6 Spiritual Warfare: The Duties and Dangers of Exorcists

"What is a spirit? Does anyone want to give a definition?" Chen Ling asked.

"Generally, the term spirit refers to the non-physical part of a person or being that is often considered immortal or essential to their identity," Stefano D'Angelo said.

"Alright, does anyone want to add something?" Chen Ling asked.

"In his book 'Trip to the Other Side,' Franco Kazinskì describes spirits as eternal entities with evolutionary capabilities formed from infoenergetical light particles. Mr. Kazinskì also believes that a spirit is composed of consciousness, subconsciousness, a spiritual body, and, if they manage to incorporate it, even a soul," Yan explained.

"Alright. But if a spirit is formed from light particles, why do we deal with evil spirits? Why are there demons and entities in the underworld?" Chen Ling asked.

"Personally, I believe that Mr. Kazinskì is telling only part of the universal truth. In my opinion, from the moment it's born, even though not self-conscious, a spirit starts its evolutionary journey. With every choice it makes, the spirit chooses a side of the coin: light or darkness. I personally believe, even though I cannot provide strong evidence, that evil spirits and demonic entities also have a part of light inside them that keeps them alive. Unlike light spirits, evil entities cannot produce their own light to sustain their life. That is why they permanently seek to feed on the energy emitted by other entities. While some can feed directly from the life force of others, other evil entities can only feed on the negative energies emitted by others: pain, fear, negative thoughts," Yan said.

"This is quite the theory, Mr. Rain," Chen Ling praised. "But you said that evil entities feed on light because they cannot produce their own. So, are you insinuating that negative thoughts and emotions are also forms of light?" Chen Ling asked.

"Teacher Chen, we all know that light has many forms and represents movement. If I throw an egg at the wall, that produces a negative consequence. The motion itself is light because only light is moving energy; the egg remaining static on the wall is darkness because only darkness is static energy. The core of a thought or emotion is a form of light energy that can carry negative information. Due to the low vibrational field of an evil entity, it can only attract and consume something of a similar vibration. So when they feed on the energy emitted by others, that energy can only carry negative information," Yan explained.

"Good, you said almost everything right," Chen Ling said with a smile. "Now let me add something. Energy in itself is neutral; it existed from the beginning and will exist forever. By being neutral, this energy can become active, moving, which will produce a form of what we call light, or it can become static, which will produce a form of what we call darkness. To delve deeper into this matter, we must understand that neither light nor dark energies are particularly negative or positive. Light can carry negative information, while darkness in its stillness can produce positive benefits. When you sleep, you are in a static state, but it is beneficial. If you stay still in a bed for too long, it will become a negative activity, but an activity nonetheless."

"Then, is Teacher Chen saying that even static energy is moving?" Damian asked.

"Exactly. The principle of yin-yang tells us that when a structure is resting, the deeper structure is working, and vice versa. That is the law of this universe. Nothing is completely still or completely active because if they were, they would destroy themselves," Chen Ling explained.

"So, what do evil entities feed on? The light ones feed on light, but now the dark ones also feed on light?" asked a student.

"Our understanding of light and darkness is still shallow. But in essence, light is life, and everyone feeds on light. The difference is that a light spirit can produce light while an evil one can only consume it. Spirits themselves are all made of a form of light, there is no question about that. But that form of light is neutral, and it can be charged with positive or negative information, altering its vibration. After all, not all demons are evil. Some are not conscious of their actions. There have been cases when demons wanted to return to the light dimension but had no idea how. Like humans who are poor or sick, they stay in misery without knowing how to return to the light. There have been cases when exorcists opened the portal of light to the higher dimensions, and the battle demons left their armor, convictions, and negative imprints behind, transformed, and passed through the portal."

"How can that be? I thought demons are burned by light," Stefano said.

"I don't understand anything anymore," murmured another student.

"I understand why evil spirits feed on negative thoughts and emotions, but how can some of them feed on the soul? Isn't the soul positive light?" Klaus asked.

"For you to better understand, you will have to look at the soul as a life power that sustains everything. The spirit is the informational body giving the form, containing the conscious and subconscious, and also the life force, the soul. The soul is like a forever flowing river of energy that keeps every cell alive. Without the soul that is present everywhere, it is safe to say that everything will die and transform back into neutral energy. Personally, I think that everything we do requires soul consumption and that even thoughts and emotions carry a small fragment of it," Chen Ling paused.

"It is safe to assume that the soul is a neutral energy and that evil spirits feed on the soul fragments powering our thoughts and emotions. Even the SE (spiritual energy) we use contains fragments of the soul. Also, the life force can be replenished directly in sleep when our spirits leave the body to go home, or consciously when we assimilate SE through breathing or meditation. I am not sure, but what we use might not be SE. We could use a form of soul power, but until now, no studies have reached that conclusion," she said.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

"Teacher Chen, I was told that the physical body exists in the spiritual body. If that's the case and we assimilate SE, does that mean that the spiritual body can grow?" Klaus asked.

