CHAPTER 4- Determination
The three of them stood at the front, while the last one stayed back, elbows on the rails and a smug smile on his face.
“Hey, this is the ‘spider’s nest’ shop? Heh, what a dumb name.” the front most said.
My eyelid twitched a little at that. ‘What’s with this generic thug piece of shit thug? Seriously?’
“Oy, is it or not? We don’t have all day!” Thug B said.
“Yes, it is.” I sighed.
Thug C tried to force himself inside, but ended up bouncing back of me, and falling back on his ass. Thug A, disliking that, pulled a brass knuckle from his pocket and punched me on the face. Although the impact hurt, and probably will leave a mark, I am still unmoved, feeling like a very painful insect bit me. Thug B tried to join the fray, but the one who stood back, stopped him.
“Ooh, so you have some skill? Maybe an Inherited power? Doesn’t matter anyway. We came to collect your protection fees and the starting extra, but it seems we found a new recruit!” He said, still with the fucking smile. The others laughed at that.
“And why the fuck would I go with you?” I said, gritting my teeth in annoyance.
“Well, you have such a nice place don’t you? Looks very cozy.” He looked inside over my shoulders. At this moment, Mimi waddled to my side and chirped threateningly, flapping her wings, trying to make herself look bigger.
“And what do we have here? So cute, your little pet. And I heard you live with someone else? Wouldn’t want them to get hurt would you?” He said, trying and failing to pet Mimi who did her best to bit his fingers off. “Arrg, Little shit!”
‘Fuck. Again, with this bullshit. If not heroes then gangs, or villains.’ I closed my fist in anger. My teeth gnashed so much my head hurt.
“Do it.” I heard Helen voice from inside the house. ‘That’s right, I’m not alone anymore. We’ll be fine as long as we face it together’. Making my choice, I moved.
Grabbing the smug fucker by the head I threw him with all my force inside.
CRASH.
The other ABC thugs, so surprised by the turn of events, didn’t even react when I attacked then. I hit one with a hook on the chin, likely breaking his bones, and he flew to the rails. Thug C jumped me as Thug B ran away. A quick punch to the gut took him out easily.
“I’LL KILL YOU MOTHERFUCKER!” I looked back only to see the smug thug rising up, his hands taking a yellow glow. Before he could point them at me, however, Helen dropped from the ceiling, pistol whipping him in the back of the head.
I turned my attention to thug B. The piece of shit was fast, I’ll give him that. In the space of this fight, he already was some ten meters away from the building. Transforming part of the yard in a thin, rocky tentacle, I caught him, covering his mouth, and pulled him back.
“Hum, HUmm, HUM!” He tried to say something, shaking and squirming, as I gripped his head in my hand.
After restoring the yard to normal, I threw the thugs inside, and closed the door behind me.
==============================================================
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
The situation was dire. Although these gangsters weren’t much, they still were a part of a bigger organization. One with enough man power to send a powered to make rounds on the neighborhood.
Helen didn’t waste time tying and gagging the thugs up with her web. After she was finished they looked like victims in a terror movie, ready to be eaten by some monster. We threw them in a pile, taking the only one of them awake for a quick interrogation session.
“No, no, no, I’m sorry man, I didn’t mean to. I was forced man.” Before we even did anything, he was already begging. ‘I guess a giant spider woman in a dark, webbed room can be pretty scary.’ I looked back for a moment and quickly turned back. The face she was making was scary even for me.
“Which gang you’re from?” said Helen, taking control of the situation. “The Wyrms from Cisoft East? The Bronze Moths?” The man babbled incoherently. “Speak!” she snarled, poking his chest with one of her VERY point legs. The walls can attest to that.
I put my hand on her shoulder. She looked back a little miffed, but took a step back. I sat at the table and looked down at him for a moment, before speaking up.
“Look, just tell us who you work for. It will be easier for everyone if you do. And maybe we’ll even let you go.” I say, trying to be the good cop. Helen’s head perked up in understanding.
The thug looked down, licking his lips in nervousness.
“I-I’m from the moths. I don’t know anything man, just let me go please.” He begged again, his voice just a whisper.
“And who is the blond idiot? Someone important?”
“No. He’s just a newbie. His powers aren’t even that good. Just some concussing blasts.” He responds, spilling everything.
I look down in thought, biting my fingers. ‘Shit, what should we do about them? If we let them go they’ll just come with reinforcements.’
“Did anyone know you were coming here?” Asked Helen, her eyes full of determination.
“N-No. The smug idiot wanted to gain fame, so he went around without warning anyone. Said he wanted to be ‘proactive’.” Said the man, looking bitter, almost spitting the last word.
Helen then gagged him, knocked him out and threw him in the pile.
“We have to kill them.” Helen said before I could speak. “No one will link them to us, and they won’t be missed. The moths are a big gang here on Central. They will either crush us or we’ll live on the run.” She said, biting her lips, arms crossed. “I’ll not let them take you from me.” She them looks away. “I understand if you hate me for suggesting this, with your family being heroes and all.” She turned back, looking directly in my eyes. “I can do it. I’ve done it before and can do it again.”
‘Fuck. So it comes to this, huh. In both my lives I have been taught not to. Heck, what would my family think? They probably would put me in prison themselves. Heh. But what can I do? The only other options is losing what’ve built, our little peace. My family isn’t racist, but a lot of their friends are. I don’t think Helen would be happy living in that enviorment. And besides, her family wouldn’t like that one bit. Especially when they discovered she has Awakened. The heroes would not let her ‘squander’ her talents. She stills loves some of them and would hate fighting her sisters.’
I feel a hand on my shoulder, and look up to Helen’s crying face.
“Y-You don’t need to worry, I can do it all on my own.”
Fuck, what am I doing?
I get up and give her the biggest hug I can. I look up, my head reaching only her breasts.
“Sorry dear. I was just thinking.” I said, drying her tears. “I would never think less of you for that Helen. I love you, you are much more important than anything else.” She nods, returning the hug with even more intensity.
We spent a moment in each other’s arms, gathering our determination to protect our little family. We apart, as Helen went to gather our old covers.
‘It’s a shame I can’t manipulate living matter. But alas, no one can. And I can’t wait long enough for all their cells die.’
Helen spread the blankets on the floor as I moved the thugs on it.
After we were done, The spider girl raised her legs and pierced blondie’s and Thug C’s hearts. Before she moved on to the others, I held her back.
“I told you’ll not do this alone.” I say. She gives me a nod an steps back.
Like her, I pierce their hearts it a spear made from the floor. I them remove a fine layer of material from the ground into ball, removing any evidence or DNA.
“Should we bury them on the yard? I can go pretty deep with it.” I asked.
“No, there are capes that can detect the seismic activity from that. And others who can detect the bodies if they search here. We have to get them far away from here.”
“Okay. I’ll clean outside and start the van while you pack them. We can bury them in the wilds. I think we had a request from a farm outside, so it can serve as an alibi.”
I left the apartment and searched for any observers. No finding any, I cleaned everything, Once more gathering the materials into a ball. Finished, I went to prepare the van.
