After two hours She arrived at the library.
She was one of the first to arrive, others chose to explore or stay behind with the group. But Kira couldn't wait, She had to shed this life of a peasant as fast as possible and start walking the path of a cultivator.
The prospect of this sheer infinite power was too tempting.
Kira stood in awe in front of the magnificent structure. It was the greatest building she had ever seen.
A Grand building five stories high, made from massive stone. It seemed like the entire building was made from one gigantic stone carved into this imposing structure.
The white stone shone radiantly in the evening sun. Disciples in white robes were walking in and out shooting glances at the new disciples not yet wearing the robes of the sect.
Kira felt their gazes, feeling uncomfortable in her rags, her dishevelled ebony hair not doing anything to appease her state of embarrassment.
She hurried through one of the big entrances. Not a sound could be heard even though at least a hundred disciples were on the first floor.
She was amazed by the sheer quantity of shelves.
As she approached the first shelf she was stopped by a disciple in a blue robe. Who, with a bored look, stretched out his hand. "Token!"
Kira rummaged inside her little bag and handed him her Token.
The blue-robed disciple took it. Held it for a second. He seemed to be reading something on the token but she couldn't see anything on it. Before she could start to overthink the matter he handed it back to her and said in an exhausted manner, like he repeated the same words the entire day.
"You are only allowed to take techniques from the first floor. Furthermore, you can choose a hand-to-hand combat, movement, weapon and body refining technique. Any more or different techniques will require contribution points. The sections are marked so you know where to find which technique."
With those words, he shifted his attention to another new disciple who came through the entrance.
Kira started with, in her opinion the most important one, the body tempering technique. She searched for the right section.
Browsing through the various techniques and reading a few introductions she noticed that some of these mention root affinity and different elements.
Panic started to form in her heart. She didn't know her affinity. Looking around helplessly she noticed an elderly man talking to new Disciples.
Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.
She approached the elderly man and waited until he was finished talking to the newbie in front of her.
"Excuse me, could you tell me how I find out what my root affinity is?" She asked rather bluntly.
The old man raised an eyebrow at her lack of respect and etiquette.
But he seemed to ignore it and answered her.
"Just hold this stone."
Kira frowned, 'A stone again what is it with these stones all the time.'
But she did as she was told and held the stone in her hand. Just like the first time she held such a stone it shone with light two times. This time the light had a different colour.
The first light shone a deep purple, the second a vibrant green.
Kira looked at the stone, then looked at the old man with a questioning look.
"Purple means Lightning and Green means Wind." The old man clarified.
"Quite bad manners for someone with a dual spiritual root. But I guess at fault is your poor background and not arrogance. With this combination, you have a bright and powerful future if you don't do anything stupid that would earn you an early grave. Like being rude to an esteemed elder of the Sect others would have you killed for being disrespectful." The Elder reprimanded.
Cold sweat started to build on her forehead. "Thanks, honourable Elder for helping me and for being lenient." She tried to bow. "But why did you not punish me if I was being disrespectful?"
"Never attribute to malice, what can be explained by ignorance." The elder smiled slightly.
Kira tried to bow again but did a poor job.
She turned around and returned to the section on body tempering techniques.
None of the techniques seemed to fit her. They all had different requirements, one needed three elements root, the other one. When she found dual root manuscripts they needed different elements. She had yet to find one for Wind and Lightning.
Hours passed and she became desperate. She was already considering asking the Elder again when she finally found one.
'Thunder Storm Tempering. Requirements: Dual Lightning/Wind Root ', she read.
'Finally found you, You are my ticket to greatness', she rejoiced.
After a couple more hours Kira had found fitting Hand to Hand, Movement and Weapon Techniques.
For Hand-to-Hand, she chooses the Windy Hands Technique.
For Movement, she chooses the Light Breeze Technique.
For Weapon, she chooses the Lightning Sword Technique.
She chose the Sword as her designated weapon because it was the only weapon that piqued her interest.
She left the Library, the Two Moons hung high already only beautifully adorned lanterns pointed the way to the quarter section. With the Map in hand, Kira began the search for her quarter. The Map brought her fast to the little house with the number 2854.
Kira entered the house and noticed someone sleeping in the bed to the right.
'That must be my roommate,' she concluded.
The house was sparsely furnished, with a bed, a table and stool, a meditating mat and a nightstand. One set for each of the two residents.
Kira was tired but her curiosity got the better of her. She took the introduction guide and started reading.
The guide wasn't that big so it took her about an hour to read everything twice and commit to memory.
After returning the guide to her bag, she closed her eyes. Before she fell asleep she couldn't help but imagine herself a Mighty Immortal. What surprised her was that her mind kept showing her the face of Mizu from earlier today. Mizu's face was the last thing she thought of before she fell asleep.
