Village

Jace was a completely normal 17 year old human peasant farmer living in a rural village on the outskirts of the Empire. Nothing of significance had ever happened to him in his life, until that fateful day. He lived every day happily farming the fields despite the crushing poverty of his occupation. But on that fateful day that would all change.

Jace came in from the fields early, as he had finished weeding the crops rather quickly. When he arrived at the village there was a great commotion. Parading down the main road, which was not much more than hardened dirt, was a convoy of around a hundred knights in shining steel. In their wake was an ornate carriage, made of a dark blue wood inlaid with intricate silver and gold patterns.

The convoy continued until the carriage was at the center of the village, at which point it slowed to a stop. Up close the carriage could now be seen to have dawned a red banner with a gold eagle, the banner of the empire’s royalty. Jace hurried to the front of the crowd of villagers, a crowd of about 20 people. Upon reaching the front of the scuffle, Jace was greeted with the face of the most beautiful person to ever exist. This person was of course the princess of the Empire. She had such beautiful features that they simply could not be described in writing.

Addressing the people of the village she spoke saying “I am the princess of the Empire!”

Cheers erupted from the crowd of 20 people. The Empire had never done anything for the people and they knew nothing of its royal family, yet they were ecstatic.

Stolen story; please report.

“Why are you here in this humble village?” Jace asked.

“An ancient prophecy, that you will never learn anything about, stated that a hero would arise from this village to save the world from the super evil demon lord of death and decay, whose real name must never be said. Oh and there will be no reward!” The princess replied.

“Ight bet, I’ll volunteer!” Jace declared.

The villagers erupted with cries of sorrow and joy, each coming to Jace and giving him a hug as a final farewell. His brother handed him a sword he had never seen before. “Take this family heirloom that is incredibly important to our family, To remind you of your family on your quest.”

Jace’s eyes couldn't help but begin to tear up. The cries of the crowd seemed to become silent. All he could perceive was his brother and himself. “I will never forget you, but I must leave now. Take good care of mother while I'm gone.”

“I will,” his brother began to cry and fell to his knees, “I’ll never be in the plot again for a long time now, so take care.” Hearing this Jace closed his eyes, cutting off the swelling tear, causing it to fall to the ground, where it seeped into the dry dirt, symbolizing the point at which Jace had cut off his ties to his family and made his resolve to see this quest through.

Jace turned away and boarded the carriage.

The convoy set off towards the capitol.
