Part II: The flying city

While waiting, Sely starts looking around.

But in a cemetery, apart from the rough stone gravestones and the plateau grass in the mounds, there is nothing.

So, using the telescope, the girl begins to scan the sky. She is at a vantage point too low to observe Vanoge, the forest, or the chimneys in the distance.

But she can observe the sky.

Cloudy.

Orange for sunset.

AND…

What is that!?

An enormous dark spot pierces a cloud.

It is very distant but becomes increasingly clear in Sely's telescope.

A huge tower, with gigantic mushrooms supporting it. They emerge from it as if it were a tree trunk.

The largest, however, dominates the top, like a hat.

The city approaches very slowly, much, much larger than Vanoge. Around it, black dots, probably birds, create restless flocks.

It's here! It's already here!

Sely's heart is pounding, her skin is warm and her antennae are upright.

Calm down, Sely calm down.

Try to breathe slowly, trying not to panic.

The city is very slow. There's still time.

If she now sees it with the telescope, for the inhabitants it is likely that it is little more than a dot.

From beyond the forest, in Ganivre, they shouldn't see it.

They shouldn't.
