Chapter ten

Amaia was standing on the balcony of her bedroom, in the tallest tower of the temple of the gods, looking over the Sea of Nef. The sky was dark, the moon peeking out from behind the clouds, the sounds of ocean waves crashing against the rocks. White tile made from the white sand pressed and heated from Nef beach covered the floors, the room is filled with a bed made from shined wood, and covered in warm furs. A table with assorted items like a hair brush, oils from flowers, other items Amaia figured she needed. Water trickled down a tiny waterfall that fell from nowhere into a bowl with floating flowers and green leaves, and a Throne that sat facing the balcony.

She was wearing the same armor she wore when she killed her brother, with a circular shield mounted on her back. The Shield was made of Damascus steel, around the edge of the shield was fur from a Fenrir. The shield was separated into 4 parts by thick leather. Each section had a rune on it. Victory, War, Strength, and Protection. In the middle of the shield was Aadi's gemmed heart. She wore a sword with a golden hilt, with the same four runes etched into the blade on her hip.

Her black hair was free, blowing in the wind. She was watching the first awakened on the lowly realm praying to her, soaking in their love.

The door behind her in the room burst open. She spun around to see Lao standing there. Lao was another God. Shorter the Amaia, with short fire red hair. The same leather armor as Amaia and Aadi, only her shoulder covering had a long Dragon's fang on it. Loa was equipped with a large battle axe on her waist, and Shield just as glorious as Amaia's. Her eyes were emerald green. She was known to have been a stern god. A god who would help you for the right sacrifice. Usually those of blood.

"Where is Aadi? He's not been seen." She was marching towards Amaia, her hand on the hilt of her axe.

"Dead?" Amaia asked Loa like it was old information. "In fact, he is here." She slid the shield from her back and pointed to the Gem in the middle and laughed.

Amaia knew Loa loved her brother. They were together for centuries. Amaia didn't care. She hated Loa. Loa stole her brother's attention away from her. In the end it didn't matter though, She needed his power to take the throne of the gods. She needed power that matched her own. Power from someone she shared her godly blood with.

Loa eyes flashed with absolute hatred for Amaia. Her heart ached, and exploded into anger. She let out a scream of pain, pulled her axe from her hip, and dashed towards Amaia.

Amaia was ready for her, grinning, holding her sword battle ready, and her shield out in front of her ready to brace Loa's attack.

Loa brought her axe crashing down onto Amaia's shield. Amaia countered by bringing her sword down trying to cut into Loa's face. Loa dodged, and jumped backwards.

"Give me his heart!" Loa screamed at Amaia.

"Never!" Amaia replied in a laughing tone. Amaia stepped forward attacking Loa, swinging her sword downwards aiming for her heart.

Loa put her shield out to stop it from slicing into her chest.

Loa reached down pulling a dagger from her hip, and buried it into Amaia's right side, deep in her ribs. She then pulled the dagger out stabbing Amaia two more times, leaving the dagger there.

Amaia screamed in pain, and shoved Loa off of her. She gasped and she pulled the dagger out. Dropping her shield, Amaia fell backwards, holding her ribs, letting out a scream of anger. Loa took her opportunity. She grabbed the shield, and ran out of the room.

Loa was running as hard as she could towards the throne room where she knew Ota would be. She knew Amaia wouldn't take long to heal enough that she could follow her. She needed to reach Ota before that happened.

As Loa turned the corner of the temple nearing the throne room, she came face to face with Desius. She was stopped mid step when his sword ran straight through her chest piercing the middle of her heart.

Desius, Amaia's lover, heard Amaia screaming demanding her slaves follow Loa and retrieve the shield. He had known Loa would head straight for Ota. He intercepted her, intending to retrieve the shield, and return it to Amaia for extra favor.

Loa gasped, dropping the shield and grabbing the sword before it pushed through her back. She couldn't stay standing and as she fell to the ground. Ota appeared behind her, grabbing her before she hit the tiled floor.

"Ota." She whispered.

Ota stood over her, his beard long and grey, and his piercing blue eyes staring into Loa's, she could see his anger behind them. His fur cloak, clasped by two gold disc's, half covered Loa.

"I found Aadi..." She whispered again, fading.

Desius was terrified. He knew Ota would destroy him for the murder of another god. He turned to run. Ota laid Loa down gently, pulled his mighty spear from his back and sent it flying straight through Desius's chest and into the floor in front of him. Desius stood, staring at his own heart pinned to the ground by the spear, and crumpled to the ground dead into a heap.

Ota pulled the sword from Loa's chest and placed his hand on her wound. She would not die. Not today.

Loa stood in front of us. Her back turned to us, holding her battle axe in her hand. A white Fenrir was sitting beside her, guarding, not taking its eyes off of us.

"Did you bring the heart gem?" was all she said, her voice echoing off the walls.

No one responded to her.

"Did you bring the heart gem?" She asked more sternly.

I stood up and stepped forward. "Yes, I have the gem." I confessed.

Loa turned around. Her chest looked as if it had been cracked, a dim glow was coming from it. Her skin was pale. She looked as if she was... dead.

"You are the one Aadi chose and his champion?" She questioned me. "Interesting" She started to walk towards me.

