Ch.32

Author's note: I am so sorry that this has taken me so long! I keep getting inspiration for the stories I'm not actually writing yet instead of this one. I am abjectly apologetic.

Wait a second.

"I'm fighting so who will be the referee?"

"I will be the referee-"

"Nah, I don't trust you Adalric. Miss Melody~ would like to ref for us?"

I blink when I hear that. Wow, Ferris really doesn't like Adalric. Adalrics face fell into a look of poison before he regained control of it, changing into a look of mild hurt. He took offense, but to be fair Ferris is probably doing it to slight him.

"I'm sorry, but I'm a bit tired. I would prefer to take this time to rest if you don't mind."

"Aww~ Oh well. Chaise~ who do you think should ref?"

"Not Clover, he wants to see me lose,-"

"Of course"

No mercy, Clover is never far when I fail at something. Like that time I climbed a tree to get an apple and fell on my head. He's still laughing at me for that.

"-so Jacob would you mind being our referee?"

He looks up and silently nods. We take are places out on the field. Ferris crouches like his sister, but turns his sword edge out away from himself, sword parallel to his side. I stand the way I always do when I'm preparing to fight a person.

"Aren't you going to take a stance, or even use some weapons?"

Ferris says this lightly, but he is a little peeved at my behavior.

Instead of settling into a stance, like most people do, I casually stand slightly sideways, hands down at my sides. I don't think Ferris can even see the daggers I'm holding. The reason for this is so that my stance can't be used to tell how I will act or react. It tends to anger people though, they think I'm snubbing them.

"I do have my weapons."

I flick my wrists to bring my daggers farther into my hands and show him them.

"Besides this is my stance."

"Oh, sorry for my assumption."

I shrug to show I don't mind and then glance at Jacob, Ferris does too.

"Contestants ready? Fight."

"Fleet feet, Accelerate"

As soon as the fight starts Ferris short chants a neutral attributed body enhancement spell.

"Gale force"

I use the spell to launch myself forward. Ducking, I dodge Ferris's slash and continue the tumble to try and strike Ferris with my heels. He turns so that my blow passes him, moving to slash diagonally upwards at me while I regain my balance. I turn on my hands and flip over him and his sword. An exchange of slashes, stabs, and ripostes of minor spells begin and lasts for a time. I breath the words fire and shadow in a silent cast. A puff of flames appears around us before quickly dispersing and a shadow moves through it in front of Ferris. I was making a distraction. My daggers cross paths in an attempt to attack his back where I had slide to while he watched the shadow. Though not deep they draw blood. He stumbles a step forward, muttering what sounds like a curse under his breath. No. I was wrong. He cast a spell. Vines wrap around my ankles and he whips around with a slash aimed at my midriff. I bend back at a ninety degree angle, cutting the vines with my daggers as I lean back. I turned the momentum from moving like that into a kick. My toes connect with his chin, lifting him inches into the air. I pivot on my grounded foot and bring my heel back down crashing into him in an axe kick. I then jump off of one foot and twist into a flying roundhouse kick. The blows stun him and leave him lying on the ground. I place a knee on his stomach and cross my arms to plant my daggers on either side of his neck.

"Winner Chaise!"

We neither of us move for a moment. I catch my breath quickly while Ferris takes a bit longer. Our fight had lasted a good five minutes.

I get up and dust of my pants. Offering my hand, Ferris accepts and I help him up.

"Good fight."

We both say and shake hands. We now respect each other more for it.

I let out a laugh and grin. I love having spars like this. It lets you learn so much about people. Ferris is much more straightforward than he usually acts. I think we can really get along.

I do a few stretches to cool down and then thank Jacob for refereeing for us.

"Okay! That was fun~, and it's time for the next fight! Clover, Jacob, it's your turn now."
