Entry Four: More into the Races: The Impact of Royalty

FAIRIES

The ‘royal’ is the highest-class of fairy in every sense of the word. They both aid and tax the Magic system by taking in large amounts of magic and letting out even larger amounts. And generally, this isn't a conscious effort for them.1

Think of magic as a set amount of raw wool. The royalty would be the ones who made it into yarn and distributes it to everyone to knit into whatever spell they wish to use.

Once the Yarn is used it turns back to raw wool. (It doesn't really work that way but for the sake of an analogy)

If there were too many ‘Yarn producers’ then there just wouldn't be enough wool to be produced and there would be too much yarn to be used resulting in an unbalanced system.

Magic is a very strict system that needs all the pieces in place. If one of them is missing for too long, then the system collapses and the world essentially ends.

(usually about 50 yrs.)

The Royalty of the fairies usually inspires feelings of love and devotion from their people as a by-product of their ability to process magic.

The effect varies in intensity from person to person with one person only feeling positively toward the royal in their presence and another with higher magic perception experiencing feelings of Obsession and possessiveness.

GOBLINS

The highest class of Goblin is called Rumpelstiltskin and their Royals are called Monarch.

The Goblin also has a ‘royal’ like status in their court, but it manifests pretty differently than with the fairies.

While the fairy royalty encourages feelings of love and protectiveness which can manifest as loyalty and obsession or stalking, the Goblin royalty inspires purely undying loyalty and obedience. The emperor recognized by the magic will never be questioned and will always be obeyed.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

And while a fairy could possibly harm a royal if the effects took a more negative turn a Goblin would rather die than to do so. To the point where their own hearts would stop before they could lay a finger on them.

The Royal of the Goblins is always the strongest goblin in the court and usually has to exhibit this strength at least once a decade.

Unlike the Fairy Royalty where the title is passed down by blood right the title of Monarch can only be gained by beating the previous emperor in battle.

It usually ends up going to those with the blood of the Royals anyway as they would have had more training and just a stronger base than others. But the magic recognizes merit with the goblins.

The Child of the emperor is usually afforded a fraction of the emperor’s power but if they fail to become the next emperor then the backlash will be deadly.

They also love to bet so one doesn't necessarily have to beat the previous emperor in physical combat to take the next title.

Simply winning a bet is enough.

In the case that the emperor dies before a new emperor is declared the power is returned to the previous emperor within four generations.

If all four are dead however then the next emperor has to defeat every single goblin in the empire before they can become the emperor.

The Goblin royalty Is the only Goblin that can grant a second awakening * and can also enact Trades * on a larger scale than other Goblins on much more advantageous terms as well.

WITCHES

The witch’s version of the royal status is somewhat similar to the fairies in that they can somewhat process ‘wool’ but they would only get ‘thread’ rather than ‘yarn’ for the double effort.

The Witch royalty would have a larger magic capacity than the others though and would be able to inscribe an almost limitless number of Spells and items onto themselves. They would also be able to hold much larger scale *rituals than other witches.

The royalty of the witches also has a weak mind control side effect to it which inspires an almost irrational amount of trust within their followers. It is far from impossible to resist though.

The Royalty of the Witches is called the ‘leader’. Unlike the power of the fairies or goblins, the ‘royal’ power of the witches can be given any which way or can be stolen. As a result, the leader of the witches is usually elected into power to avoid situations such as civil wars.
