-----Nick's POV-----
I've been sitting in this seat contemplating my next move for the past hour, my top priority right now is increasing my organization's ring of influence but I also want to go have a chat with my lovely professor.
Sighing, I got up and headed for the door. Stepping into the hallway onto the black and white tiles, I flexed my toes and felt the cold tiles beneath my feet.
I looked down at myself and made an effort to wipe the blood off of my bare chest but gave up half way when the task got too tedious. Sniffing the air, Scar along with another unfamiliar individuals' scents wafted into my nose causing my brows to furrow.
Following my nose through the winding hallways and passing numerous doors, I arrived at the intelligence room. Pushing open the door, I was met by the sight of a grinning Scar and a grinning lady I did not recognize. Maybe this is an alternate dimension I've walked into....yeah that's it.
Seeing me, Scar immediately stood up with a guilty expression on his face "Nick! We were just- I was -" he stumbled over his words much to my amusement.
"It's fine Scar" I said with a smile "you don't have to explain yourself to me, I am not one to get in the way of young love" I said to him which caused him to relax, his lady friend, however, snorted in amusement before responding
"What do you know about love kid?" she asked in a cool yet dismissive tone, I stared at her for a few minutes before sighing and ignoring her comment, turning to scar I said "Look up the name Veronica Weekes, would you? Oh, and while you're at it also look up the name Emily Waller. "
I closed the door after receiving a nod of confirmation, I stood outside the room for a few minutes with my eyes closed, I felt like too much had been happening recently and I just need a moment to center myself.
Inhaling deeply, I listened to the sounds of my environment. I took in all the smells and the sounds, everything, my ears twitched when I heard the sounds of soft sobbing.
Opening my eyes, I honed in on the sound and tracked its location to Eren's room, knocking on his door the sounds of sobbing suddenly stopped and was replaced by the sounds of hurried movement entered my ears.
After a few minutes, Eren opened the door and I could see the redness of his irises and smell the salty smell coming from him, as much as he tried to hide it I knew the kid had been crying.
"Wanna talk about it?" I asked seriously, he smiled at me but shook his head in denial "Nah, I'm not much of a talker" he said, of all the ridiculous things I had heard over the years that one had taken the cake.
Regardless of my thoughts, however, my expression did not change "Want to go to a.......ummm" I struggled to recall where it was humans went to drown their sorrows, Scar had told me once but the word had slipped my mind.
"Anime Con?!" he asked hopefully "Yeah that" I said with a small smile, catching some of his excitement. He hurried back into the room and changed his shirt before coming back out in a black hoodie with a picture of a man with elongated canines in a red trench coat with round red-tinted shades and a red hat to match, on his hands were white gloves with an encircled pentagram and in his hands were two Berettas.
I raised an eyebrow at him but opted to keep any questions I might have to myself, leading the way out of the mansion I stopped one of my subordinates to tell him to tell scar I was going out with Eren and I'd be back soon.
Making our way to the courtyard, we hopped into the pickup truck and left.
-----Emily POV-----
"No Bern, I'll be fine" I said for what felt like the thousandth time "are you sure? I can take the day off and-" I sighed and rubbed the bridge of my nose as I listened to Bernie ramble on and on.
As I continued to listen to Bernie ramble, the front door unlocked and opened with a creak.
"Bern, I'll call you back" I said before quickly hanging up and grabbing the gun from under my pillow. I cautiously made my way to my bedroom door and hid behind the doorway, placing a hand on the knob, I quickly opened the door and leveled my gun at the front door after diving out my bedroom.
"Heeeeeeeey Emmuuhlllliii!" I sighed when I saw my sister wobbling in place in the doorway, she looked like she was trying to walk on a tightrope.
I sighed and put the gun in my boxer before walking towards my sister and leaning her on my shoulder.
"another late night, Alice?" I asked her but only got a giggle in response, I sighed once more and helped her to her bedroom where I proceeded to help her undress and slip into a nightgown.
I stood over her and watched her stomach rise and fall steadily before leaving the room to grab a bucket and placing it at the side of her bed in case she needed to release the contents of her stomach from their acidic prison.
