Chapter 21

After finishing their notes and drawings, they were preparing to leave when Tibaut remembered something.

“Hey, Yuri, do you have any idea what this place is made of?” Tibaut asked.

The Saint raised an eyebrow. “It's stone isn't it?”

“For once you've asked a good question, Tibaut,” Elizabeth responded. “I'm curious about it as well. We had quite a nasty battle, yet the floor looked untouched.”

“If you two are curious, I guess I'll check it out.”

The priest pulled out a knife and gave the pair a good look.

“This is an orichalcum, mithril and magnetite alloy knife. It's as strong as a diamond, so it should be a good indicator of strength.”

He pushed the blade into the floor, his muscles straining before he gave up.

“Woah, are you sure you can do that with all those stitches?” Tibaut asked.

Elizabeth pinched his side and he recoiled.

“Aw, why’d you-”

She moved her mouth to his ear and whispered, “Some things are better left unasked.”

Yuri waved Elizabeth off. “Come on Elizabeth, it's not that serious. But, I don't think I'm the best indicator for something like this, could you try?” He asked as he wiped the sweat off his brow.

“Of course,”

She took the knife out of his hand and pushed against the ground with little success as well. She even scraped the tip of the blade against the floor and to her shock, it ground part of it away.

“I'm sorry, Saint Nichto.” She handed him the damaged blade.

“It's fine, it's just a survival knife.” He took it and placed it back in a sheathe on his leg. His arm started to glow a white light and he pressed it against the floor. Not even a second after touching the floor his hand was flying in the opposite, launching him off the ground.

He landed on his feet but looked at his hand in amazement.

“Are you alright, Saint Nichto!?”

“I'm good but… I've never gotten a reaction like that out of an exorcism. It's magnetite but this is an alloy of it I'm unfamiliar with.” He flicked his hand while looking all around them. “Lucifer, Beelzebub or Bael, this place had to belong to one of them.” He muttered under his voice.

“What was that Yuri?” Tibaut asked.

“Oh, don't mind me, I'm just mumbling about the paperwork I'll have to do when I get back to the main cathedral. Sigh.”

The trio were now at their final stop, the throne room Tibaut had brushed past on his first visit.

(“Most definitely, this place belonged to Lucifer. This is the first time I've seen a throne of theirs in person.”)

He thought as he looked inside the room. The stone carvings on the wall told him all he needed to know. And added yet another headache.

“Tibaut, could you leave this room for a moment.”

“Huh? Okay. (I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner.)” He quickly exited the room with the pale woman by his side. When he went outside, he couldn't help but wonder where the others were, as the sole pale woman monopolised his body.

“So how does my translation of this slate hold up, Saint Nichto?”

He turned his attention to a slate that seemed to be a message to other demons in this dungeon.

“Pretty darn accurate. You even got a few things I struggled with, like calling humanity a sickness. Considering the Marrow of Lucifer inhabited this dungeon, I believe it's safe to say that Lucifer has decided to use humanity instead of her demons. Please keep this between us, princess. Only a few groups in the nation even know the cultists’ name let alone their goal. What happened with your group here was a confirmation of her change in strategy.”

“You have my silence, Saint (It seems that god gave him a few gifts),” Elizabeth answered.

With the sun shining brightly above their heads, they exited the dungeon.

“Thank you for both of your times. I'll be leaving for quite some time, so keep yourselves safe and tell me of any strange developments in the dungeon.”

“We were glad to help,” Elizabeth said.

“Stop by anytime, I wouldn't mind training with you sometime,” Tibaut said.

“I'll try, now let's get you guys back to your…”

As he looked at Tibaut he noticed something rubbing against his leg. It was a creature with the body of a wolf, with a rabbit-like head.

“Oh, it's Bellus.” The Saint said as he picked it up by its scruff. Tibaut wasted no time rubbing its belly when it was lifted.

“Are you familiar with it, Saint Nichto?” Elizabeth asked.

“Yes, it seems to have an affinity for me. I had a theory why but given he has no problem playing with your two, I might be off.”

He gently placed the creature down and the creature immediately appeared on his shoulders, using him as a perch of some sort.

“(It still doesn't seem any less weird how it can just appear somewhere.) I thought he was just taunting us. (After all, I did talk about eating it and Elizabeth tried to cut it with her sword.)” Tibaut stated.

“I don't think he's capable of any malice.” He tried to take him off but he soon appeared at Elizabeth’s feet. She scratched its chin and it happily wagged its tail.

“Then why’d he do it?”

“I originally thought it had something to do with my relationship with Uriel.”

“Really? Is it an animal related to Uriel?”

“No, no. I believed it had something to do with my divinity. You wouldn't know it but there are a lot of times I've encountered a beast or hidden glyphs because of the energy I receive from Uriel. It's almost as if some animals have a sense for anything divine, including me.” He stated.

Elizabeth couldn't help but freeze briefly at his words while Tibaut looked on oblivious.

“But you two, while strong, are pretty regular, so I guess it's not that. (After what happened to me, I can see why Elizabeth might be hesitant to tell me or anyone else she's a Saint. I could sense it as soon as I met her but I guess she hasn't mastered her power enough to sense me or anything else divine. Tibaut's a lot stranger. At first, I thought he consumed some of the powder those guys use but when I left them alone I felt whatever’s within him flare up. I can tell it's similar but distinct to the demonic aura in the dungeon. Well, they can keep their secrets, the last thing I'd want is them ending up like me.)”

“Indeed.” Elizabeth meekly responded. Though it'd only seem meek if you knew her secret.
