wiping the blood off my blade, I decided to scout around the costco to see what i could use. There were a bunch of cars in the parking lot, and at the other side of the parking lot from costco, is the costco gas station. I walked around the whole perimeter of costco, being wary to avoid any monsters. There were 2 garage doors for the main entrances, and an exit on each side of the building for emergencies. Seeing all there is to see, I decided to head back to where Sis was. When I got to her, she asked

“So whats going on?”

“There’s monsters all around the building.

“Is your mom alright?”

“I don’t know. I think everybody is holed up inside of it. We need to get them out.”

“But how bro?”

I give her a savage grin.

“I’ve got a plan.”
