The weak voice was shaking, shaking with laughter. He finally found a successor. All these years…
"I-I thank thee… Now, I can finally see that my work wasn't futile. Thou have given me a new drive and I will always remember thee. Myriad, if you ever need me, ask right away. I shall be waiting for you. Here, I present thee this item that will serve as a teleportation to this camp."
Enfrid's Camp Teleporter
Durability: 80/80
When used, will teleport you to Enfrid's Camp.
Requirements: None
"Thanks."
"Hehe, I will now be sending thou to another location… Thou aren't supposed to be here By the way, the levels in here are supposed to be for adventurers that are level 300. Thou art very lucky to not have faced any enemies while coming this way."
That was the final remark that he made, seemingly thinking that he would be surprised before teleporting him somewhere as his surroundings turned blue.
"I understand." And so this was his expression. Expressionless, not even a sign of shock.
He also acknowledged the fact that he spoke in a weird way, mixing a new and old language at the same time.
And he finally teleported there.
He tried observing the place in which he was in and he saw a huge shopping road, there were adventurers requesting for a party, merchants selling items, guards patrolling around.
Everything you would see in a ordinary country.
First, he decided to talk to a character for him to tell him where he was.
"Hello, may you tell me where we are?"
The player skeptical at first, since when you come to a country you usually know the name but regardless he told him.
"You're in the Kingdom of Onz."
"Thanks."
And thus ended the conversation with the generic player. He decided to walk in the north east side. He wanted to try something else then training. He also searched his inventory and found that he had his starting set of nutrition and that he still had some bandages. The four weeks effect probably started just now.
Instead of the bustling streets where everyone was loud, he found out that there was a small shack in the corner. He tried to open the door but it wouldn't even budge. He then thought of an idea.
Myriad searched for the library, went inside it, got the card and asked something peculiar to the old clerk that held a cane.
"Can I get a book that would teach me Magical Perception?"
"Now why would you need that young one?"
"Can I not say?"
"Could one not say something entertaining to this old man who is extremely bored?"
He would probably never give up, so he just went and told him what he thought about. Also, it's not like it was a secret anyway.
"There is this shack that I found recently, the door is too sturdy and I thought that it was maybe due to magical interference, and so maybe if I located the problem, I could arrange it."
"Ooh, that old shack? It's still there. Hah. It's been there before I was even born. I remember the old times where me and my friends gave ourselves a challenge and if one succeeded in opening that door, he would be hailed as a hero. What imagination we had."
The old man continued his rant about when he was younger, he was mostly talking about how he wanted to be a hero and how he and his friends were almost always playing together.
"You know… I always wanted to know what was inside that shack. What say you? Could you open that shack for me and tell me what is inside?"
Learn what is inside the shack
The library's clerk demanded you to find out what is inside the shack.
Difficulty Level: Unknown
Quest requirements
Friendship with the library's clerk.
Quest rewards
Possibility of a reward in the shack
Increase in relationship with the old clerk
"I accept."
"Thanks! Here's the book you were searching for. But I don't think you can learn it…"
"Why?"
"Well, you need to gain Magic Mastery to be able to learn that spell and to do so, you need to have at the very least 200 intelligence or become a magician."
He remembered that his class absorbed other classes and so he determined that he should absorb the magician class.
"Where can I become a magician?"
"Just next of here, the magicians are always in need of books so they usually come here."
While he went outside, he discerned the fact that the Magician's Building was immense. It looked like a museum with white pillars that resembled like those in the palaces. The Magicians must be important in this city but there wasn't even a guard in front of the entrance, it looked like they were reassured of their strengths.
Inside of the structure, the inside was as magnificent as the outside, with a red carpet in a colossal hallway, the lamps were adorned with golden markings. Elegant magicians were walking inside. There were numerous doors but there was one in which that was written in a hue of blue.
«Those who desire to become a magician, come here.»
He went inside and found that there were two other characters that went in but went out quickly enough with disappointed looks in their visages. There was a old man that had a bald head, a green robe with no sleeves, he had on his hands many bracelets and rings, he had glasses and had a white beard. He looked strict and he had eyes that bore great wisdom.
Just before he reached him a charismatic young man who bore brown hair that reached his shoulders and who was wearing a blue chiton told him something rather unusual.
"Hah, it's just isn't those guys luck. Hmm? I haven't seen you here.. Are you one of those guys that wants to become a magician?"
Myriad nodded to him.
"I see, that there is the Headmaster. Every four weeks we change people that give the class of Magician. And those four weeks had to go to him. Anyway, good luck persuading him to give you the class."
With a wink he just went off.