I bowed my head, and then met her eyes with my own.

They were an emerald green, they were beautiful, and full of fire. The only part of her that looked as though they were living.

"I am Kaida." I told her.

She stopped in front of me and scoffed. "Kaida. A little dragon, with little magic."

She turned and walked back to the tomb.

She was petting the Fenrir on the head as she spoke again. "I am Loa. Aadi was my partner. Is my partner."

She paused for a moment.

She turned and looked at us. "Ota prolonged my life after being murdered by another god. To make sure you are worthy of Aadi's gift." She judged,

"If you pass my test, you will receive that gift," She explained.

I knew we were coming here for a reason, just not this. What gift would Aadi have for me?

I started to sweat. I could barely use my own magics. I was not gifted enough to fight a god. I was deep in thought of my doubts when Loa interrupted me.

"You will fight me." She demanded

She wanted me to fight her? She was a god! I was sure I was about to get my arse handed to me.

The Fenrir that guarded her got up and jumped on to the tomb and howled, echoing off the walls of the tomb. When it finished, lanterns that lined the walls, ones I didn't notice before, burst into flames.

Loa reached behind her, and out of nothing she pulled out Amaia's shield, now hosting a shining emerald in the middle, positioning it in front of her, she slammed the side of her axe against it with a thunderous bang.

I was terrified.

"NO!" Shouted Bellator and grabbed my elbow, spinning me around to look at him. "No..." he said quieter.

"If you die fighting this god, then everything up to now has been a waste." He said.

"Aadi is with me, Bellator. I will die with courage if it is my time." I studied his face.

"Vala died setting in motion what needs to be done to stop Kai."

"Yes, I know, but if she sent me here to find help, then she must be it." I hoped he understood that I was not going to back down. I came this far looking for answers regarding my burning dragon mark. This must be a part of that story.

I turned around and pulled out my sword. Readying my shield in front of me, I whispered, "Ota, give me strength. Aadi, you better do something to help me out."

Loa gave a battle cry and started to run towards me, I followed her lead and ran forwards. When I was close enough I swung my sword over my shoulder, she blocked my blade with her shield, kicking me in the stomach sending me stumbling backwards. Loa was bringing her axe down towards my face, when I rolled to the side, getting to my feet as fast as I could. I stood holding my sword and shield. I went for her again, not giving her a chance to attack me. I slammed into her with my shield, thrusting my sword forward towards her shoulder, she knocked it away with her axe, turning on the spot bringing the axe down again all in one swooping motion. Her attacks are quick.

She knocked my sword from my hand with her shield, trying to get away from her. I rolled behind her, and turned to face her. Just as she turned to find me again, I felt power surge in my body. Strength. I grabbed her arm with my hand, and with the other sent a strong wind into her chest, she flew backwards into the tomb. The Fenrir growled and jumped down.

"NO!" She screamed at the beast, and it backed off.

She ran at me, I stepped to the side, kicking her in the back as she passed me, sending her to the ground. She turned onto her back, laughing as she jumped up and came at me, swinging her axe as hard as she could, I jumped backwards, her axe slamming into the mountain with a boom.

I dove for my sword, rolling on the ground past Loa, climbing to my feet as I grabbed the hilt, turned around and made my way to Loa's throat. Blocked. Damnit!

I made a series of swings and thrusts as fast, and hard as I could, backing her towards the tomb.

Loa jumped in the air and landed behind me. She grabbed my sword arm and brought her knee into my elbow, with a sickening crack, it broke. Screaming, using my useful arm, I grabbed the handle of her axe, holding as tight as I could.

I felt a cold gust of wind from behind me, Loa stopped. She froze. I didn't move, I was hoping whatever it was would get her to back off. The pain in my elbow was searing, and I needed to regain myself.

Loa stepped back, halting her attack.

Grabbing my broken arm I turned cautiously to see what was happening.

Aadi was standing there. Not fully solid, But he was there.

I backed off to the side, keeping my arm in front of my body, trying to keep both gods in my sights.

Loa didn't speak. She just looked at him. I could tell on her face, this is what she was waiting for.

Aadi stepped towards Loa and put his hand against her cheek. Closing her eyes she whispers, "Aadi, it has been long, my love"

"I know." He pulled her close to him and wrapped his arms around her.

Loa dropped her axe and held him tightly.

"Kaida is the one, Loa. She will fight, and die fighting Amaia if she has to. Her soul is one of the warriors." He told her.

Nodding, she stepped back and looked at me.

She held her hand out to me, "the gem." She asked.

I took it out from beneath my shirt where it stayed, unclasped it, and placed Aadi's heart in her hand.

She looked at it for a moment, pushed it against her lips. She looked over at Aadi and nodded again.

Without a word, she slammed the gem into my chest, pushing it into my flesh. The pain was unreal. I screamed. I screamed like my body was on fire.

Loa pushed the gem until it was against my heart. I felt an explosion of power.

"Kaida!" I heard both Ballator and Sigurd call out before everything went black.

Loa looked once more at Aadi and smiled, "We will be together soon, my love." The light from her cracked chest grew bigger, and brighter until the entire room was filled with it.
