Gacha Goblin
Prologue

Prologue

The dark and murky cave was dyed a pitch-black, not a single speck of light reached this depth. The walls were damp and the air was moist, sounds of dripping water also echoed throughout. These conditions proved that no one can thrive in this place, or at least none had yet to try. But in this farthermost reach, one peculiar cry sounded.

It was a mix of gargling and nonsensical sound, which indicated a spark of living. However, it was not exactly one would think. Lying on the rocky surface was a hideous creature, colored green and have a sharp, jagged teeth.

In most literary works that discusses other world beings, it is what they refer to as a Goblin. Lowly fodders that are meant to be killed at the start of each adventures, only to be forgotten as the story progresses deeper. And in some cases where they are described in a more elaborate form, an idiotic existence that is driven by instinctual desire to procreate.

It is for this reason why their numbers are culled and is despised by many. They are simply regarded as mindless beings that is parasitic in nature. However, unlike its predecessors or race in general, this one had clear sentience evident from within its eyes.

After grasping the situation, the Goblin had quickly stopped its tantrum and stared directly in one point. It made numerous gestures on the space, seemingly trying to access something invisible. From an outsider's perspective, it seemed as though that it was fiddling in the air. But looking from its own angle, a translucent screen was hovering at arm's length.

Naturally as a newborn, the Goblin had no indication as to what was the definition for the contents of the status. It can only have a rough understanding for their purpose even with high intelligence. As such, it would take some time until it learns everything from the ground up. After all, experience speaks for knowledge, and it could always be dealt with later on.

The bigger issue was that it knew nutrients is needed to survive, but similar to its earlier ignorance, it had also no clue how to obtain food whatsoever. All it could do was squirm around and look in all direction, trying its luck to find something worth a value. Unfortunately, this futile attempt only served to drain its energy, worsening the situation.

Gradually, not only its hunger grew more intensely, but there was also a dry sensation forming in its throat. For the first few hours, this feeling was sort of trivial. However, it quickly became unbearable to the point that it knew that it was going in a fatal condition.

Thinking of this, it began to struggle once more. But alas, no significant progress was made. Then, as it was about to give up, a droplet of water landed on its lips.

"Ufck!" the Goblin shrieked, leaking a startled voice.

It hastily wiped off the water off of its face, and soon regretted this action.

Judging from the abrupt announcement that popped up, the wet object had a great importance. Knowing this, it had the sudden urge to taste it out.

It looked up directly and opened its mouth, chancing for another droplet to fall. Doing this for about a minute, the Goblin had finally caught one.

Although not by a wide margin, it somehow alleviated the drying sensation. Feeling much accomplished, it let out a wide grin albeit a disgusting one. It then repeated the same action over and over until it passed out from the exhaustion.

Congratulations!
