Chapter 8 - The Jelly Man

Chapter 8 - The Jelly Man

Miguel had to widen his eyes, to just be sure that what he was watching was even real. He had to find one person, but he could see many silhouettes standing far from him. He couldn't help but get excited. He started walking faster, but only after a few paces he found himself out of breath. So he didn't have any other choice than to continue at a normal pace.

His condition was still bad, but the people in front of him gave him hope. It was only when he drew closer to them that he saw them clearly. Miguel could clearly feel the goosebumps rising. Because what he saw were not normal humans. You couldn't even call them humans. They all looked different, almost bizarre in their presence. Some of them had very long bodies while some of them had shorter bodies, almost too short to even reach his knees. Some of them looked like they were made of stone, while some looked like crocodiles. There was even a smaller one that looked like jelly from far away.

But it wasn't just that which scared him, it wasn't just because of their uniqueness. It was because as Miguel saw it, all of them were looking in some direction. They looked almost like statues, if you removed the clothes that they were wearing. Together they seemed to be waiting for something to come from that direction.

Watching the sight was enough to make MIguel stiffen in shock. He just stood there, between his slightly trembling legs, even if the person had the capacity to accept things. They would definitely feel scared at one point due to the bizarreness of this situation. How they just stood there, all in a peaceful silence. The next thing he had to decide was whether to approach them or not. Even if he had been given the mission, he couldn't just follow the screen to death, could he?

Even as he said that, Miguel prayed to the god for strength and started walking. This time slower than before, but he was making sure not to awaken those standing creatures due to his presence as he came nearer to them. Coming close, he saw that there were two marshals that were lit on the stand, each glowing blue in colour. The bodies of those creatures had hidden the marshals from his sight.

The marshals looked ancient, burning under a fierce light, illuminating a section of what definitely looked like some kind of checkpoint in front of it.

It was a freaking road, as Miguel saw it, old, cracked, not like the one he had seen in the cities, but it was definitely a road. He was sure of it. Because it was also the only place devoid of any kind of smaller plants, stones or roughness of any kind.

Miguel crept closer to the smallest of them. The one that looked like jelly. For some time he just stood at the back of it deciding to go further or not, and then he finally made his decision as he stood in front of the jelly.

The jelly was clearly wearing some kind of clothes, but they didn't look like the ones made from cotton or some other known materials. The clothes definitely looked as if made from its own body. Its body reached Miguel's knees. The body was bluish green in color, it was definitely wearing some kind of cloak. Its black beady eyes were not looking at Miguel even as he stood in front of it.

"Um Hello," Miguel's voice came in a rasp. He cleared his throat and asked again.

"Hello," This time too the creature didn't seem to hear him as it continued to look where it had been looking.

Miguel couldn't help but feel pointless conversing with the creature. Even if it was small and looked cute, it didn't mean that it would be nice and wouldn't attack him.

"Are you real," It was such a stupid question to ask. Still rather than facing disappointment he would rather ask the creature.

Thinking that it wasn't going to work, Miguel tried to do different things. Such as, coming in line with the creature's vision, he felt that it was definitely a bad idea, considering that it was impolite in his world to do that. He tried waving to the creature, and even poked him once around his cloak. But even then the creature didn't move to meet him or even look at him.

Frustrated, he sat on the ground. The other creatures, too, didn't seem to be affected by his presence at all. There were all standing, with their own unique pair of clothing looking at the far distance.

The Jelly man moved his eyes to take a quick glance at the strange creature that was trying to disturb him, and continued looking at nothing.

Had he hallucinated, just now? Miguel was looking at the Jelly very intently, as if the creature would look at him the very next moment. He was watching everything with disinterest when he had felt someone gaze at him, and the jelly man being the closest, Miguel had quickly turned to look at it. He felt like he had seen a slight tremble of its eyes, but there was no proof of that.

"I should look for the others," Miguel didn't know whether he was telling himself, or was saying to the creature near him but he stood up and started roaming around looking at the others or anything that might clue him what was happening there right now.

The other creatures were not one bit less peculiar than the jelly man. Miguel had seen an Alligator who stood on its two legs, he even seemed to have proper functionable hands. There was even a tree that looked like a person, for an instant Miguel had mistaken him for another human being seeing the mask on its face. But watching carefully he came to realize that it wasn't a mask but the real face of the creature. A tree man.

There were others too, Miguel could feel danger even coming near them. One of them was a soldier donning armor, it had a tail too. There was another creature, it was constantly burning, like a log lit on fire, Miguel could feel heat from a very far distance. He saw that no one was standing close to the creature. They were all very far, to avoid the heat from the burning creature.

There was even a ram with long horns, they looked very sharp, its body was covered in a dense amount of fur, but he could see the muscles on its body even though it was covered by the furs. Miguel decided not to approach the creature at all. It was the only one that was resting on the ground, but it too was looking at something far away.

'They must be alive if they are consciously avoiding the burning creature' Miguel thought. He returned to the jelly man, at least the creature looked cuter than the other lot.

"Little guy, you know I didn't ask for any of it. In fact I don't even know how the heck I am even here." Miguel decided to call the jelly man, little guy.

"I was comfortably sleeping on my bed, why did I have to get curious and touch the mirror," Miguel said between tears. It was the tears of frustration he had collected here, these things didn't even want to talk to him at all. What else could he do other than telling his story.

"I don't even know why I am telling you this. You seem to be the only kindred spirit here. Much better than those terrifying guys." Miguel had made the little guy his kindred spirit due to its cuteness. It was nothing else.

"Gu"

That was when Miguel heard it. For a moment he had to distinguish if what he had heard between his tears was real or not. And even though his tears were not that real, just some frustration to let go. He was having a real doubt.

"Gu" Miguel heard it again. This time he turned behind to look at the little guy. It was looking at him, its beady eyes almost looked sad at the moment. It was as if the creature was pitying him at the moment.

"You can talk?" Miguel said loud enough for every one of the creatures present to hear it. But they didn't seem to notice him at all, but the little guy looked more terrified than the rest about that.

"Gu gu….gu gu gu" It said in a very low voice. Bubbles came out of the creature that made that sound. But Miguel couldn't understand the little creature.

"I can't understand you," Miguel shook his head in frustration. This has been a damn experience for him. Firstly they presented themselves as they couldn't see him at all. And now that he was hearing the little guy speaking to him. He couldn't understand one word of it. But it almost looked like the little guy was frantically trying to convey something to him.
