Control Station #369

Extract from add-on section, page 3 of ‘2072 United Nation Report’ published and distributed by the United Nation:

“…WHO Medical Control Stations are underground bunkers original built as nuclear shelters…the bunkers are equipped with [deleted] and [deleted] that will allow the class F doctors to resupply. Only class A and class F medical officials are allowed to bring in unregister personals or patients. Guidelines on visitors can be found in…”

Eleanor tightened the large bolt on her chemical sprayer on her arm with a wrench, “How far are we from your home?”

“Let me ask Jeff,” said Riley.

“Who is Jeff?”

“The AFV that you are sitting on,” Riley laughed, “each of these AFV has its unique name, Jeff had been with me for over four years. However, I don’t normally its name as Jeff can automatically detect my questions.”

“Really?” Eleanor said, then she increased her output volume on her suit, “How far are we away from the Control Station?”

“We are currently 195 kilometres away from WHO Medical Control Station number 369,” Jeff replied robotically.

“Thank you.”

“You are welcome,” Jeff replied.

“Man, your AFV is very cool,” Eleanor comment and looked around the compact room filled with equipment, “what kind of stuff do you have in here?”

Riley pressed on a digital display that indicates all the items in the AFV, “Well, I got a lot of disinfectant equipment, surgery equipment, basic medication and some weapons.”

“What kind of weapons?” Eleanor continued her research.

Before Riley could answer, Jeff somehow detected the question and cut in their conversation, “weapons onboard: Type 90 Laser/Rakjag2 ATGM/12.5mm KwK HMG/Handgun ammo x1000.”

“Thank you, Jeff,” said Eleanor, “but doctor Riley, what are those heavy weapons used for? I though a pistol is enough for you.”

Riley, who was still paying attention to the equipment list in its hand replied, “uh…the laser is for cutting through broken metal doors on Isolation Camps and the rest are for…”

“for what?” Eleanor asked eagerly.

“Wait what’s your question again?” Riley finally wandered back to reality.

Unauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Report any sightings.

“Nope, I’m not asking the same question again.”

“Come’ on girl,” Riley put down the equipment list, “don’t be so…”

Beep!

On the digital map, a large red dot appeared beside the AFV, travelling towards the opposite direction of the AFV.

“Unregistered vehicle discovered by satellite, request to engage,” said Jeff.

Eleanor tried to stand up, but her helmet easily hit the roof, “Ouch! What’s happening.”

“Some annoying bastards,” Riley muttered and shifted its focus to the road. The AFV did a 90-degree turn at high speed, which caused Eleanor’s heavy body to be slammed against the armoured wall.

“Can we catch up to them?” the Finale Doctor asked.

“Yes sir,” replied Jeff, “their vehicle is an electrical armoured truck built-in 2020, it is not good in the snow compared to me.”

As the AFV accelerated, Riley dragged a thick metal plate down on the windscreen and trusted the driving to Jeff. Then, while ignoring the presence of Eleanor, Riley moved to the middle of the vehicle and deployed the laser turret.

“Approaching the target,” said Jeff, “estimation of approach time: one minute and thirty seconds.”

“What’s happening?!” Eleanor cried while Riley started to unload its pistols with anti-armour rounds. Riley didn’t have the time to reply to the question, instead, it dragged out a blast-proof vast from the underneath the seat and attached firmly to its chest.

“Target in sight, request to engage,” on the digital display, a dark metallic vehicle, half the size of Jeff, was rushing towards the horizon. It had a trapezium like a shape attached to radio and radar equipment.

Riley holds down the trigger and fired a burst of laser ray at the opponent. However, the green beam was simply reflected off the surface of the truck’s smooth, dark surface. At the same time, the roof of the truck opened and a person stood out while holding a large grenade launcher fitted with a drum magazine.

“Shit,” Riley quickly undeployed the turret and the next second a heavy blast could be heard hitting the front of the vehicle, “zig-zag, don’t let him hit your tracks!”

The AFV reduced its speed, dodging the incoming high explosive grenades.

“Fuck you,” the man firing the grenade launcher shouted, “fuck you damn piece of metal who wants to take our freedom.”

Riley quickly detached the laser from the turret and peaked out of the turret itself. When the man was about to withdraw into his vehicle to reload, Riley landed an anti-armour bullet onto his head, removing his skull from his jaws. Riley also used this opportunity to fire a few rounds into the grenade launcher, causing it to break. Then Riley returned into the cabin to reload.

“Eleanor,” Riley said quickly while reloading, “do you see the wooden box next to you?”

“Yes?”

“Break it and give me the thing inside it!”

Eleanor found a long rectangular box next to her and she grabbed it with her robotic hand which caused it to shatter, “oops.” A long tube with a thermal sight dropped out.

“Thanks,” Riley picked up the weapon and peaked out of the turret again. Luckily, the people in the target vehicle couldn’t find someone to replace the dead gunner, so Riley had all the time in the world to lock on…

“Damn it!” no matter how long the Finale Doctor pulled the trigger, the target lock couldn’t be activated, “They have a defensive coating. Well, iron sight it is.”

Riley switched off the digital scope on the weapon and aimed it ahead of the target.

BOOM! Whoosh!

A large, fin-stabilized shell blasted out of the recoilless cannon. It landed right onto the back wheel of the truck and created a huge explosion. The blast wave lifted the entire truck into the air, causing it to do an entire flip and crashed onto its roof.

Jeff the AFV stopped and Riley withdrew its recoilless cannon. Eleanor desperately wanted an answer from Riley, “What’s happening? Who are those people?”

“Outlaws,” Riley calmly drew out its pistols.

“What kind of outlaws?”

“You’ll see,” Riley opened the cabin’s exit and stepped out.

A series of coughs sounded from the destroyed truck. A man, who was wearing a helmet crawled out from burning rack.

BAM!

Before Eleanor could even tell his facial features, the man’s face was replaced by a gigantic hole.

“That’s not the right shell!” Eleanor cried, “you are supposed…”

“Not for these guys,” said Riley coldly while loading an expanding bullet into its gun.

Next, a woman carrying a bundle of cloth appeared from the rack, the fire had already spread across her clothing, and she rolled in the snow in pain.

BAM!

She was no more.

“Is that a…” Eleanor just realized the bundle of cloth in the woman’s warm corpse.

BAM!

The sound of the shots quickly disappeared into the air. The snow was covered in blood and bits of brain matter. Eleanor dropped to her knees, but Riley pulled her up instantly, “You might sink into the mud if you are not careful.”

“Why…” Eleanor’s lips trembled in her helmet, “That’s a…”

“That’s a bunch of outlaws who escaped their quarantine,” said Riley, “the only way to prevent them from spreading the fucking virus is to have them dead.”