'I feel like I've been sighing a whole lot more lately' I thought to myself as I made my way back to my bedroom. I took my gun out of my boxer and placed it back under my pillow, I took off my shirt with some difficulty and changed into a black pantsuit and a brown knee length coat.
I walked out of my room and into the living room, grabbing my keys off of the counter I headed straight for the door. Stepping outside, the warm, first rays of the sun caressed my face, I closed my eyes while wondering why everyone doesn't wake up this early.
Opening my eyes slowly, I allowed a small smile to spread across my face before getting into my car.
-----One Hour Later-----
Pulling up to the station, I got out of my car and greeted some of the other officers arriving with me. Walking to the entrance turned out to be quite a task 'was the door always this far?' I wondered as I finally made it to the door and entered.
I made my way past the chief's office as stealthily as an injured person could, I got to the stairs leading down to the lab and was about to take the first step
"Waller!!" I heard a loud voice shout from behind me, I slowly turned and saw an angry, wrinkled, bearded face glaring at me. His half-closed eyelids suggested he had seen many sleepless nights, his hazel eyes scanned me while sweat glistened off of his dark skin and his gray dread hung loosely over his shoulders.
"why are you here?" he asked, his tired but deep voice rumbled out "I-I came to-"
"Why are you here?" he asked again before I could finish "I came to-" but yet again he interrupted me before I could finish "well whatever the reason, hurry up and go home and get some rest.....that's an order" he said in the process of walking away.
"yes, sir" I said saluting his departing back. Continuing down the stairs, I made my way past several labs until I came upon the familiar blue door with a sloppily hand-painted star on the open door.
Knocking on the door I entered the room and saw the figure of Bernie hunched over a table examining a corpse.
"Who's our jane doe?" I asked causing him to spin around and stare at me with wide eyes "When did you get here?!" he shouted in surprise.

I smiled and pulled a chair up beside him and asked: "what are you looking at?" to which he replied with enthusiasm "The victim has several long gashes running from her left breast to her right hip, probably caused by a long blade judging by how deep the gashes are. Her ankles and femurs are crushed, suggesting something heavy landed on her or she fell from a great height. Her left arm has bruises, which means someone grabbed her with force but the strangest thing of all"
Bernie got up and walked to the woman's head, placing his hands on her lips he spread it open and revealed a toothless mouth. Emily gasped and put her hands to her mouth which caused her to wince in pain "I know, that's not the most interesting part though" Bernie continued as his enthusiasm was almost tangible.
"Judging by her sunken stomach and extremely thin waist suggest she died of starvation and by the lack of blood in her gums, her teeth were removed after she died, several hours after it would seem"
"So you're saying someone found the victim and removed her teeth? Why?" I asked genuinely interested "I don't know, I'm not omniscient you know" Bernie replied while taking off his gloves.
"Anyway, I know you didn't come into work today to ask about some random dead girl, what do you need?" He asked, always the vigilant one.
"Do you have anything else you can give me about our suspect Nicholas Lupine? While you're at it search for an Eren Fargas please"
He gave me a long stare before he shook his head and just gave in, his fingers flew across the keyboard so quickly my eyes could barely keep up. Turning to face me he said: "The search is gonna take a while, I suggest you go home and try and relax" I groaned and rolled my eyes at the thought of just laying around doing nothing.
Bernie, seeing my reluctance to go back home took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes, staying silent for a while he finally asked: "Do you still like those Japanese cartoons you used to watch as a kid?" my eyes lit up at the question and he chuckled seeing my reaction "I'll take that as a yes then, there's something going on downtown, alimae clon? amine tom? You know I'm not good with names"
"Anime Con?!?!" I asked with unbridled excitement in my voice "yes.....that. Anyway, I think you should go." He turned back to his computer and watched the screen intently like his favorite show was on, that was his signal for: the conversation is over.
"See ya Bern, I guess" I said as I walked out the door and back up the stairs. I made my way past the chief's office and gave my farewell before leaving the station.
If you stood close enough to me you could feel the excitement coming off of my body
'Here I come Anime Con!' I thought as I drove off with a smile on my face