Ahem, anyway… Myriad went to the grumpy old man.
"What, are you one of those lazy fools?"
"No, I demand the requirements of being a magician."
The old man grumbled.
"IT'S SO DAMN SIMPLE. JUST EARN A DAMNED 40 INTELLIGENCE IN 4 WEEKS. WHY CAN'T SOMEONE DO THAT SIMPLE THING CALLED READING."
It seems that he had to read once again.
Earn 40 INT
The Headmaster asked you to earn 40 intelligence by any means except levelling.
Difficulty Level: F
Quest requirements
None
Quest rewards
Able to receive the class, Magician.
If denied you will most likely have more difficulty in receiving this quest again.
"I accept."
The old man made sure to grumble before giving him a sort of device that was used to calculate the number of stat he gained during a certain period of time.
He immediately went to the neighbour library, the clerk was obviously curious of what happened.
In short… Myriad simply gave a summary of what happened.
"Huh, so it's the old Headmaster, we used to have so much fun before when we were younger… Oops, anyway I recommend you those books. They don't give any skills, but.. Heh, they're real encyclopedias."
Before, it only took 3 hours for him to read a book, but actually it should had took him only about 2 hour to read such a book. So if we calculate well, with 50% of his stat reduced it should take him about 3 hours to earn 1 stat.
He kept reading, reading and reading. There wasn't any special trick, There was only repetition, something that didn't really matter for him. He was used to it and even if he wasn't. He would still not wear an expression and would continue reading.
After about one day of reading, he earned 6 stat points in intelligence and 4 points in wisdom.
Inside the chambers that registered people to take the class, we could see the Headmaster reading a sort of device.
Even if the Headmaster was mad. He would never forget his duties. This was one of the reason why he could earn this spot. He looked at a sort of window that showed Myriad's and many other characters progress.
"Interesting."
From all the characters he gazed, one player was the most entertaining. Obviously, it was Myriad.
If we saw the screen of the intelligence stats, there were usually 1, 2 or even rarely 3 but Myriad was the only one who had a 6.
'Pretty good, but still not better then me.' He chuckled after discerning this fact, rarely did he laugh, sadly, no one was there to see him laugh that day.
The next day… He repeated the same thing he did yesterday, this time. He earned 4 in intelligence 6 in wisdom.
The other one, 5 INT and 5 WIS.
Afterwards, 4 in INT and 6 WIS.
The next one though, something different happened.
Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit.
"It's the first time I have seen such a hardworking adventurer, there's this contest that happens in two days, I would really appreciate it if you joined it and made me proud."
The old clerk was truly amazed but what did he mean by making him proud?
Win the contest
The old clerk asked you to join in the tournament that happens every year between two cities.
Difficulty Level: F
Quest requirements
Get sponsored by the library in which the clerk works in, Recor.
Quest rewards
10 000 gold
Huge increase in relationship with the clerk
A special spell earned by the tournament
If denied, decrease in relationship with the clerk.
"I accept."
"Ooh I know you'll win! I know you will!"
The two days before the tournament, he earned 11 INT and 9 WIS.
Presently, he was on the middle of the shopping market. There was quite an amount of spectators but the most important thing was the ones that were participating the contest, there were mostly high levelled magicians, there was 1 or 2 shamans and there was even a priest.
There were a lot of libraries in this city.
Then it started, the rules were simple. They were both given a book that they had to read for a limit of 5 hours. When one says stops, they both has to stop what they're doing or else they're disqualified. Then they are both given a test of the book. It may seem unreasonable, but every book came from all the libraries, in other words, they're all books that the libraries owned. So if you were lucky and already read that book, you had a huge advantage.
There were two matches per day.
And then came the opponent, it was a mage. The book that they were given was called, The Bird and The Zeal. Luckily, Myriad already read the book and thanks to his photographic memory he remembered everything. That was a huge cheat code for this tournament.
Realizing this he said.
"Stop."
The wizard was flabbergasted but he didn't have enough time to be when they were given the test.
There were easy question, but the more you answered the more it was difficult. There was even a question that needed him to tell him what did the man said to the merchant the fifth, write this in order.
'No! I will not give my bird's side, breast, back, rump, tail, flank, tarsus, bill and lores!'
But well, it didn't really matter for him.
It ended with a overwhelmingly 100 to 8.
In the end he earned a +10 in INT and WIS, I guess this was one of the reasons the mana related classes were desperate in entering.
After 5 hours or so, the other participants finished, it was easy to spot the one who ones and the one who lost with their faces. Happiness and Sadness. Emotions that Myriad never felt.
