Chapter nine.

Chapter nine.

A single torch was not giving off enough light to satisfy Bellator, and he cast a twin spell on Sigurd's torch. This mirrored the image of the first torch, Now with his own light, he led us further into the cave. He kept cursing under his breath with every dead end we met.

"This is a damned maze" He growled.

We have been travelling through many tunnels and paths, I was sure it had been hours since we found the entrance.

Bellator made directional arrows in the stone with his axe so we were lost, or that we weren't going where we had already been.

"Let's rest for a moment," I suggested.

"There is no use exhausting ourselves, and getting frustrated before we found the cavern, Vala said Perifrey travelled for an entire day, night before he stumbled into the cavern" I reminded him.

"We may not even find it." I said half defeated.

"Oh, we will find the tomb." Said Sigurd. "You can bet your next meal on that."

Willow was coiling around Sigurd, He had tied a rope around her neck so she would go running off and get lost forever in the cave. His exact words were, "Let me put this rope around you my little cariadon, Otherwise you will get eating by a grootslang, or worse get kidnapped by cave pixies and be gone forever."

Grootslang were very large, diamond eyed snakes. I hated snakes more than I hated Pixies of any type. Their dark colored scales made them hard to see in the dark too.

Just thinking about Sigurd talking about Willow being eaten by one again now, made me pull my remaining dagger out just to have it handy.

Flipping the dagger around in my hand, the light from the torches dancing off of it, I asked, "Sigurd, do you know what we are searching for in this cavern?"

I figured there was a scroll, or some kind of information we needed to get, and hide from kai. A book maybe. I wasn't sure.

"A surprise." Was all I got in response.

"That's a little vague." I said annoyed.

Disappointed he wouldn't give me any information, I sighed.

I slumped on to the wall and slid down into a sitting position. I was tired. Pulling out my water skin and taking a well needed drink, Bellator sat next to me,

drinking from his own water skin, I leaned over and squeezed it slightly making the water splash out of the mouthpiece, causing water to pour down his chin.

He looked at me surprised. "What was that for?"

Sigurd and I laughed, the sounds echoing in the tunnel.

We started back down the tunnel away from the current dead end. As we were walking, Willow had jumped up onto a few rocks and stuck her head inside a port just above us that we did not see previously coming down here. Sniffing the air for a moment and then turned and looked directly down at Sigurd.

Sigurd dropped his pack and spear, and climbed up the rock until he was face to face with her. "There's another passage here. Big enough for us to crawl with our gear, but its going to be tight."

He jumped down, retrieved his gear and started climbing back up.

I followed next, placing my sword on top of my shield shoving it into the hole first, following behind Sigurd, who was following Willow.

I could hear Bellator coming up behind me, the scraping sound of his own shield at my feet.

We came out a few minutes later into a small room. There were two stone doors, Both had runes on them.

The one to our right , was the rune Dolorem, meaning sadness and grief. To the left, the rune Interitus, meaning death and destruction

"Choices, choices." Sigurd said, rubbing his hands together.

"So, one leads to our deaths, and the other will give us sadness?..." I was talking out loud.

"Bellator?" I was hoping he had a suggestion.

Shrugging he said, "I was hoping our Seer friend here would have an answer"

Standing up, I pulled Aadi's gem from beneath my shirt. Rubbing it between my fingers I closed my eyes. Whispering to myself, "Aadi, if this is where we need to be, give me some guidance."

Dropping the gem against my collarbone, I reached out and touched dolorem. "I would rather have sadness and grief in my life than be destroyed or killed." I said.

The outline of the door glowed blue and moved backwards and crumbled.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

There was nothing but blackness.

Willow started to bark and whine, pulling away from Sigurd, trying to back towards the hole we had crawled through. Yelping and pulling she managed to free herself from her rope and jumped into the hole. Sigurd tried to go after her, "Willow, come back, you will be lost!" He stuck his head in the passage and sadly called out, "Willow!"

I was looking into the dark, not daring to turn away. I knew something was there myself, I could feel it in my gut. Bellator must have sensed something wrong as well, stepping in front of me pulling out his sword and positioning his shield for an attack, I pulled my own sword out. I had just been reaching for my shield when a high pitched screaming came from the darkness.

A septran emerged from the black.

The septran was tall, with green scaly skin, with spiked teeth that hung from its mouth. There were shredded insect styled wings on its back. A long thick lizard tail, Arms that reached down to the floor, a short torso, and thin long legs. Its face was elongated, with large lizard eyes, and it was grinning, its teeth dripping with its venom.

My entire body froze, I felt like I was being encased in ice. The walls were changing, the rocks melting down themselves. My mind was rushing with images. I could feel myself fill with grief. I felt like everyone I ever loved was dead. I just wanted to scream, to cry, to get away. I was holding my head silently begging for it to stop. What was happening?

I could hear Sigurd yelling, "Stand up, Kaida! Stand up and open your eyes!"

I didn't realize I dropped my gear and was on my knees.

I felt someone tugging at my arm, lifting me up.

Bellator was pulling me up, "Get up!" He was yelling. "Get up, now!"

Forcing my eyes open, everything changed.

It was as though someone else was in control of my body. I grabbed my sword and shot to my feet. Raising my hand instinctively pointing it towards the septran. A warm, bright light burst from my palm hitting the septran in the face. The light filled the room, and my soul. Everything was gone.

The septran screamed, and swung one of its long scaly arms at me, trying to knock me down. I ducked, and rolled to the side.

Bellator joined me in the fight. He sent a fire ball directly into the side of the septran's head, and then bashed it against the ribs with his shield, sending it into the wall.

I raised my sword and went to slash at its neck, the septran brought its thick tail around and knocked Bellator and I down.

Sigurd, who was standing near the passage, grabbed his spear and sent it flying towards the beast, landing with a loud, in the septran's left arm.

It let out a pained cry and pulled it out, throwing it to the ground.

Bellator got to his feet and pulled out his axe and chopped into the septran's chest. The septran pushed Bellator backwards with its remaining good arm sending him backwards.

I dashed towards the two, raised my sword ready to strike. My sword started to glow with the same warm light that had come from my hand. I didn't hesitate, pushing my sword into the side of the septran's head. It went directly through, clanging into the rock on the other side. The light from my sword exploded through the monster's face through its eyes, nose, and fanged mouth, then burst, sending parts of its head in all directions.

Breathing heavily, I stepped back covered in black blood and other bits of flesh from the creature, watching it fall to the floor, dead and headless.

Sigurd let out a whoop of victory. "GLORY! You are true warriors. Both of you. GLORY!"

Bellator grabbed my arm looking at me intensely.

I nodded at him, indicating I was unharmed.

He released my arm, grasped the hilt of my sword, and pulled it out from the rocked wall.

"What spell was that?" He asked as he passed me my sword.

"I don't know. I don't think I cast it alone." I admitted.

"Well, that was amazing." He smiled, grasped my forearm, and shook once.

Nodding, I let go of his wrist and replaced my sword on my hip.

Sigurd didn't hesitate, after he collected his spear from the floor, he walked straight over to the other door, and gave it a push.

"What are you doing?" I yelled out as the door turned blue and moved backwards, crumbling once again.

This time, the door gave away to reveal a pathway. Well, thank the gods for that.

We entered the tunnel, not too sure what to expect. Bellator had his shield and weapon ready, leading the way.

We came out shortly into another room. It was huge. There was nothing inside, except in the middle stood a tomb. In front of that tomb sat a white Fenrir, guarding a God who was standing next to it, her back to us.

My mouth fell open in shock. I kneeled.
