Volume 1 Advent of a Hero
Chapter 7 Defense of Calradea
Romulus got out of the capsule and stretched a bit. Then he went to the dojo. There, his granpa was already swinging a sword.
"You are late."
Said his granpa while wiping sweats off of his face.
"Sorry granpa."
He then put on his training garb. Picked up a wooden sword and started his daily training routine.
"Hya! Ha-hya! Ha-ha-hya-ha!"
After a while, Romulus is already sweating lots.
"That's enough, rest a bit then we'll have a spar. Let's see what you have gained from playing the video game."
His granpa watched every moves and forms he executed and see no wrong. Then asked him to spar.
Romuls rested and prepared himself for the sparring.
"Hhhhhhhhhup-hooooooooooo. I'm ready master."
He then took the "Falcon" stance. He's holding the long sword overhead.
"Hmm. Good stance. Defense and counter eh. Let's see if it'll work."
His granpa then put his sword on the side of his waist.
'A quick draw huh.'
Thought Romulus. Then his granpa lunge forward.
Seeing the motion of his master, he reacted by bringing down his sword to block the strike for his right side. And he was able to block it, barely.
Without losing the momentum of his attack, his granpa lunch another strike.
Gritting his teeth, Romulus blocked another attack. But then another attack, this time he wasn't lucky. The attack struck his side just below the ribs. But that was his gamble, he also struck his granpa but missed.
Then suddenly, he was looking at the ceiling.
It was blow just grazing his chin, but enough to knock him down and out.
"You're merciless master."
He said when he regained his consciousness.
"Not everyone will be merciful. You are still lacking. Train more, either here or in the game. It should be possible to train inside the game right?"
Said his granpa lecturing him then giving him a hand to stand.
"Alright, training's enough. That should do it for today. Learn to focus more and concentration, remember that."
"Yes master."
He bowed then left the dojo while touching and feeling that pain on his side.
"Ow, that really hurts."
He then went and took a shower. After shower, he went to the internet and check on a forum from a website named The FORGE.
"The FORGE" is the official website of the game.
There he searched for news and other stuffs.
"Hmmm, anything about the "Goblin King's Feast" event?"
He then went to the "Events" thread, there, he found many events that the game has to offer.

He's getting frustrated as he could not find the event concerning the goblin king. But there's still many events, so he did not give up easily.
Goblin King's FeastOnce a year, during harvest time, a Goblin Lord who had risen in rank to become the goblin king would raise his army to wreak havoc through out the lands. Where? No one knows until the goblin army actually shows up. Orks can actually participate in the goblin army as mercenaries.EffectGoblins and Hobgoblins that are part of the Goblin King's army would increase their attack power and attack speed by 200%. Physical and Magic defense increases by 150%. Orks who would participate will also gain this effects.Experience and Reputation gained is doubled.
There, he found the event. Unfortunately, he did not find what he really wanted to know. It was if the event would trigger on its own or if it could be triggered. Or any other explanation regarding triggering the event.
But its still good information nonetheless.
After that, he logs back into the game.
He woke up inside the barracks, Remus was also there beside his bed. He gently scratched Remus' head.
Then he checked himself, he gained many levels after their "raid" in that dungeon.

(TN: So I did change Romulus' avatar's race. And some other little tweaks here and there.)
Then his belly grumbled.
Satiety
Dangerously low. Get something to eat right away.
"Right, shall we go to the mess hall, Remus?"
He looked at Remus and petted him. Then Remus' belly growled.
"Yeah, and you're hungry too. Come on, let's go."
They then walked out of their camp. He noticed that the barracks was almost empty.
"Hmmmm."
They arrived at the mess hall, luckily the cook was still there. As soon as he entered the cook looked at him intensely.
"What are you doing here? You should be at the walls defending."
"We---we're hungry? I mean, how can we defend the walls with empty stomachs?"
Romulus still did not get what the cook was talking about but he just went with it.
"Right. Then sit. Wait, I'll just prepare something for you and your pet."
The cook then went to the kitchen and heated some already cooked food.
Then gave them to Romulus and Remus.
"So.... Why are we defending the walls?"
He was afraid to ask but asked anyway.
"What?"
The cook then sat across him.
"Tsk, Dakt the Goblin King, is besieging the city. I know that Goblin Kings would attack somewhere, but never expected them here. And too early too. It's still not harvest season. I wonder why?"
He stood and gave a Romulus worried look.
"We're not that prepared for something like this. The recruit's training have just began."
Then finally left Romulus and Remus alone. But he went back to them and gave Romulus a sack bag.
"Here, rations--for when you go to the walls. It might be long drawn out battle. You'll be needing food and you can't just leave your position."
"Many thanks!"
After their meal, Romulus got up and headed out, Remus followed.
Romulus and Remus then wandered around the city, many users scrambling around. There's not that many users in Calradea, only a few thousands because Calradea is a fringe city.
Users going on buying and repairing their equipment. Buying potions and ammunition.
He spotted his raid party group gathering at the square in the Market District and tried to avoid them but Irvin saw him.
"HEY! ROMULUS!"
"Damn it."
Romulus cursed in a low voice.
"Hey guys! What's cookin'?"
"You are! We're gonna roast you, you idiot!"
Anthea angrily said as Romulus walks to them.
"So what's going on? Why the gathering?"
Feigning ignorance, he asked them.
"Well, it's our fault that Calradea is being besieged right now."
Rhys calmly said as if easing the pressure that his comrades were giving.
"It's clearly his fault! If he's not such a stupid ass!"
Anthea cannot get over with it. She wanted to punch Romulus so bad.
"Now we can't get out of the city and level up! Every goblin of these damn goblin horde is twice much stronger."
"""Yeah!"""
The other members agreed that it was Romulus' fault.
"We ought to kill you right now if not for the damn siege. The city needs every able fighter."
"Oh come on! This event is like a blessing! Double exp even if not night time, and when night time? A feast of exp. Don't you guys get excited?"
Putting positive spin on the misfortune that has befallen them, he tried to persuade them not to blame the misfortune.
And Rhys agreed with what Romulus said.
"He's right. It's not like we'll always experience an event like this. And for us beginners, this is and epic story to tell the world. Look guys, I for one wanted this. This, here, I wanted to rise as the Hero of Calradea. I just have to do impossible feats during this war. Feats that will awe the citizens of Calradea! And this is an oppurtunity!"
"Yep! Strike whilst the iron is hot!"
Romulus is adding fuel to the fire.
"Don't you wanna rise up and become a Hero? Does any of you want to have an ordinary beginning?! OR AN EPIC BEGINNING THAT WILL LEAVE A MARK HERE IN CALRADEA BEFORE YOU LEAVE?! DOES ANY ONE OF YOU, NOT WANT TO HAVE THEIR STATUE BE ADMIRED BY BEGINNERS AND OTHER ADVENTURERS AND THE CITIZENS ALIKE?! WELL?! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! TO THE WALLS!!! FOR CALRADEA! DEFEND OUR BEGINNING!!!"
""""""""""""""""RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHRRRR!"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
Even the other bystander users who heard the speech got pumped up and joined the charge.
"Wheeew. Maybe I should find a way to escape this place."
While all other users ran to the wall, the one who gave the speech opted to stay behind.
(Will a hero really emerge in the thick of the Battle of Calradea? Next time...)
