8. Horns glazed in gravy.

8. Horns glazed in gravy.

I opened my eyes, to instantly have them burned by the noon sun. I turned over onto my stomach. Something on my head caught on the rocks I laid on and my forehead wasn't touching the ground.

I begrudgingly sat up. I looked at the hole in the rock and tilted my head. I looked down, the stones were flat. I tentatively reached my hands up to my forehead. There were two, small, round nubs - under my skin - at the top of it. I massaged them a little and furrowed my brows.

"I have horns," I said, still frowning in thought. "Status."

Name: Mads Race: Lesser Devil/High-human Strength: 3(20) Talents Endurance: 5(20) Lesser Devil You've grown your horns, your Soul and Well turn fiery. Mind: 13(20) Titles Soul: 20 Escapist Through luck or skill, you've escaped certain death in a dungeon. Well: 17(20)   Shell: 16(20)

I pulled from my Well and found a small flame flowing before my face. I pushed into it and I had a ball of fickle fire. I tried to condense it and make it stronger instead of larger, but no can do.

"I suppose, I can cook food now." I thought out loud. I released most of the mana and waved the tiny flame around. I chuckled. "Fear me, mortals!! I wield the flames of Inferno!!"

I wondered if the bracelet would even bring me back from there. If the bull hit me, I'd be all over that room. To end my life as an explosive piece of modern art, might not have been the worst. Better at least, than falling down some stairs.

I shrugged and got up. The next exciting experience wouldn't come to me on its own. I looked around, double and triple checked. No exciting things were coming my way.. at least as far as I could see.

I pulled my treasure cube out of the backbag. It was black and shiny and void of any details. Almost too large for me to hold in one hand. I shook the thing and poked it all over. I tried biting into it and just hurt my teeth a little.

"Provide status, identify, reveal your secrets." Nothing happened. I squinted and looked at the grass. "Provide status."

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

Grass

"Alright, keep your secrets." With those words, I put the cube away.

I wasn't sure which direction I was supposed to go, so I jumped up a couple of times. The mountain was to my left, I nodded my head and dropped. I cushioned myself twice in the air and landed with no grace at all.

I ignored the path and just walked towards the fence, vaulting over it. I felt my mana strain a little, so I let my backbag drag on the ground and did away with exercises.

When the night came, without anything eventful happening throughout the day, I was kind of glad. I was sore all over.

I found a tree with a somewhat flat space between its branches and nestled in.

Hungry for sustenance and to play with my new power, I baked some mushrooms for supper. It took much longer than I'd like, but the weak flame was still better than no flame at all.

In the morning, I felt just fresh. I opened my eyes and there was a normal-sized squirrel. It was looking at me from a branch over. I focused and formed a mana dense needle above its head. The animal looked up and I shot it down. I jumped from the tree and walked up to the corpse.

"How do you skin an animal?" I wondered out loud while tilting my head. I squatted next to my breakfast.

A messy while later, I walked on. A small gutted carcass floating next to me, inside a bowl of low flames. I had a second, pure mana bowl underneath it, collecting fat and enriching berries and mushrooms with it.

All sorts of birds sang their songs and I felt obliged to join. I sang of eternal fire cooking tasty morsels.

After two rotations of the song, I noticed a small, brown and orange cat, with tall puffy ears, stalk me. I threw a careless and weak manaball towards it, making the cutie jump, hiss and run away.

I wasn't gonna eat a cat... Unless it was big and trying to eat me first. I also wouldn't share my food with it.

My meal was finally ready after a little over twenty songs. It was kinda dry and lacked salt, but it was the first meal I hunted myself. Forever, I would claim it tasted like ambrosia.

After the meal, I got back to trying to write with a mana hand thing. I also kept a small flame burning above my nubs.

When in the evening, I stumbled onto a stream, I had a third nub in the middle of my forehead and a bunch of trees had tiny singe marks.

I looked the stream up and down and followed it up until I reached a point where it flowed faster. I refilled my water skins, before throwing off my clothes and jumping in the water. The water was as cold as yetis ass, but even children sweat. Not to mention all the dust I collected.

Further down the stream, I noticed a deer with rainbow horns come to drink some. It came and left, without noticing or giving a fuck about me.

After ten teeth chattering songs, I got out and warmed myself up. Getting the clothes clean was easier. I simply put them in the bag, withdrew them and then withdrew the dirt on a mana bowl. Disperse the bowl and voila, the dirt was never there.

I still put on something fresh. Black tights, tiny black boots, black dress and a red coat with a hood. I was ready to eat some wolf meat.

I did not run into any wolves, even though I sang songs from a Little Red Riding Hood play the entire day. I even tried to play two on a violin, when I took a supper break to eat some scrambled eggs with a baked small blue bird.

That night, I finally saw the moon. It was bigger than the one above Earth. It was also green and blue. I fell asleep, imagining a little house on the moon.
