----------------------------------------
Ryan, a 97 year old Magic Researcher from the Kingdom of Indiesa, had never been so vexed before. If he were to said that his understanding about magic was only ranked second in the world, then there would be no one who dares to claim the first ranked position.
Yet currently, he was facing the biggest challenge ever since he began researching magic.
Born as a commoner in a poor family, Ryan have no affinities whatsoever with any elements of magic in the world. He felt envious for those magus that could freely control elements to their liking and lived their unfettered lives.
Fueled by his envy, he began to trod the path of magic as an apprentice magic researcher at his teens by leaving his family and worked hard at the kingdom's capital.
At first, his ultimate goal was to become one of those noble and respected magus, for that was the best and fastest way to get rich and famous. Anyway, what kind of man had never dreamed of getting surrounded by their wealth and a flock of beautiful women?
As time goes by, however, his ultimate goal slightly differed from his original one. The more he learned about magic, the more fascinated he became.
Enormous amount of fame and fortune had continuously came as his research results got recognized more and more, and by the time he realized, Ryan had been acknowledged as the one with the best understanding of magic in the world, save for the fact that he himself was unable to use magic.
Never once did he stopped his research other than the time when he mourned the death of his parent, thus it was not wrong to say that all his life was dedicated to his research of magic, so much that he could instantly understand the logic behind any spell he saw.
And that was the thing that troubled him so much currently. He could understand any magic. At least, he thought he could.
"Hmm... "
Looking at the palm-sized, ever-changing blob of light in front of him, Ryan couldn't help but frowned. He doesn't understand, what might be wrong in his theory.
If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
"No, my theory shouldn't be wrong," murmured Ryan. His voice sounds old and tired, yet the pride and his self-confidence could also be clearly felt.
"If I succeeded, then I should've been able to wield magic by controlling this custom-made elemental."
Just as he was about to once again activate the complex-looking magic formation that he had previously installed in his basement room, a small, quivering voice called out from one corner of the room.
"M-master, I think... y-you should've stopped doing this... ritual? I -I mean, this is clearly not the realm of magic anymore, but... " a beautiful woman in her twenties fearfully advised her master as she watched on, but Ryan cut her words short.
"Hush, of course I know it, I am trying to create a life, after all. This is the realm of creation, the divine domain of God. If we goes by the words of those Church's bunch, a taboo it is. " Ryan waved his hand in a leisure manner as he said nonchalantly. Then he proceeded to activate the formation as he said, "It's too bad, I'm not a believer though. "
As the magic formation began to lit, the whole basement began to tremble hard. From the outside, however, there's no sign of anything happening as all the trembling were contained within the basement, courtesy of a custom-made barrier by Ryan. Even the strongest magus wouldn't feel anything other than the flow of mana of the whole continent getting thinner for no apparent reason...
...
Strange stuff began to occur for magicians across the continent.
...
"Burn my opponent to ash, Hellfi... re? What the hell, why is it bean-sized!? "
...
"F#@/, why is it that my flying sword suddenly getting unstable? Oh? I'm falling? EEEYAAAAAKKK!? "
...
"W-w-why is my wife turned to macho guy all of a sudden!? "
"My illusion magic!? Ah, husband, I can explain this, you see... "
"noooOOOOOO!?!?"
...
Back in the basement.
Ryan's old body shivered in excitement as he could clearly felt the newly built connection between himself and the blob... no, his elemental!
The beautiful woman in the back stared blankly at the scene with mouth agape.
'He succeeded? Master really succeeded in creating a new life? Just by relying on his magic formation!?'
"Gohahaha, as I thought, my theory is perfect, after all!" Ryan shed happy tears as he thought back about all his hardships until now.
He was about to reach his ultimate goal of wielding magic to his liking!
Yet as he was reminiscing about the past, he could feel something terribly wrong happening to him.
The world around him suddenly twisted as he barely saw an old body, possibly his own body, collapsed on the floor, before everything turns black.