"Yes, our spiritual bodies experience changes in shape, color, size, and information. The spirit of an S Rank exorcist can be the size of a continent or even bigger. But because the spiritual bodies exist in a different dimension, they can only be seen by those who possess certain skills. An exorcist can see their own spiritual body through meditation, but you will learn that only in the central court of the academy," Chen Ling explained.

"Wow, just imagine a spirit the size of a continent. It could flatten an entire city with a single step," said a student.

"Teacher, does that mean that other, not so beautiful entities can also grow to that extent?" Stefano asked.

"Yes, definitely. That's why you have to improve yourselves continuously. One day, the fate of this planet might rest on your shoulders. And as things continue to rapidly change, we can't say for sure that our SSG Rank exorcists won't have to defend the rest of us from currently unknown entities hidden in this multidimensional universe," Chen Ling said.

"Alright, let's continue. There are many spiritual races in the universe, but today we will talk about the evil ones. What are the known main races?" Chen Ling asked.

Damian raised his hand.

"Demons, with their subraces, apparitions, specters, ghosts, common spirits, and phantoms," he said.

"Correct. And can you define their unique characteristics?" Chen Ling asked.

"Demons are the most evolved entities on the dark path. They are self-conscious to a certain extent and can do anything from pranks to possessions."

Chen Ling nodded.

"Apparitions are entities that can take a more physical form. They are unable to possess living beings, but their abilities can vary considerably."

"Specters are usually spirits that can possess people. They have a form similar to the upper body of a human, and their attack pattern usually involves biting or slashing with their claws."

"Ghosts are wandering spirits born from strong negative emotions like unfulfilled desires and carry a fragment of will from those emotions."

"Common spirit is a broadly used term that includes all known and unknown spiritual entities. Phantoms are spiritual entities born from thoughts. They can evolve and must constantly feed on negative energies. Their characteristics vary from phantom to phantom, depending on factors such as birth, place, origin, method of evolution, and food."

"Good, very good," Chen Ling praised. "Now, does anyone know how these entities can influence the lives of humans?"

"By possessing them."

"By depleting their energy."

"They can affect events and surroundings."

Chen Ling waited for more answers, and when no one replied, she explained.

"All the above and more. Evil entities can corrupt the minds of individuals, whether human, animal, or insect. They can create sickness by altering the vibrational level of a place or individual. You might not be aware of this, but if the vibrational level of a human is high enough, there is no sickness. Of course, karma plays a part in this, and even the energy of places can affect it. That’s why we always perform cleansing rituals, and many of our missions involve purifying places. By the way, do you know what karma is?" Chen Ling asked.

"Negative energy," replied a student.

"Karma is indeed a form of negative energy that connects all people and events happening in this universe. It exists at planetary, continental, country, ancestral, and individual levels. It creates negative entities that, fortunately for us, are unable to directly interact with us due to the natural barriers created at the beginning of the universe. Each of us is connected by threads to all the events and people we have harmed or wronged in this life and previous ones. If you ever reach the point where you can see your own strings, you will understand why you’re suffering and why understanding things is so hard," Chen Ling explained.

"Teacher Chen, have you managed to see yours?" Stefano asked, and everyone paid attention.

"Yes, and I can say that we all have strings that connect and bind us in all our seven chakras. Those experiencing mind fog, behavioral changes to negative patterns, lack of understanding, negative emotions, or lack of sexual energy can be affected by karma. And how does karma affect us?"

"When our vibrational level is low, or a part of the spiritual body shielding us is broken, an entity can attack us, feed from us, and poison us through the string of negative energy. That’s why we must purify ourselves and the things and places around us. That’s why we must pay attention to our thoughts and resolve our problems to cut our negative strings."

"Karma can be burned by light. Lighting candles is a practice that helps us, but the intention must be set for the light emitted by the candle. Everything that produces light, from prayers, good deeds, and beautiful thoughts and emotions, helps us liberate ourselves from our own cage. That’s what saints in the past did, but they didn’t have a true notion of what it means to be good. Sometimes, to protect yourself and the people around you, you must kill. Killing in this situation does not bring negative energy, karma upon the individual. The same goes for a life-and-death fight in which both parties have given their permission. By entering combat, you take the risk of losing your life, and no one is guilty if you die. There are many things to discuss, but we’ll have plenty of time for that. Questions?"

With that, the class erupted. All students wanted an answer, but the little time left wasn't enough to satisfy all. Yan remained silent, watching as his colleagues argued with each other for the right to ask.

He didn’t like that. In his eyes, knowledge was something everyone should have access to. Not a treasure worth fighting for, but a birthright.
