We found a loaf of bread and some blankets from the living room. Emily even found a small bottle of water, and I was really happy because I was thirsty. I held the blankets while she carried the food. We tiptoed back outside, and I felt better once we were out of the house again.
We went back to our tree, where we could hide. I wrapped the blanket around myself and snuggled my teddy, feeling a little bit safer.

“I miss my mummy,” I whispered, tears filling my eyes again.
Emily sat next to me and gave me a piece of bread. “I miss mine too,” she said softly. “But we’ll see them soon, I think. And until then, we’re brave together.”
We huddled close, listening to the rain and hoping the bad men wouldn’t come back. As I closed my eyes, I imagined we were superheroes, just like Emily said, hiding and waiting to save the day. Maybe, if we stayed brave, we’d find our mummies and go back home soon.