The other one was better, but he still lost after 1 hour and 50 minutes in.
The second day,100 to 58
100 to 77
The third day, 100 to 68
And then, 100 to 100.
He received a increase in 5 INT and WIS, it still increases even when it's a draw huh.
"Ladies and gentleman, this is quite something, the two unbeatable champions has finally met and look what happens, a draw!"
There were barely any people left. I mean, who would watch a reading match?
It was the final round and the one that he was against was a girl, she had large innocent blue eyes and brown short hair, she was slim and had wore blue white clothes. She was most likely a ice mage.
The next day, Myriad already finished reading the book after 1 hour and 20 minutes, but he let her read for a while longer. He was interested in knowing if he would have a standoff again.
Then the time limit ticked off. The test was given and the answers were given directly after they finished.
100 to 100. He earned another INT and WIS + 5
"Nnngh."
It was a stalemate. The girl seemingly not expecting to see this flinched.
The other match started again, like the other time he waited for her to finish, but sadly? She didn't succeed as well…
100 to 99. He earned a whopping 20 INT and WIS.
With all of the victories and draws he had, he earned a whole 90 INT and WIS. For a level one, this was a lot, a whole lot.
"Dear spectators! We have a winner!"
There was only one spectator, the old clerk!
He clapped as loudly as 100 could. Frankly, what kind of reward could make him so happy.
Quest Complete: Win the contests.
Earned 10 000 gold
The old clerk respects you enormously
Recor gets doubled in size.
Oh, so that's what it was. The old man went and told his many thanks to Myriad.
Afterwards, the young girl went to him with a smile.
"You're really good, too bad I couldn't get that spell, what level are you? You must at least be 200, right?"
He heard a strange voice.
[Sigh, this is why you never improve, take example from that boy, he's still level 1 but he's working so hard in his basic duties.]
"Eh, no way." with a shocked look on her face she turned to stare at the boy.
[I can't look at your race, class or reputation which is strange though… Anyway, you could make a great wizard in our country, want to join us?]
"My apologies but I need to do a quest in here but if I have another chance, I would join you."
"Oh, that's a shame, here take this and tell us if you'd like to join us. Don't hesitate!"
The girl went off running and gave him a sort of communicator.
"Congratulation!"
The man congratulated him, gave him the gold and a weird spell book.
"There is some spells in there that are rather interesting, you certainly won't be able to learn it now, but well, you can always try later right? Also, it's not every year that we give out that sort of book. Treasure it okay?"
He smiled at Myriad as he went off.
Myriad returned to the library and kept reading as the construction was going on. He could had went to him but he decided to level his INT by at least 20 before going. It took him four days. He had 215 INT and 226 WIS. He had learned Magic Mastery in the third day but he decided that since he went this way, he might as well take in the Magician's class.
He went in the same chamber and saw the same grumpy old man… That wasn't so grumpy. He already knew his presence from the moment he entered the entrance door. He encountered him with a smile.
"You're simply incredible, to earn such a amount of stats in such a short time… Why didn't you meet me directly after earning 80 INT?"
"Because I felt that I didn't earn it through reading only." This was what he replied to him.
The old man looked at him with his wide eyes open and then he laughed from the bottom of his heart.
"HAHAHAHAHA, OH BOY. FEN, FEN COME HERE AND LISTEN TO THIS!"
His laugh reached every corners of the building, Fen, the charismatic young man came in a sprint.
"What's wrong old man!?"
He had this bemused face, he never seen this man laugh so hard except when he was younger.
The Headmaster told him the story all the while smiling, all Fen could do was look at Myriad dumbfounded.
"Y-you really did that?"
He nodded.
"H-haha, from the first time I met you, I knew something special was going on… But to think that you would do that."
Then the Headmaster interrupted.
"You have finished the quest, you are granted the chance to be a magician."
Quest Complete: Earn 40 INT
Increase in relationship with the Headmaster
Granted the chance to become a magician
Will you become Magician?
Even if refused, Infinity will automatically absorb the class.
The negatives aspects are negated.
"I accept." He pretended to have accepted, better to hide the face that he had this strange class then to show it off.

New Skill: You have learned Meditation

"You will have to learn the other spells by books or by other means."
The old man said to him.
"Here are four basic spells we'll make you learn."
He gave him four books in which he immersed himself in reading immediately. This made the Headmaster remember of his past, he usually was always immersed in reading books, thus one of the reasons of his favouritism with this disciple. He soon finished, there was only 100 pages per books.

Basic Fire Spell

"Remember, you're always free to come back."
He gave his thanks and gave him back his stat device and his spell books.
