Awakening

CHAPTER 1

Walking down through the streets to my home, I stop by an empty nearby park. The night was cool, with a nice draft flowing through the city. A stark comparison to the otherwise hot and dry climate present in the day, one of the perks of living in a desert metropolis. I hold back a yawn as I sit on a bench. Night jobs really take a toll on anyone’s health. Not that eating instant pasta every day for lunch helps. With all the fast food I eat, the only thing I can afford really, I would be fat if not for my morning jogs to keep my form.

Being a clerk in a 24h store was not what I would think I would be doing when I reincarnated here. Especially when I learned what kind of world I was in. But that’s the price of independence. That’s the price of being the runt in a superhero family. I don’t want to lead life in the shadows of my siblings, forced to live to others expectations. Besides, the whole hero shtick was not really my thing, especially after going to that hero school. What am I in? A fucking anime?  Not that there is such a thing as a power of friendship bullshit over here, with all that corruption going of the governors of the poleis. Well, maybe there is with how absurd the gaining of power in this world.

The night starts to get colder so I rise up and begin to head home. I start moving to the side walk when I green blur passes through me so fast that I doubt I would survive a collision. Not a second passes when another one, this time red flies silent through the air. Uh oh. I jump to the ground with my hands protecting my head when the air splits apart, shockwaves breaking the windows of the houses, spreading glass everywhere like a storm.

I rise up, dizziness clouding my thoughts. I check my body for wounds but find only scrapes, likely caused by my jump for cover. Another flash and a masked man, in disgustingly green spandex, looking not older than twenty stops in front of me. His lips moves but I can’t hear anything. Did that bitch burst my eardrums!? The man gives a look that promises a bad time, so I start to run, but by then is too late. He is behind me, one hand holding my neck and the other vibrating extremely fast. A few moments later she appears. Floating above the ground, white hair flowing around her like we’re under water. Wearing a white and black suit, with a red sun adorning her chest, she looks down on us with a bored look.

I still can’t hear a thing they’re saying so I start to plan my escape. I drop a few seeds on the ground, thankfully still on the dirt ground of the park. I concentrate and will them do grow. I still am unable to do anything flashy, but growing some vines over someone’s foot is within my capabilities.

Their confrontation seems to come to an end as the amazoness raises a glowing hand and shoots a blast at me. Burning pain spreads through my shoulder as the man pushes me down with a surprised shout.

“-uck!”

He tries to run away but trips on my vines. The woman hits in inhumanely fast, knocking him out instantly. She puts him over her shoulders. And look downs at me;

“-light wounds. Just apply some ointment and it will be fine.”

She turns back without a second look and flies away with her prisoner. I remain at the ground and grind my teeth in anger, grasping at the dirt. Fuck! These fucking hypocrites, walking around posing as the paragons of humanity while doing shit like this! It’s exactly why I left for here, to become invisible in this city. I start to rise up when the world disappears from my sight.
