They sat by the fire as Vannesa started explaining. "About 0.1% of the population is born with an ability. To activate that ability they must be exposed to overwhelming amounts of that element. For you that most likely happened by entering the fire that destroyed your hometown. My element is psy. The psy element is good at making barriers and balls of force. Since my dad had an element my parents suspected that I would have an element too. So when I was old enough they started exposing me to the safer elements like water and psy, and then found my ability. Questions?"
"Yes! How do I even control my powers?" Luke asked immediately.
It took about two days for Vannesa to teach Luke how to pull out the fire, make more fire, and most importantly, control the fire. It took him another two days to learn how to burn the fire energy to replace his need for food which also gave him a physical boost. At first he had wondered how she could instruct him on fire when she had different element, but then she explained that she had instructed other people and was good at teaching by now. Also fire and psy acted sort of similar. She said he needed combat experience, so she decided they needed to spar.
"But what if I burn you?" Luke asked.

"With your experience? Not likely," Vannesa responded. Just as Luke was about to open his mouth she said, "Go!"
Vannesa threw a ball of condensed psy element, while Luke started building a giant fireball. He had to sidestep to avoid the attack, but that was ok. So far, so good. But then Vannesa started going at super speed, presumably from the burning of her element. Desperately Luke threw the fireball down at the ground creating an expanding field of fire. Vannesa managed to dodge, and for a moment, it looked like Luke might have the upper hand, but as he threw a fireball, she lashed out with a psy whip, redirecting his fireball. She took the opportunity to move closer. In an attempt to stay in the game a little longer, Luke 'ignited' meaning fire went out around him in a sphere. That kept Vannesa at bay a little longer, but after it was over, she just ran over tossing a psy spear to the side of him - it could have pierced right through him.
"Pretty good for your first time. You looked a little desperate though, and you didn’t have many attacks against me. You did a decent job at not losing, but you did a terrible job at trying to actually win, if you know what I mean." Vannesa said.
Luke nodded. The only attacks he made were pretty much just means of defense. There were a couple fireballs, but they were often used for redirection. "Lets go again," Vannesa said. Luke groaned.
